Obama Fatigue: Ripping Covers From Magazines

pew pollNewsweek sent me a free subscription to their magazine, one I’ve been trying to cancel for weeks now. Every time there is a picture of Obama on the front cover I rip it off, it never makes it to the house. The cover hits the trash can at the end of the dirt driveway. Nope won’t even allow it in the house. I would much rather burn it… When I’m not ripping off the front cover, I rip whole articles out of the magazine if it even mentions Obama. I am growing tired, the mention of his name puts me to sleep.

If tearing up magazines isn’t bad enough, I throw away the section of the newspaper he is mentioned in. Nope. I refuse to recycle it even. Newspaper is a commodity in this house, I need it for packing boxes. I won’t have it wrapping my fragile items. I really don’t want to open those boxes and see Obama’s face. Nope, can’t do it.

When the TV is on and I hear his name, I have to mute the sound. If the station, usually Fox insists on showing his face, I have to change channels. The repetition makes me want to take to my bed and sleep. Did I mention I am packing to move? I shut the TV down entirely. Did I mention I don’t watch CNN and MSNBC anymore, too much of him. Can’t do it and won’t do it.

My own personal boycott.

And now this. Ugh! The one thing I can say is I agree with all of it. He reminds me of Paris Hilton and all those other people who are famous for being famous.

Obama’s Celebrity Revisited is revealed to day in this article. People have this to say about Obama:

On the surface, the “celebrity” charge is a personal attack on Obama, coupling him with people universally recognized as being famous just for being famous. But there may be something more going on here. A new poll by the Pew Research Center showed that about half of respondents felt they had been hearing too much about Obama recently while about 38 percent said they had not heard enough about McCain.

And this from Salon.com, I’m so bored with O-B-A-M-A:

This may be about the most lopsided margin in winning the headline wars since James Monroe ran virtually unopposed in the 1820 election. But now, with voters suddenly curious about McCain (judging from the Pew numbers), Obama may be a victim of too much too soon. As singers and comedians have known since the early days of vaudeville, the cardinal rule in show business is to leave the stage with the audience wanting more.

I’m yawning now. And here’s hoping I can stay awake until November.

I’ll just cut out the Obama parts and keep the rest.

When I passed any magazine or book rack, and I see Obama, I turn the book/magazine around. I can’t tolerate seeing him or hearing him or hearing of him.

So you’re the one who’s been doing that. All this time I thought it was my sister doing it. By the way, keep up the good work.

everytime I see his picture in a Magizine I lose my lunch sometimes the magizine will have a picture of Michelle and Barack then I have to either turn the magizine around or rush by it. I feel that way when I see him anywhere near Hillary.

Hey, fellow Pumas….all the way up here in Toronto, Canada, and guess what? Every time there’s an Obamarama front cover, it goes to its rightful filing place: THE GARBAGE!
Everytime I see the Stuttering Fool’s pic, I turn magazine around and/or place at the end of the rack!
I’m now professional saboteur…not to mention that whenever there’s a pro-Obamarama paper column, I respond….

That’s so funny, I have been doing this for years. Whenever I’m in a store and see a book by someone like Ann Coulter, I always turn it around or put it behind another book. I have added Obama to my list of book “turn arounds” - or should I call them “flip-flops”? I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who does this - my kids think I’m crazy. I understand that my action won’t affect book sales, but at least I feel better - and if I can save 1 person from a kool-aid induced coma, so much the better!

Hey — that is exactly what I DO!! My husband hands me the mail and he knows what to expect. I don’t bother ripping the cover — I (with great ceremony) proceed to the garbage can and trash the whole issue.

I ALSO mute the TV or radio on any BO sound bites or interviews. I just can’t listen to him anymore, it upsets me too much.

I thought I was the only one doing that, every place I go and I see the One on the cover I turn it over. Hey, maybe we should pass this on as an effective, grass roots effort by anyone who doesn’t have the time to do anything else because we’re working 2 jobs. Only Hillary remains the most competent, effective leader to help the working classes. I pray BO is exposed and she wins the nomination.

Comment by elise | 2008-08-07 21:29:44

Here is a theory to cover that sort of thing. If they know there is bad press about BO, they immediately find a negative about someone else, McCain, Hillary or Bill, and focus on that to distract viewers from the problem BO has. The Obama’s camp has done that since the primaries began. Always blame Hillary for something you have done or will do. The media then presents it as fact, even if it is vague and unsubstatiated claim, his supporters will believe. That was then and this is now and hopefully everyone else is catching on.

Comment by bemused | 2008-08-07 22:15:09

Yes–distraction, deflection, and reflection are tools of the campaign in general and also BO’s equivocal and nebulous speeches. Notice how hard questions are always followed by “let me make that clear” (obfuscation) or “This is a distraction from the issues” (distraction from the question!), etc. All such attempts at evasion should be called for what they are.

Comment by Uppity Woman | 2008-08-08 02:28:40

I noticed that in the NYT reading the “What Hillary Wants” article. (Btw, the hatred still burns brightly.) McCain made a big to-do of immediately returning $50,000. No one had to point it out. His own people spotted it and thought there was something fishy. It didn’t take months with another $2500 being returned next month. And I am sure he’ll have receipts to show. The brothers in Gaza said they never got any money back. Who knows? Stupid MSM. They’re so obvious.

Obama has not returned the money. I am very certain of it!

It’s an amazing phenomenon. I’m the same way with the radio. If either of my local NPR stations starts playing his voice, I have to change channels immediately. I can honestly say I’ve never had this kind of reaction to a political candidate before. Even George W. Bush … well, eventually he affected me this way, but not before he even got nominated!

Comment by Faustina | 2008-08-07 20:48:19

I have the same reaction. It is almost pathological and reminds me of X-Files or the Twilight Zone.

faustina — I don’t look at Obama either but today I did and something has happened to his face. He looks like a punchdrunk fighter. His eyes are so swollen he can hardly open them and his skin looks ashy. If you just go by the way he looks — he is in deep chit and he knows it. Telling a 7 year old kid the country is failing–Obama has lost it.

Obama - He’s better than Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, and Jehovah.

This is the same type of religious imagery dictators use.

But let’s not talk about that.

If you cannot verify the Holy One’s birth certificate no problem.

There will be a title of the next Newsweek cover. Obama: Virgin Birth?

Comment by jackie | 2008-08-07 20:51:46

I thought I was the only one that had that reaction to him. I wonder if the Obama camp is regretting buying the 5 million dollar Olympic commercial deal. If people feel he’s so overexposed, how are they going to feel after seeing his political commercials for the next few weeks as they are trying to enjoy the Olympic games.

Comment by s. hall | 2008-08-07 21:48:04

Obama should have known that a huge ad buy isn’t going to fix whats broken with the presumptious nominee. He spent millions in Ohio and Pa and he lost in both places. The problem is Obama has too much money and not enough experience to be President. Axelrod decided to sell Obama’s personality instead of his stands on the issues. Big mistake. Almost 2 years later Obama is still clueless about the issues which effect our lives. Obama will lose and he will take the Democratic Party down with him –

Is Obama and the DNC leadership having a problem with the gay community? Anybody know about the following?

I read about a lawsuit filed by Donald Hitchcock, a former DNC Director for Gay & Lesbian Outreach. According to the article, talks broke down after an explosive altercation between Hitchcock’s attorney, Tara Jensen and DNC attorney Joe Young. According to reports, the DNC attorney allegedly lashed out at Jensen. (Reference below)

As outlined in a letter sent to the DNC by the Jensen, the following was alleged stated:

“At that point, you became physically intimidating, and moved quickly
toward me, within six inches of my face. In fact, you were so close that you
spit on my face. You then proceeded to point your finger at me, and in an angry,
raised voice yelled, “Don’t you ever contradict me,” and “Don’t you ever
interrupt me.” You also told me to “know my place.””

Note the alleged comment from the DNC Attorney telling the female to “know her place” and not to contract the male attorney.

Guess the “new” Democratic Party and Obama treat all women like second class citizens.

Can anybody give an update on this?

Comment by elise | 2008-08-07 21:43:23

Was it Bob Strum during the primaries who said Hillary reminds people of their mother-in-law? I watched FOX a little this PM and they had two different male supporters representing Obama who were asked about her being on the ballot and having a role call vote and they reminded me of men of my father’s generation who expected woman to remember their places while they laid down the law. Wasn’t it just last week Dean was saying, “of course there will be a roll call vote just like there has been since 1897″ and now Obama is saying it is being “worked out”?

Comment by s. hall | 2008-08-07 21:54:04

In fact, European news agencies were actually LAUGHING AT OUR U.S. MEDIA on Obamamia’s Rock Star Tour - and contrary to ANYTHING you heard in the U.S. Media, they were quite “tongue in cheek” about the U.S. public fawning over Obama and treating him like the second coming. Did our U.S. Media tell Americans that all of Obama’s speeches were preceeded by free food, beer and rock concerts? NO…NOT ONE…on the other hand, the European newspapers and media outlets DID inform their citizens. It’s the difference between a censored, propagandist U.S. Media and TRUTH.

I only watch the McGlaughlin Group now. And sometimes not even that. I won’t watch This Week until George bans Donna Brazile.

These people won’t get my viewership back either.

Well, after nearly 8 years of flipping the channel or muting the TV everytime Shrub’s face stinks up the screen, if BO wins, I’ll just continue to do the same.

Changing The Channel I Can Believe In…..Yes I Can!

So if we’re all boycotting the MSM, how come they’re not caving? I think we need to tell their advertisers we’re boycotting them. Maybe a full page ad someplace sucking up slightly less than the others? NYT and Daily News are out, as is the NY Post. How about the Boston Globe?

Maybe it’s because there are not that many of you.

I’m a DNC pledged delegate for Obama. Your recent PUMA PAC musings piqued my interest, if only because I do sort of have a metric on how big the PUMA people are as a movement. About a month ago I woke up and took a look at my e-mail and instead of seeing few new e-mails in the morning I saw more than three hundred.

PUMA released the e-mail addresses of the delegates to their supporters and asked them to e-mail us with a form letter. I’m sure you’ve seen the letter (if not, it’s pasted in below), but since I set up a filter to direct every e-mail with “PUMA” in it to a folder on my Outlook, I can tell you that about a month after their letter-writing campaign began (I don’t get many more these days), I received a total of 404 messages.

Given that their entire raison d’etre is getting delegates to vote otherwise, this makes me think the PUMA movement is actually quite small, even if it is quite good at getting press. PUMA will surely stage something at the convention, but if they can only get 404 people to send e-mails, I’m not sure how many they can get to fly to Denver and make an impressive scene.

The DNC is so scared, they needed to have a web chat today.

And their trolls are working double shifts!

…and it’s probably the female Obama supporters that have to work double shifts just so they can get the same pay as the male Obama supporters working single shifts.

And I bet the female Obama supporters have to make the food for the gatherings, clean up after the parties, and are told to never question the male trolls, to know their place and to never interrupt the male trolls.
