As Americans sat glued to their television sets watching the most hotly contested presidential primary in American history, pundits counted pledged delegates won in caucuses and primaries and discussed the highly prized superdelegates’ endorsements. Eventually it would be these superdelegates, Democratic officials, governors, and members of congress, who would determine the nominee, since neither contestant won enough pledged delegates in the 52 primary contests.
What the pundits forgot to tell the American public was that these superdelegates were doing some counting of their own. They weren’t counting how many of their constituents had voted for Senator Clinton or Senator Obama, but rather how much money was being put into their war chests by the Obama campaign and the Democratic hierarchy. This money, moved from one candidate to another via PAC’s, would determine their endorsements and ultimately the nomination.
Since 1987, Nancy Pelosi has represented California’s eighth district– including most of San Francisco. An Italian American, Pelosi was raised on politics. Her father was a Congressman from Maryland and the Mayor of Baltimore. Pelosi was elected as Democratic Speaker of the House 2002. Pelosi shattered the glass ceiling in the House of Representatives when she was elected the first female speaker in 2007. A shrewd politician, Madame Speaker exercises a lot of influence over the members of congress. She determines Committee assignments and in conjunction with the DNC and Howard Dean decides how much money and support the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee gives to each member of congress in their bid for re-election.
In addition, Pelosi also contributes money directly to the congressional campaigns of certain candidates through her Political Action Committee “PAC to the FUTURE.” Her PAC receives money from other PAC’s such as Service Employees International Union $10,000, American Bankers Assn $10,000, Sheet Metal Workers Union $10,000, International Association of Fire Fighters, $10,000, and Goldman Sachs 10,000. It also receives money from individuals.
In the 2008 election cycle, the Center for Responsive Politics (www.opensecrets.org) reports that Nancy Pelosi’s PAC received 585,400 and contributed more than $445,000 of this to 59 congressional candidates. PAC to the FUTURE gave money to 38 incumbents and 21 challengers.
Of the 435 members in the house, Pelosi gave money to 8.5% of them. Of the members who received money from Pelosi, 71% were men; only 29% were women. Only eleven percent of the female members of congress received support from Pelosi’s PAC. It’s disappointing that a female speaker did not symbolically make some contribution to all Democratic women in the house.
But even more important than the gender implications of Pelosi’s behavior was her impact on the Presidential election.
Publicly Madame Speaker did not endorse either Obama or Clinton in the Democratic Primary, but was she was anything but neutral.
Pelosi gave money to the campaigns of thirty-eight members of congress, twenty-eight of these endorsed Obama; ten endorsed Clinton. Pelosi contributed to the campaigns of Obama endorsers almost three to one. Pelosi not only gave to a greater number of Obama supporters, she collectively gave them more money.
Pelosi gave $250,000 to the campaigns of superdelegates that endorsed Obama and only $80,000 to the campaigns of superdelegates that endorsed Clinton. Money talks, and Pelosi and her PAC spoke volumes….in shorthand. She may not have publicly endorsed a candidate, but the members of the House of Representatives knew she supported Obama.
Of the thirty-eight Members of Congress Pelosi gave money to, sixteen went against the grain for Obama. This means, their state voted for Hillary, their district voted for Hillary, yet they endorsed Obama. Why? Follow the money.

By endorsing Obama, all of these Members of Congress went against the will of their constituents, twice, at the state level and at the district level. Only two members who received money from Pelosi’s PAC went against the grain and endorsed Hillary.
Is sixteen against the grain for Hillary and two against the grain for Obama a coincidence?
Pelosi’s contributions to the campaigns of state representatives followed a similar pattern. Sixty-three percent of the state representatives to whom Pelosi gave money, endorsed Obama in a state won by Clinton.
Ten thousand dollars, PAC to the FUTURE’s typical contribution, doesn’t seem like a lot of money but besides getting money from PAC TO THE FUTURE, most of these members got contributions from other PACs.
These contributions were most likely orchestrated by Pelosi and company since the overlap is too startling. Congressman James Clyburn from South Carolina has BRIDGE PAC. BRIDGE PAC gave money to all but two of these same members of congress. Steny Hoyer from Maryland has AMERIPAC. AMERIPAC gave money to almost every single one of these same members of congress. Typical donations from both of these PAC’S were $10,000.
And then there is the NATIONAL LEADERSHIP PAC and the NEW DEMOCRAT COALITION, and of course there is the HOPE FUND owned by Barack Obama. All of these PACs donated an average of $10,000 to most of their campaigns. These young representatives got a lot of pressure to endorse Obama no matter which way their district or state voted. The voices of their constituents were irrelevant.
It seems Obama was just posing as a Washington outsider. But in reality—all the real Washington insiders Pelosi, Dean, Kennedy, Clyburn, Hoyer, and Kerry were on his team all along. Pelosi’s Pac might be named PAC to the Future, but it took direct action to purposely undermine the first significant female candidate for the presidency in history. In so doing, she pushed women back decades.
ACTION: Call Pelosi’s office at 415-556-4862 and let her know how you feel. Let’s not just call her biased against women; let’s call her finished.

All delegates should vote the way their constituencies vote. If not, we have the ability to end their political careers by not re-electing them to any office in the future. Joe courtney is up for re-election in CT in November, but I, for one, will not be supporting him. I will vote for the republican. I will not support any down-party Dem who did not support Clinton. She also gave to Obama supports in a 28 to 10 ratio, (which is close to 3:1, but not quite). The question you have to ask though, is what was the ratio of congressional supporters who ended up supporting Obama over Hillary? Was it closer to 3:1 or closer to 1:1? My guess is the former, so not much has been shown h ere.

The question you have to ask though, is what was the ratio of congressional supporters who ended up supporting Obama over Hillary?

The question you must ask yourself is “Of the 38 incumbents to whom Pelosi gave money, what was the ratio of endorsements for Obama over Clinton?”
The answer is 3:1.
28 for Obama. 10 for Clinton.
The focus of this discussion is “What are the effects of Pelosi’s donations upon endorsements for Obama and Clinton?”
Pelosi didn’t give money to all 435 Representatives.
Therefore, the ratio of endorsements for Obama over Clinton from all 435 Representatives is irrelevant.

Now I will vote a straight Republican ticket and I hope millions of others do as well. All those fat cats who give Pelosi all that money so she can stop a vote on Off Shore Drilling from coming to the floor and forcing an end to the nomination process when it looked more and more like Hillary would take it. The more we learn about this election, the more sick we get over our own party. I understand that they had what they thought was a wise strategy going into this election - find a fresh face with no record for the Repubs to trash and vault him forward. What they didn’t count on was Hillary being so formidable, that the mainstay of the voting public would want her over him after watching her kick a** in the debates. That they would still come out in droves even after the party elite and media told us it was over. They should have watched those returns, where Hillary garnered all of the rural votes - the votes that actually determine our presidency as the cities always go Dem. They should have switched gears after witnessing the electorate stand up for Hillary. Now it is too late.
Again, thanks for doing this research. Guess we have to start this process with other politicos like Ted Kennedy and John Kerry to see where their pac dollars went. So sad to watch our party go the way of the Repubs.

Sorry Meileen and Thinker, but Pelosi and that crowd were trying to make sure Hillary did not win - it had nothing to do with them seeing that she could get votes. No one in their right mind would have run an unknown like BO against the Clinton “Machine” except for the mischief they had in mind to undermine the machine and her candidacy.
However, this was not all that Pelosi did. She had employed a Silicon Valley Venture Capitalist company to run her successful “Take back Congress” campaign. She chose the candidates that would receive the money from this mega fund raising network. Then, in 2007, she introduced Barack Obama to these Venture Capitalists who are responsible for his successful fund raising and organizing massive campaign groups. They had helped John Kerry raise money in 2004, but their company was still in its beginning stages with politics at that point. By 2007 it was quite a money machine as well as a network organizer and BO is the benefactor of their success.
So this is what you have: Pelosi got Obama’s fundraising in place (the most money that has ever been raised in politics period), Dean got his two most talented hi-tec geeks from his 2004 campaign to help organize events and caucuses, etc., the DNC laid out his strategy (the 50-state one), and Rep. Clyburn (SC) and Donna Brazile kept the AA’s angry at the Clintons’ to keep them in line and not voting for Hillary.
And the most sickening thing of all is Obama is being given credit for this modern-day, hi-tec, wildly successful political campaign when none of this was his idea. The Pelosis, Deans, Cliburns, Brazils decided Obama was “The One” and they set out to make it happen. We have to make sure they are not successful.

DENVER (CBS4) ― CBS4 News has learned if mass arrests happen at the Democratic Convention, those taken into custody will be jailed in a warehouse owned by the City of Denver. Investigator Rick Sallinger discovered the location and managed to get inside for a look.
The newly created lockup is on the northeast side of Denver. Protesters have already given this place a name: “Gitmo on the Platte.”
Inside are dozens are metal cages. They are made out of chain link fence material and topped by rolls of barbed wire.
“This is a secured environment,” Capt. Frank Gale of the Denver Sheriff’s Department told CBS4. “We’re concerned about how that’s going to be utilized by people who will be potentially disruptive.”
In past conventions, mass arrests have taken place.
With Denver’s jails already overflowing, new space had to be created and officers trained.
Each of the fenced areas is about 5 yards by 5 yards and there is a lock on the door. A sign on the wall reads “Warning! Electric stun devices used in this facility.”

In response to the shootings of over 30 people in a 48 hour period, Chicago’s Mayor Daley will arm the police with M4 Carbines. These machine guns’ rate of fire is upwards of 700 round per minute in 3 round bursts.
Note that Chicago has had a handgun ban for decades, yet the overwhelming number of shootings in Chicago are perpetrated by criminals using handguns. Rather than admitting that gun control doesn’t work and simply leads to criminals having a monopoly on guns while law abiding citizens are left unprotected, Chicago’s Mayor Daley will now give the police machine guns. Unlike the ordinary citizens of Chicago, however, Mayor Daley himself will not be unprotected. Instead, he will continue to be protected by his taxpayer-sponsored, gun toting bodyguards.
From a safey standpoint, this decision to give the police M4 Carbines also concerns me. The federal government virtually banned the ability of ordinary citizens to have machine guns, citing safety concerns among other things. With a fully automatic weapon, an accidental pull of the trigger means multiple stray bullets instead of one. These rifles also fire bullets that will penetrate much further than the average handgun, which will put innocent bystanders at greater risk. Now combine the already existing problem of police using excessive or entirely unnecessary force…..

At a June 4 hearing, now-retired Lt. Michael Chasen, who was then deputy chief of the detective division, warned the program could be cost prohibitive. A report he had written, released Thursday, said it “would be a direct detriment to the department’s mission.”
On Thursday, Burke asked Peterson if Chasen had been told that if he did not retire he would have been demoted to his “career service rank of lieutenant.”
Peterson declined to answer, citing personnel and privacy issues, but when asked again if Chasen was told to retire or face demotion, responded, “That was not a result of this hearing.”
Nevertheless, Burke suggested the Police and Fire Committee hold further hearing on Chasen’s retirement to see if it was the result of retaliation for his testimony at the committee, which Burke said would be a violation of the city whistle-blower ordinance.

He was elected to replace Melissa Hart (because this district believed she was an extension of Rick Santorum). But he hasn’t turned out to be any better, just different. He can just as easily be ousted. His vote at the Convention will be closely watched!

Well, the top 10 contributors are UBS, AT&T, Blackstone Grp., JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Lehman, National Amusements, and Texas Pacific Group. That list doesn’t have a lot in common with my priorities, but it seems quite similar to Barry Soetoro’s.

Correlation does not imply causation. If A (receiving money from Pelosi) and B (endorsing Obama) are correlated, there are 4 possible conclusions:
1. A causes B
2. B causes A
3. A and B are both caused by C
4. A and B correlate by coincidence
I can see several possible (and testable) common causes for A and B:
- Newer congresspeople are more likely to need financial support for reelection. Newer congresspeople may be more likely to support Obama, due to age, support for “change”, less connections to D establishment
- The candidates may see it as more acceptable to their constituents to support Obama. This may correspond with being from an unsafe district, needing to distancce yourself from the right-wing’s favorite hate object
This is why we need term limits for Congress. We will never end this corruption and influence peddling until we insist that after 2 terms, look for other employment.
