Platform Committee on C-Span 1 Live [UPDATE: Proud Military Mom Calls Me]

Deval Patrick is speaking now. The meeting is moving along. STAY TUNED FOR OUR AMENDMENTS TO BE INTRODUCED. (Not all were subitted by 5 p.m. Friday, as required, but many of the most important did. But I can’t say too much at the moment. Watch for more news on the amendments that YOU voted on.)

WATCH FOR THIS, I am told: Howard Dean apparently wants this to be a mere “show,” but we want to make sure that every amendment gets its opportunity. (This is no longer a worry, I am further told.)

UPDATES: Proud Military Mom tells me that when Howard Dean spoke, he received no applause EXCEPT when he mentioned 1) women’s rights and fairness, and 2) Hillary Clinton.

Proud Military Mom (hereafter PMM) just called me. She reports that the appause seems overwhelmingly pro-Hillary, even among the members of the Platform Committee. She is with a great contingent, and another Hillary group held a rally outside and is sending me photos ASAP. STAY TUNED for more reports.

PMM also told me that OUR amendments will get a fair hearing. That was made clear at the top of the meeting, which is ongoing live on C-Span1. One more story I’ll add in a minute from PMM …

PMM also told me that when New Mexico attorney general Patricia Madrid mentioned that in New Mexico, most residents are able to speak TWO languages, the entire place erupted in laughter and applause. PMM interpreted it as a slight dig at Obama’s remarks recently about Americans not being to speak other languages.

They are pulling the Republican ploy of 2000. If anyone knows how to beat Obama at it, it’s the Republicans. They will be out in full force.

We may end up with no valid votes on either side in the 2008 GE.

Is that Eagle with big “O” a new symbol for the Obamanation?

If he wins the election, will this replace the Bald Eagle on all Govt. related signs?

The more they come out with their customized, marketed, 1984ish stuff, the more I run to vote for McCain - of course if Hillary does not pull a Hail Mary at the convention.

but what is going on that I got posted under your name, before I was finished with my comment?

WTF?

Comment by Uppity Woman | 2008-08-09 15:45:55

Papoose, could you elaborate on what you mean by fox ‘called out’ PUMA?

Comment by Papoose | 2008-08-09 16:47:30

Yes, At the time I was catching up here, there was a Fox segment with Curtis Sliwa, the founder of the inner city crime fighting Guardian Angels. They were discussing Obama and when Sliwa had a chance to speak he got all animated said that there is one faction nobody is considering and that it is going to make a major difference — And that’s Puma, P-U-M-A — Party Unity My Ass!!!! and then went off like you would not believe, about us. I was screaming! Looking at him in his beret! He was wild.

The person who I thought was going to provide the opposing view agreed with him.

I’ll try to see if I can find it.

Comment by debbie | 2008-08-09 18:51:46

Sliwa is a conservative Republican who guest hosts for Sean Hannity. Thus it’s hardly a surprise that he would praise a group that helps the Republican party.

Comment by roseeriter | 2008-08-09 09:26:14

I believe there are some PUMAS there.

It certainly is not a pep rally, at least yet.

Good to see ERA and Title Nine mentioned in the plank.

Comment by SusanUnPC | 2008-08-09 10:10:10

That is sad though. It goes to show why physicians regard pneumonia very seriously.

I developed pneumonia right after my double hip replacement, and the doctors and nurses were constantly monitoring me. (What I really think was also going on is that my appendix had also burst by then, but sice I’m one of those people with a very high pain tolerance, I didn’t feel the appropriate symptoms.)

ANYWAY – WATCH FOR AMENDMENT #93.

I don’t know the # for the UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE AMENDMENT, but it’s on the docket.

Comment by Andy | 2008-08-09 10:24:54

I had pneumonia upon returning for an overseas trip.It was very painful and really horrible…
broke a two ribs from the coughing…

I am sorry for Mr. Mac’s family and for him being so young.

One has to wonder whether people would start thinking twice before being associated like this to
BO???

Comment by makeji | 2008-08-09 10:33:34

He apparently had a serious lung condition that was in remission. It’s likely that any sort of lung infection, particularly pneumonia would be especially dangerous for him.

Comment by jwrjr | 2008-08-09 13:15:08

Also note that “pneumonia” is not a well defined condition. Essentially that is the name that the doctors use when there is a lung infection that they don’t really know what it is.

Comment by wry | 2008-08-09 10:41:09

Susan, you didn’t have to tell us you have a high tolerance for pain! It’s obvious from the work you do here.
Are you of Scottish descent by any chance?

On another subject, Bernie Mac was on of my favorite comediand, his recent comments excepted. It’s sad for anyone to die so young.

Comment by SusanUnPC | 2008-08-09 12:31:47

There’s some Scottish blood in me. Mostly Swiss German though. (But thank god I didn’t inherit the Swiss family’s obsessive-compulsive cleaning disorder. A quick glance around my place confirms that. It is GOOD to be clean, and i much prefer it, but it also eats up an inordinate amount of time.)

Bernie’s death IS sad, especially for such a young man. He must have had a viral form of pneumonia. I hope he had the very best medical care. AND that he got to the hospital in time. Too many people with pneumonia don’t go to the hospital when they should.

Comment by Mirlo | 2008-08-09 15:42:31

I am Swiss German and I have a mess disorder! haha

Comment by Boxer Mum 06 | 2008-08-09 16:22:43

Reggie White, former Phila Eagle and GB Packer died as a result of the same disease Bernie Mac had, something about enlarged organs that I think was the route cause of both their deaths. Very tragic and both lost too soon.

Comment by Joe | 2008-08-09 13:20:07

Before the days of hip replacement surgery, a broken hip in the elderly was practically a death sentence because they would become immobile, which would lead to pneumonia and death from it.

Comment by TeakwoodKite | 2008-08-09 17:57:21

I will always admire your sheer guts and view your perservence as a fine example of humanity.

Seperating the symbols from the person is only as easy as the person is genuine.

You are one tuff cookie. :)

During that time, I am reminded of all the stories of people sharing their experiences of “health care” in this country, and in others countries as well.

It seems like yesterday that Dr Carol posted those two articals of her experience at NYC Ground Zero on 9/12 and (as I recall she described it) “bumping into” Senator Clinton.
As the Senator made every effort on the Canadian team’s behalf and other ECU’s.

Dr. Carol’s story about an American injured in Canada as she described the patient in tears for fear of the cost.
I so which I could replace the good doctors despair on that night as she treated the broken arm, being reminded once again how lacking the United State’s view of care for profit.

When will we learn?

WATCH FOR AMENDMENT #93.

Should not this be Amendment #1?

It does sicken me to hear Dean speak of Obama as “our nominee” and use patronizing words when describing Hillary Clinton and her supporters.
Especially galling when he’s threatening her with severe political consequences if she has the audacity to allow her name to be placed into nomination at the convention.

What a croc!

By the way, Dean looks beaten up. Maybe the bitter old women are getting on his last nerve.

Comment by Darryl | 2008-08-09 09:55:57

Thats why they will loose. They can’t keep their mouth shut, they are the ones full of hate, not us. I saw hate in Obama’s face the third time I heard him speak. I looked into his eyes as he pointed that finger and growling speaking of hope and change and realized that it was quite the opposite, he was litterally passionately pissed off. What a load of crock shite Obama is.

Comment by William Arnone | 2008-08-09 10:31:53

PMM also mentioned that Dean doesn’t look good.

He appears to have lost at least 40 lbs., she said. She also said he looks gaunt, and his face is very drawn.

I wonder if he is ill? I hope not. But it could be the stress. I believe he has a conscience. I believe that, in his hearts of hearts, he has grave reservations about what he is doing. I wish he would have the courage to realize that, and state so publicly. But he won’t.

Comment by makeji | 2008-08-09 10:39:15

If anyone follows astrology - Dean is experiencing what is known as his Saturn return. Every 28-29 years the planet of Karma returns to the position it held at birth. Saturn is often called the grim reaper, but basically, it tests you on what you’ve learned and forces you to grow up (when you are 28-30) and to grow up again at 57-59. In any event it’s a difficult period and Dean is definitely reaping what he has sown. For the record, Saturn is also making a pass over some planets in Teddy Kennedy’s astrological chart, Obama’s chart and Hillary’s chart (depending upon her time of birth).

Nice to see that some here are into the karmic implications.

Comment by beebop | 2008-08-09 11:48:02

uh … what signs would those be? Just to make sure we are looking out for ourselves? :)

Comment by Dawnelle Leona del Puma | 2008-08-09 11:53:48

ooo Saturn (never good)

Astrology was an old hobby of mine the reality of science and the fact the sky has changed at least ONE sign since the original which makes everyone “off” by one!

LOL

for fun - I play
to make it a daily movement is yet another thing

but I’ve SEEN karma work
(or call it a person’s conscience or their “chickens coming home to roost”)

getting sick and dying is something else - to me - just your time/ or bad timing/ fate/ chance/ GOD/ Allah/ The Great Awakening

when its over
it’s over :-(

Mars is conjunct Saturn in my sign - Virgo.

What’s really messed up is that my Sun and Mars are conjunct (one degree) in my natal.

What the heck do I do to protect myself during this challenging aspect?

TIA

Comment by a nancy in name only | 2008-08-09 15:47:19

You’ve probably been through this before - depending on your age. Just drive carefully, don’t schedule any surgeries and be kind to everyone you meet - that feeds the good karma meters.

Comment by a nancy in name only | 2008-08-09 15:40:03

When unearned delegates are given to Obama…………….

….Obama, the “rules”, the corrupt “leaders”, and the people who approved or passively accepted, have disgracefully BETRAYED We The People, disgracefully betrayed our forefathers and foremothers, disgracefully BETRAYED every fundamental belief we teach our children, disgracefully BETRAYED our Pledge of Allegiance, and disgracefully BETRAYED the countless dead and maimed since the beginning of our great country, whose sacrifice cannot be measured. This is morally wrong and disgustingly shameful of the first order.

Just imagine this practice in every civic and corporate boardroom, in every school classroom where votes are sometimes used, in every sporting event where the fair flip of a coin is like a vote, and in the bill voting of the United States Congress.

Every delegate owes his or her outrage and resistance.

Obama robbed from my soul and many souls, and wants us to be happy with his thievery.

Absolutely NO DELEGATE should vote for corrupt Obama who happily stole what is not his.

Whats going on is that obama can’t fill these venues with underage people now—ie teenagers. So his army has gone back to school. I bet you a million dollars close to 40% of his rallies were people who can’t vote.
