a quote from the article

“Leadership on these issues has been sorely lacking these past eight years. In the 1990s,
under Bill Clinton’s leadership, employment and incomes grew and we built up a budget
surplus. However, our current President pursued misguided policies, missed
opportunities, and maintained a rigid, ideological adherence to discredited ideas. Our
surplus is now a deficit, and almost a decade into this century, we still have no coherent
national strategy to compete in a global economy. The price tag for these failures is being
passed on to our families.”

did you see the section on Africa? Supporting Democracy in Africa. We are in effect going to be going to Africa under the same premise we went into the middle east. This is the AA version of Bush.

Comment by David A., Is That You Trolling? | 2008-08-07 15:01:22

Agree. Several of Obama’s 300 foreign advisors made points of saying America was too soft on Africa and needed to do more.

Obama intends to take our troops out of the Middle East and put them into Africa.

Obama not agreeing to place Clinton name in nomination

Flying home to Chicago, Obama told reporters on his campaign plane that he talked separately this week to Clinton and her husband, the former president, and that they were enthusiastic about having a smooth convention at the end of the month in Denver.

“As is true in all conventions, we’re still working out the mechanics, the coordination,” Obama said. One such issue is whether there will be a convention roll call on Clinton’s nomination, he said.

“I’m letting our respective teams work out details,” he said. Asked if that meant he wouldn’t object to her name being placed in nomination and a vote taken, Obama said: “I didn’t say that. I said that they’re working it out.”

sounds like B.O. is more intent on setting off fireworks than having a peaceful convention.

Comment by pew | 2008-08-07 14:41:57

I disagree,I really don’t like the guy,or what he stands for,but I really believe,he won’t put Clinton’s name into the nomination, because,he wants to be nominated firstly, and than hand it over to Clinton..He would be put in the record books,as being the first black nominee, that turned it over to someone else..imo…I really believe he wants to take credit, and show a good side of Obama, that no one has seen to date..

I think Clinton will be the nominee at convention.

Remember Pelosi said there would be a couple of surprises at the convention, and everyone would be unified in November…

1st — Surprise- Obama will hand reins to Clinton.

2nd –Surprise— I think Bill Clinton will speak.

This is all my own opinion,,, I’m sure I’ll be knocked down…

Comment by britgirls | 2008-08-07 14:49:08

What are you on? Wow! Read up on what he did to Alice Palmer in ‘96? Same tactic … knock all your opponents off the ballot and run uncontested.

Denver is simply the venue for us all to watch the tiara being placed on Princess Obama’s head!

Okay, I’m a liberal, I’m a lifelong Democrat (at least until recently). I believe in investing in America and Americans. Some people even accuse me of being a socialist. But holy crap! This Dem platform is flippin creepy. They got the government deeply involved in your life from the cradle to the grave. Early childhood education from the age of zero? Zero? Can’t we learn to sit up first? Employer provided savings accounts? If we have enough money to save, aren’t we all smart enough to go get our own account? And as an employer, do I really have to jump thru yet another hoop and manage all my employee’s savings accounts? I’m tired just thinking about it.

Comment by The Real Hope | 2008-08-07 14:25:21

Yes K Street will love this. See how Obama is a closet fascist? And why so many Republicans giving this creep money?

He’s selling us out PERIOD!

Comment by Kal | 2008-08-07 15:05:54

You do realize that these ’savings accounts’ of various kinds are really just a mechanism for implementing consumption-based taxation, right?

Income taxes are imposed at graduated rates to ensure potential progressive allocation of the tax burden.

When consumption taxes replace income taxes, as they will gradually with Obama and his rightwing tax policy friends, income will be tax exempt, and only consumption (consumer) spending will be taxed — at flat rates like the European VAT taxes, which run as high as 19% on all purchases.

These consumption tax rates are highly regressive.

They also autonomically exempt any money saved and not spend on consumption items from consumption taxes.

Therefore consumption taxes sit much more heavily on those with low or mid incomes and most lightly on the rich.

That’s the real problem with the Dem platform — its now a Repub platform!!

This is quite a chunk to digest, but I was thinking: Why are opportunities for women under poverty directly below Family and Work in Section I?

Why is the American Community section not in the beginning?

Just a few questions.

Comment by Kal | 2008-08-07 15:09:16

Because women only exist in the Obama policy universe as mothers and wives, that’s why.

And also because the Obama vision of helping women gain ‘equality’ is enabling them to be able to ‘choose’ between working for pay or staying at home to care for children, elders, husbands, real estate, cars, furniture, pets, clothes, food….

Notice that no one talks about how much money hubby has to make before a woman might be in a position to make that ‘choice’ — or about how working for pay is coming under increasing attack from left right and center.

Comment by hank48188 | 2008-08-07 16:16:00

Obama spent his formative years in Indonesia, a Muslim country. What he saw there is embedded in his brain, that is how learning takes place. He saw that women were second-class and submissive to men, and for the rest of your life that is normal.

Comment by The Real Hope | 2008-08-07 14:17:29

This platform is not well organized from what I can tell so far. They’ve got some priorities out of sync IMHO. Also I think “Education” should have its own category. I don’t like where women have been placed in this either. How did we get below Poverty? LOL

Comment by AF catfish | 2008-08-07 21:38:00

Because John Edwards championed poverty, and Hillary Clinton championed women and children. They had to put Hillary “in her place”, below John Edwards, so Women were placed below Poverty.

The NYT covers a black woman running for congress who claims her white liberal democratic opponent is racist. She ran a commercial equating Congressman Steve Cohen with the Ku Klux Klan.
I’d love to give you the link, but it isn’t possible here.

“opportunities for women” What the hell does this mean? Give them a boost, but not equality with men. We still have to sit at the back of the bus, but they will let us ride on it.

I hate to be a naysayer, but the I Own My Vote survey (I did fill it out) is going to be thrown in the trash by the Democratic Party, along with LGBTs, Jews, working class whites, etc. Get it straight…the party doesn’t want us. The party says they don’t need us. They can go to hell as far as I’m concerned. Hope their messiah keeps them warm at night.

Comment by Linda C. | 2008-08-07 17:20:53

LGBT rights is in a little sentence tucked away.

The platform format is very disorganized at this point.

We do have to do something with the pension system, but I am not sure I have the answer either. The outline is vague. It almost sounds like a variation of the federal system.

Still not sure about this “civilian defense force”.

Neither the survey or these individuals will be ignored. Obviously Obama has the greatest control over the platform committee and his campaign will push back against all of these platform points. This will not be an effortless project.

We can realistically force these issues to be discussed amongst the committee and can make sure all of these are offered as ammendments in Pittsburgh. If we all work together to get a total of 38 committee members to back each platform amendment we will be able to get a minority report written and the amendments will have to go to the full convention floor for a full discussion in front of the national media.

This is a home run. It’s easy to fight to preserve caucuses that benefit party insiders but disenfranchise the vote of many registered Democrats at an off year DNC meeting that gets scant media coverage. I really want to see the Iowa Chair talk about how a contest that most elderly voters in rural areas are not able to participate in, that considers 5% voter turnout a great year and allows independents to vote in BOTH the Democratic and Republican primaries in the same year, is really the most Democratic way for them to run their primary.

Send the link to the survey to everyone you know. Call platform committee members and urge them to support these planks and sign a minority report if the full committee doesn’t adopt them.

Here is a copy of a commenter’s reply to an article on Savage Politics:

Captain Roulstone,

I hope that you will catch this post - I thank you for your kind reply to me above.

I feel this is a gigantic story that the media will not cover, that Bill Clinton recently ‘alluded’ to, and that Hillary supposedly talked about to Super Delegates on the phone as early as April or May -

Barrack Obama’s Birth Certificate IS A FORGERY. Apparently they have found his sister’s name on the document after analyzing it thoroughly.

http://noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/08/05/breaking-sister-mayas-name-uncovered-on-phony-obama-birth-certificate/

Now - I see a series of unnecessary movements by his campaign (Obama’s) over the last 4 months or so. Now that we are blessed to have you here and thus a stronger link to the good Senator, I would respectfully request that you read the story and consider whether this would be something that the Senator’s campaign would like to validate.

Obama’s campaign, as I am certain you know, has done some very peculiar things in regards to his past. The msm is complicit as well by not following leads and killing stories that might air.

Obama’s campaign Foreign Policy advisor was the CEO of a company who’s employees broke into Barack’s passport records - or those of his mother. Of course if you toss in the Senators from NY and AZ - it looks like an act of someone interested in ALL the candidates, rather than someone trying to, perhaps, ‘fix a problem’ for one candidate in particular.

Add this to the unnecessary legislation that was put forward ‘clearing’ Senator McCain to run for office - when no such ‘clearance’ was needed. Sounds to me like a preempitve strike so that they can demand equal treatment should someone ELSE require ‘exceptions’ to the rules. Of course, again, Senator McCain required no such ‘permissions’ and to me, with Claire McCaskill heading the push - there is al ulterior motive here - and it is not judiciousness or magnanimous behavior. I believe that if Obama’s records prove he was not born in the U.S. - they will use this ‘permission’ given to McCain as a RACE ISSUE - infuriating the AA community into outrage that McCain was given a pass for not being born in the U.S. directly - so why not Barack. It just stinks to high heaven.

Then you have the birth certificate issue. First he wouldn’t or couldn’t come up with one. Then he started equivocating over it - then he issued on his website the certificate that now has been proven to be false. What on earth would the motivation be to substitute and manipulate your sister’s birth certificate to pass off as your own? If there is not an issue why toss up details about time spent in Kenya? Barack tells us his mother spent 72 hours immediately prior to his birth, in Kenya, and then returned to have him.

Now I have done reasearch and am a bit of an aviation buff. I went back to see just what aircraft were available and when, in order to fly someone to Kenya, in 1961, and then back again within 3 days. Not even going over the fact that today and even MORE SO in the past - a 9 months pregnant woman would almost certainly be denied the ability to fly, especially a long flight, probably originating in Seattle (as the hints and records seem to imply), over the Pacific Ocean.

The DC8 or Boeing 707 was operational for its first flights in late 1958. Few companies flew the 4 engine jet through 1959 - and only the most profitable, highly travelled routes would be using this ULTRA expensive aircraft. No routes to any African country were considered high-traffic routes, with only a London - Johannesburg route being a moderate traffic route.

The flight WITH the jet would have taken, from Seattle, approximately 24 hours to complete, with refueling and passenger changes. But what is more likely is that Obama’s mother would have taken a 4 engine propeller plane - like the Pan Am Super Constellation - overseas - requiring as much as 32 hours to complete with stopovers, refueling, and passenger changes.

There is NO WAY A.) that she was allowed to fly at her stage of pregnancy, and B.) that she flew to Kenya, stayed about 6 hours, and then hopped on the plane back to Seattle, and then gave birth.

There is a reason for all of this - and for the MSM not even to look into it is a serious, and to me deliberate, oversight.

I appreciate any response you might have and forgive me for the length of my thoughts. I just believe there is a HUGE story here - Bill Clinton doesn’t just drop Bon Mots for nothing. There is meat here, there is motivation here, and there is fraud here. What it ultimately proves to be, I am not certain, but someone in the McCain campaign needs to start digging and start digging deeply - and fast.

Thank you sir, an honor to have your ‘ear’
