Hillary Backers Want Convention Vote

Brenda Krause is tired of fearmongering among the Democrats. She said this about unity in the party:

“I’m not going to be coerced into something I don’t believe in,” said Krause, who lives in Colorado Springs and owns a real estate office. “That makes me less unified. If they let me have my voice, I’ll feel more unified.”

This is an overwhelming feeling among delegates and supporters all around the country. In Houston last night an Obama supporter, Democratic Party delegate for Obama, Roger Harris spoke about the “the silent message”, the e-mails he has received from PUMAs “wanting delegates to back Hillary Clinton”. He talked about the numbers of e-mails he received in one day.

“The first round I got 99 (e-mails). The second round I got 50 and the next round I got 60. All in the same day,” said Harris, who will be an Obama delegate to the party’s national convention.

PUMAPAC had this to say:

The group told 11 News that it’s also urging Clinton to challenge Obama to a vote at the convention.

A vote the political group said would heal the party, not divide it.

“You can’t achieve unity by telling one side to shut up,” the PAC said in a statement to 11 News. “You have to let the delegates vote for their candidate on the first ballot.

“The fact is, (the party is) extremely split.”

And Clinton supporters across the country want that vote.

Though the majority of the Democratic Party backs Sen. Barack Obama, an undercurrent of staunch and loyal Clinton supporters say they’ll fight all the way to the national convention, which begins Aug. 25 in Denver, to put her name on the ballot.

And it is about the rules of an open convention. It is about the party and basic principles.

Because they were chosen by her supporters in districts across the country, many say they won’t feel that they have fulfilled their duty until they cast a vote for her — however futile that might be.

“I will come on board the unity train with a first-class ticket if, before doing so, I get the opportunity to vote for my candidate,” said Daniel Kagan, a property developer and lawyer from Arapahoe County. “On Aug. 28, when Obama accepts the nomination, I will be there cheering along with the rest of them, but only if I have had the chance to vote first.”

Kagan is among a small group of people working to garner 300 signatures from national delegates to complete DNC rule requirements to put Clinton’s name back on the ballot. Even if they get enough signatures, Clinton must agree to have her name placed on the ballot.

Dean says the decision belongs to Hillary. And there is more on that.

Asked whether Clinton’s name would be on the ballot, Democratic National Convention Committee spokeswoman Natalie Wyeth said that DNC chairman Howard Dean “has said that’s up to her, whether she will put her name in nomination.”

Clinton has said in YouTube postings and in a Web chat Thursday that she is working with the Democratic National Committee and the Obama campaign to find a solution.

Texas delegate Linda Figueroa, a 53-year-old paralegal from Corpus Christi, said the pledged Clinton supporters were told in a delegate conference call this week that they would not get to vote for her. Figueroa said the senator’s scheduled speech on the floor of the Pepsi Center on Tuesday evening, Aug. 26, was “not enough.”

So many others are speaking out including a “300″ petition to get Hillary’s name placed in nomination.

In an attempt to inspire the masses, Kagan, a delegate from Colorado’s 1st Congressional District, borrowed from French philosopher Voltaire.

“I don’t agree with the way you intend to vote, but I’ll fight to the death for your right to vote,” he said.

Others, like Will Bower, a founder of Project Unity My A–, or PUMA, are not ready to support Obama.

“Most of us are still working toward getting Hillary the nomination,” he said. “We still see a path for victory in Denver.”

There will be an Anti-”coronation” protest according to Simone DuBois. More on Simone Dubois and her group:

At the convention, vociferous Clinton supporters will protest and hold signs that will read “Denounce Nobama’s Coronation.”

Former Colorado Senator Gary Hart had to throw in his two cents too, which weren’t needed:

Allowing delegates to vote for their chosen candidate gives them an opportunity to celebrate that candidate and their work on the campaign, said former Colorado Sen. Gary Hart, who ran for president in 1984 and 1988.

At the convention in 1984, Hart said, each of his 1,200 delegates voted for him “with no defections.”

“My people put on a massive demonstration. It went on for 10 or 15 minutes,” Hart said. “They felt very good about it afterward.”

Hart thinks Clinton, a longtime party loyalist, will want to prevent protests and help Obama get elected.

But still many Clinton supporters feel Obama has not done enough to offer peace in the party. He was dismissive of Hillary and her supporters during the primaries. And one Colorado resident spoke out on that. Her words echo a sentiment in many Hillary supporters.

Awilda Marquez, a Colorado delegate, said she feels like his campaign has been dismissive of Clinton supporters.

“They say they don’t need us. . . . I don’t spend 30 seconds a day thinking about that,” Marquez said. “When I see a top woman being called a whore and a she-goat, . . . I can’t forget that.”

Why is there even a question about a woman who did more for her party and got more votes being on the rollcall?
These liliputins are a disgrace and not what the Democratic party was all about.

The only way I’m voting for a Democrat this fall, after a long lifetime as a loyal D, is if Hillary, or a Player Other Than Obama, is our party nominee.

If Obama’s name is on the ballot, I’ll not be voting for him. I just do NOT like the guy. It’s not just the being a crook and hanging around with sleazy people… it’s not just the hubris and the snotty manner… it’s not just the inexperience…. it’s not just the unwillingness to answer any questions, and the huffiness when anyone DARES to ask…. it’s not just the grating, hectoring, nannyish voice….but it is ALL OF THAT, and then some.

He’s like chalk screeching on a blackboard. He’s a lousy pick. And isn’t it a crying shame that he’s “ethnic”–that way it’s so easy to play that stupid race card, while no one looks at, or ADMITS, his shortage of demonstrated ability.

Feh.

Comment by Obama is a bum | 2008-08-09 07:33:15

If Obama is on the ticket I will vote straight Republican. I will consider a Democrat only if they come out and denounce Obama. As bad as Obama is, those Democrats who have less than 30% black voters probably do not want Obama campaigning on their behalf.

Comment by Christy | 2008-08-09 06:54:37

BO, Pelosi and Dean have said all along they expect everyone to just “get over it.”

BO is a lying, racist, unqualified creep. How can ANYONE vote for him, he hates America for god’s sake.

How can we have a president who would side with other countries that America is a greedy, corrupt nation? Because that is what he thinks. He thinks other countries are soooo perfect. He thinks we need to be more respectful of other countries’ cultures, like honor killings and clitorectomies. He thinks we should be more like them, Americans are just such “an embarrassment.”

BO is a nightmare. So is McCain, but I will take the sane McCain over the insane BO any day.

Comment by Christy | 2008-08-09 07:02:37

LOL Clinton fan, BO truly DOES have a seriously obnoxious voice. He clips his sentences at the end in a strange withering way. He talks down to everybody in a preachy style. His sentences reach a crescendo midpoint EVERY time, then falter to an abrupt clipped halt. It’s BIZARRE.

Who started this crazy hype that BO was a gifted orator??? Because EVERYONE I have spoken with thinks he has an annoying way of speaking. I am not seeing ANY of the supposed charisma here.

Comment by democracyfirst | 2008-08-09 07:18:10

I agree completely. I have always found his speaking style grating and what he has to say worthless and often insulting.

I guess one has to be vulnerable to cult culture (drink the koolade) to think he is a great orator.

Comment by Obama is a bum | 2008-08-09 07:43:39

You pose a good question. Somebody came out and said Obama is a great speaker and is charismatic. I never saw that — ever. My assessment is he is a less than average speaker without charisma. When he speaks he holds his fingers together and shakes his fist up and down, it reminds me of a baby shaking a rattle.

Can someone point me to a list of other conventions where there was a full roll-call or vote? Ted Kennedy, Gary Hart… it doesn’t make sense that Hillary be told to “Sit. Sit, girl. Sit!”

Comment by fif | 2008-08-09 09:17:00

I hope that any Clinton supporters that are interviewed emphasize the history of the Convention, and that FDR was nominated on the FOURTH ballot. I have never heard anyone mention that Kennedy went to the Convention against Carter down 700+ delegates. The average voter has no idea how the system works. It was designed BY THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. Now, for Barky, they want to change it so he’s not embarrassed?!

Comment by Five Thirty | 2008-08-09 10:11:26

it doesn’t make sense that Hillary be told to “Sit. Sit, girl. Sit!”

You’ll recall that Sen. Clinton was also repeatedly told by party senior members to drop out of the primary race. I’m glad to see that people are putting up a fight so that the convention is not a complete sham, but the process has been so shockingly flawed and rigged that I don’t consider it legitimate and will vote against the party in November.

Barky NObama is taking the convention floor vote- one of our nation’s hallmark institutions, the process by which we self govern- and turning it into a stage crafted, media blitz, freakin’ circus with a celebrity clown. All Americans should be outraged. The gall! Democracy in the USA is our right, it is not negotiated.

Comment by csuzeq | 2008-08-09 12:27:31

Have you heard the MSM, including FOX ;-( keep saying the Clinton’s are trying to hijack Obama’s convention???? Everytime I hear that I scream, “It’s the democratic party’s convention you shitheads! It is not Barky’s possesion.” I hate that freak piece of shit. There is no way I’ll vote for him, even if Clinton is VP, which some MSM is reporting that is why Bill is speaking Wednesday and will introduce the VP who they assume that means it will be Hillary! I pray not!

I was called for a poll survey yesterday and they actually asked if Clinton was the nominee would I vote for her and I said yes I would. On every other question about POTUS I answered McCain. There were alot of questions about if religion mattered or if race mattered to which I said it doesn’t matter if you trust the candidate. What made me freak out is that they asked if I would vote for Barky if Clinton is VP and I said no, but they also asked me about my Governor as McCain’s VP (he is in the running) and since it was only those 2 as VP choices, it made me nervous! Please do not let it be Hillary. She is way smarter than that and I will have to vote against her and it will kill me to do that, but I’ll have to.

Comment by csuzeq | 2008-08-09 12:29:23

I must add that the pollster kept sighing at my negative comments about Barky so either he is a supporter or he is getting alot of the same responses or both.

Comment by DeniseB | 2008-08-09 13:48:17

Yes, most of the country seems to believe Hillary’s supporters want some kind of special treatment that no “loser” has ever gotten: they seem to think the “presumptive” nominee gets to run the convention, make the rules and get nominated unanimously. If they’ve forgotten all our prior conventions, or if they’re not old enough to remember, why aren’t the media pointing out that this is NOT the way things have been done?

I read a very depressing blog yesterday at the NY Times where one person after another was complaining that the Clintons haven’t done what’s expected of them, namely to slink off in disgrace and never be seen or heard from again. They really feel this is what they’re supposed to do, and that since they’ve refused to do it they deserve to have loathing, insults and ridicule heaped on them.

I’m at a loss to understand how this happened. Did Obama really engineer this? Is he really so disgusting a human being?

Anyway, do we have a historian here? I’d like to know any candidate in the past was expected to give up his delegates before the first ballot. Or whether the “presumptive” nominee has ever been able to have total control over who gets to speak, or the party platform. Are there precedents for this?

I’ve always been an independent and if Obama gets elected then for the first time in my adult lifetime I will probably join a party and it won’t be the Democrats. After what has gone down with the Democrats pushing Clinton out and rallying behind a jerk like Obama I am throughly disgusted. I felt Obama should have had the integrity to drop out after the Wright tapes came out.

John Edwards has finally told the truth! He cheated! Now it is Obama’s turn to tell the truth about Larry Sinclair! Help us to fight for the truth!

When they tried to silence Larry Sinclair, they tried to silence all
of us.

First came the personal attacks, attempts at discrediting Larry Sinclair and those following his story.

Next came attacks on Sinclair’s family.

Next came multiple death threats made on Sinclair.

Next came a petition encouraged by Jane Hamsher, an Obama supporter,
with ties to David Axelrod and the Obama Campaign, to block
Larry Sinclair’s news conference.

Next came Larry Sinclair’s arrest after his news conference at
the National Press Club. A DC warrant was fabricated for the arrest.

Next came more lies, smears and discreditation attempts by Jane
Hamsher and others aligned with the Obama Campaign.

From the beginning, the press, the MSM, has failed to do their job.
There is enough information, facts, about Obama, to cause any
intelligent, inquisitive news organization to dig beneath the
surface and discern the truth about the Larry Sinclair Story.

“To be honest with you, its not so much whether you believe me or not, as much as you hear me.”

-Larry Sinclair

I didn’t know that, what a sham the press is now. That should be a red light to every american that you can not rely on the press to give you the whole story.

Isn’t it kind of fascinating that Edwards used the term narcissistic to describe himself.

Comment by Ani | 2008-08-09 12:57:57

That is not surprising.

Comment by meileen | 2008-08-09 14:22:00

I found that interesting, too. Made my paranoid button go off. I felt like it was a dig against Obama and all of his egomaniacal ways. Then I reckoned, “Why? Why would Edwards poke him in the eye?” Could it be because Obama’s Axelrove had a hand in outing Edwards’ affair? Hmmmm.

Comment by CheatedFLVoter | 2008-08-09 15:55:14

I’m even more paranoid. It popped into my mind that obama probably planted the woman to seduce Edwards, so he could blackmail one of his opponents. One account said that this was leaked out a long while back and it just now got legs when they caught him with her. He does seem to go out of his way to remove his competition.

This is going to come down to Hillary. If she won’t put her name in nomination, there won’t be a vote for her.

I have been behind her all the way, even when I have been disappointed that she is playing along for the good of the party. I figure she knows what she is doing and the convention played into it.

But she has to take a stand now. Millions have been doing all they can to get her name in nomination. The DNC has been sufficiently notified of the consequences if they don’t put her name in nomination. They have chosen the sleazy approach of leaving it up to Hillary, while continuing to threaten her behind the scenes.

Hillary has to take the last step. It’s the hardest decision she has had to make but she has to make it.

Ain’t it the truth?

Had a debate with three of my family members last night (one who drank the Kool-Aid back in January, the other two drank it recently) about that slimeball Obama. They get almost 100% of their news from the scummy MSM. Been trying to explain to them the truths about Obama’s political flip-flopping tendencies and his crooked past in Chicago. How the MSM isn’t reporting the whole truth about Obama. They’re not listening - so far. It’s disturbing.

Shouldn’t the fact that the MSM - BIG BUSINESS MSM - have been kissing Obama’s ass since January send up huge RED FLAGS in the minds of any of the average, everyday Obama supporters?? At all???

Wexler is my Congressman, District 19. I am working to defeat him by supporting Dr. Ben Graber, a local Dem. who is running as an Independent. Go to: graberforcongress.com and help us get rid of Wexler.
The DNC is strong-arming any candidate who doesn’t support Obama. Denying them money or threatening to put up an opposition candidate in local primary runoffs. Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, a dedicated Clinton supporter, has been effectively silenced by these threats. She is a terrific Congresswoman-principled, dedicated, hardworking, & outspoken. Reminds me of Sen. Clinton. Support her re-election to Congress.

A democratic vote in the Democratic Party? How daring, how dangerous, how damaging!

Obama would prefer the Chinese Way: Everybody is allowd to vote for him.

it is becoming crystal clear that there was a conspiracy right from the beginning to deny Clinton the nomination by a concerted effort by Dean and Pelosi through a systematic web-based DNC driven JOHN EDWARDS?BARACK OBAMA for PREZ/VP TICKET in whichever order ,Obama or Edwards, it did not matter. The Objective was to deny Clinton the nomination at all cost and by any means nessesary! The question that DEMANDS INVESTIGATION! is : when and what did Dean and obama know about Edwards’s philandering scandal. Was it BEFORE IOWA?!?! If they knew. before Iowa, then it is clear that Edwards was a shill /straw- candidate used only and specifically to draw voters from H. Clinton and to Advance Obama’s Candidacy. The key questions are ;What did the Obama campaign promise (or extort with knowledge of this) Edwards for his “endorsement” after Obama’s embarrassing 66%to 27% loss to H. clinton in the W. Va. primary? Whom in the edwards campaign had knowledge of his affair/ Who were the the contact people between the Edwards and Obama camps? /was Dean kept apprised of the negotiations/affair?Whom from the Edwards campaign are now working for the Obama campaign and were/are the y involved in this conspiracy/coverup/ extortion deal making between the 2 camps/what were the sources of the funds directed to this coverup? EG: expensive hotels/ apartments/ documentary budgets/limousines/ unregistered cell phones/ and other ameneties provided to Edwards paramour/mistress (mother of his love child?) what local/ state/ federal laws have been violated(as well as the public trust}!!! Who else was paid to keep quiet? How much? did the obama campaign pay for any of this with the possible ruse of “retiring some of edwards’s campaign debt”? Was anyone threatened? This story DEMANDS A FULL BLOWN FEDERAL INVESTIGATION OF POSSIBLE VIOLATIONS OF RICO ACT/ ONGOING CRIMINAL OPERATIONS/ CAMPAIGN FINANCE VIOLATIONS AND INTERSTATE FRAUD STATUTES! THERE ARE MANY. MANY MORE QUESTIONS THAT ARE TOO MANY TO LIST HERE , HOWEVER, THE HAVE TO BE ASKED NOW!!! HILLARY CLINTON HAS BEEN DEFRAUDED OUT OT THE NOMINATION!

Yes! Yes All of this primary STINKS of wrong doing.
The truth will find its way out eventually but do we have any honest reporters anymore that can’t be bought or don’t have to sign loyalty oaths to MSM backed corporations? Of course it will probably to late to upright the sinking of democracy and the democratic party. The republican party sunk with Bush. McCain might bring some integrity back for the repubs. But who will save the Dem Party?

But who will save the Dem Party?

I don’t know if it can still be saved. But if HRC and Big Dawg came out with everything they’ve got it would be a start.

They both know where the bodies are buried and I would love to see them come out..

“Well let me tell you about………”

They could truly take over the party and make it great, but I swear if they allow this all to go unpunished and sit by and watch Barky win for party loyalty, I will not be able to trust Hillary in the future! I can’t see her sitting back just watching because she’s an action gal, but wtf is going on here?????

this stuff started coming out of the Enquirer in December. You’d think the DNC would have had Enquiring minds back then and discussed it with Edwards.

I just learned last night that our Hill got the nod last night. Pastor Manning will be discussing today what that means now. I repeat, Hill got the nod 2 days ago. That’s what is going on with the convention. What now?

Comment by roseeriter | 2008-08-09 08:20:25

What do you mean by ‘got the nod’?

Comment by Tucson Transplant | 2008-08-09 08:21:38

What do you mean by “got the nod”? From whom? As far as what?

Comment by Lou | 2008-08-09 08:24:31

Our Brilliant Hill got the nod to be VP.

Comment by democracyfirst | 2008-08-09 08:30:23

I sure hope not. And if she did, I hope she turned it down. It would not be good for her to be on a losing ticket.

I have been afraid that Bill getting the speaking slot right before the VP nominee meant Hillary will be on the ticket with Obama. I hope the info you got is wrong but the signs are pointing that way.

Comment by Lou | 2008-08-09 08:38:14

You are right. Bill is in on it. This is what they meant by surprise at the convention. Thought I’d spill the beans so that everyone can have time to catch their breath.

Comment by masslib | 2008-08-09 08:55:51

And where are you getting this?

Comment by roseeriter | 2008-08-09 09:16:23

His dream was about Hillary being chosen to be president by the higher power. lol

Comment by Lou | 2008-08-09 09:16:53

But it would be good for everybody if she were picked for VP and Obama is shot down. I’m just glad I’m not a politician. Imagine, they are living in all these head games and we’re only watching.

Comment by bemused | 2008-08-09 09:02:09

OOPS!! I don’t mean literally shot down! I meant, removed from consideration!

Comment by Smells like McGovern | 2008-08-09 09:14:07

we know, it’s just that I don’t know if being VP is what Hillary had in mind. She ran for POTUS, not Head Seatwarmer.
