Tonight on NoQuarterRadio: Bud White interviews James Lee Burke

Tonight at 9pm ET on Bud White’s Hidden Agenda: An interview with James Lee Burke.

He’s been called “the Faulkner of crime fiction.” James Lee Burke’s novels are more than just brilliantly-plotted thrillers; they’re lyrical explorations of the American soul. He’s won the Edgar Award twice, been nominated for a Pulitzer, and seen three of his books made into films (the latest, In The Electric Mist With Confederate Dead, is due out this year and stars Tommy Lee Jones as Cajun detective Dave Robicheaux.) Now he’s back on the bestseller list with Swan Peak, the 17th book in the Robicheaux series.

Listen to the livestream broadcast tonight from 9pm to 10pm ET on NoQuarter Radio. The call-in number for questions is (347) 677-0792.

An audio archive of the program will be available on NQR immediately following the broadcast.

Angry Michelle is weighed down by boulder-size chips on each of her shoulders; admits her scores too low for Princeton, Harvard

I wasn’t supposed to go to Princeton and Harvard because my scores were too low. I wasn’t supposed to have successful careers in law and government and public service; I wasn’t good enough. We live in a nation were I am not supposed to be here. And I am certainly not supposed to be the First Lady of the United States. Statistically speaking, I am beating the odds.

The details still being worked out, but Clinton’s name will be put into nomination at the Denver convention on Wednesday. That will be one day after Clinton addresses the convention…

What has also been hashed out is that at some point during the convention, Clinton will release her delegates officialy to Obama and that she will make it very clear that she is voting for Obama, the source said.

Hillary will get a roll call vote…can anyone confirm? Please keep up the pressure those three videos are making an impact, the DNC realizes that it will go down in history as preventing Hillary from competing and fixing the race.

Please keep passing those videos via e-mail.

The difference is that the ‘academic’ world is catching up with the FIX and all the confusion and are now documenting it. PUMA and all us bloggers will also be documented as voters that refused to give up their rights. History scholars are not going to write ‘Hope and Change’ they will dig and dig and tell what happened.

We need a NEW VOTERS RIGHTS ACT so that this doesn’t happen again. The Democratic Party is in serious need of REFORM.

James Lee Burke is my favorite Author. I am reading The Tin Roof Blowdown now. He has a beautiful way with words. He is just poetic and mesmerizing and I always hate for his books to end. I haven’t read Alafair’s books, yet, but plan to. I am soooo glad he has a new book out and I look forward to your interview. Thanks!

Criminently.

Burke is my favorite fiction writer, too. I’ve just finished Swan Peak and, as is always true with Burke’s books, the language is beautiful and masterful. I love the fact that he has a real grasp of what is really going on in this country, how there are just two classes: the rich and the rest of us.

OMG Burke is one of my absolute favorite writers. He is just fantastic, I’ve read every one except Swan Peak.

Nobody depicts Louisiana the way he does. Every one of his books puts you right in the midst of its glory, its squalor, the beauty of its nature. The dialogue is so realistic and believable it sounds like you’re eavesdropping on a private conversation. His love for the state and his rage at what government/industrial corruption have done to its people and its environment are palpable. In his books, people consistently refer to Robicheaux having a “chip on his shoulder” and “hating rich people.” Well, it’s true: But I love that Burke has created a character who is as flawed as any of us, but I also think Dave is Burke’s voice of populist rage.

I remember wondering what his response to Katrina would be. Tin Roof Blowdown answers that beautifully. The closing scene was breathtaking, heartbreaking, no superlatives will suffice.

Can’t wait for this interview!!

Wow, I’m going to try really hard to listen to JLB, he is without a doubt my favorite author.

Read Swan Peak the week it came out. My only complaint with JLB is he just doesn’t write fast enough for me. If I could only read one author for the rest of my life, he would be my pick.

I loved Swan Peak, somehow the end seemed more hopeful to me than some of the other books…

Tommy Lee Jones that’s a good one! who plays Cletus?

I’ve never been to New Orleans and always planned to go there and do a kind of JLB self-tour of the area. I was so dismayed to tour some of the places via the news media during the Katrina debacle. Makes my stomach churn just thinking about it again..

Obama got the nomination by stealing it from a white woman with higher credentials not to mention the popular vote.

I know this isn’t politically correct, but it’s the truth, he was selected because he is black and a man.

I wouldn’t have been so upset it he had won it fairly and squarely.

We should never lower our standards, not for anyone regardless of race or gender!
