Obama’s Problems in Tonight’s Debate [Update]
By NoQuarter on August 16, 2008 at 11:34 PM in Barack Obama, Obamaisms, Qualifications
[FROM LARRY JOHNSON--Great work Susan. Did anyone record Obama's nuttiness in claiming he voted against the Iraq war? Let us know asap and we'll get it up.]
We plan to write more on this but here is the skinny, quickly, on some of the reasons John McCain easily won the “debate” tonight. (NOTE: We are still waiting for the transcript to appear at CNN. However, Memeorandum.com provides a rich, at-a-glance view of all of the news stories and blog posts about the forum hosted by Rev. Rick Warren.)
(1) Obama can’t come close to the life experiences that John McCain has had, that tested him in a way that most of us will never know.
(2) Obama flat-out lied or misspoke (you choose the verb):
Obama said the most gut-wrenching decision of his life was to vote against the Iraq War. McCain said it was when he declined an offer to leave a prison camp in Vietnam.
Barack Obama was not in the U.S. Senate until 2005. Those who DID have to make that “gut-wrenching decision” were John McCain, Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, John Kerry, and 96 other senators.
[UPDATE] (2A) “Obama: Clarence Thomas Is Just Too Dumb“:
On Thomas: “I don’t think he was a strong enough jurist, or legal thinker.”
On Scalia: … although I don’t think there’s any doubt about his intellectual brilliance.”
I wonder if Obama thinks all black people are dumb? Based upon previous Jesse Jackson comments, Jackson pretty much suggested he does when he accused Obama of talking down to blacks. [HERE IS THE VIDEO.]
(3) A very worried Taylor Marsh said Obama needs to bring a “debate drill sargeant in and do some work.” (What she wrote is below the fold.)
Taylor is correct.
However, there’s a basic problem that no one can solve for Barack Obama. NO COACH IN THE WORLD can give Barack Obama the experiences, the travel worldwide, the meetings with world leaders in countless countries, the study of a multitude of world and domestic issues, the countless meetings in an array of venues that John McCain has had.
Barack Obama is simply not ready for the job. And no coach can teach him enough, especially with the precious little time left, how to fake that experience.
Below, I’ve pasted exactly what Taylor wrote:
Obama could have had policy answers ready to help push forward why Democratic policies are grounded in humanity and morality, which proves why he’d be a much better president. Instead he offered his standard word fogs without any goal whatsoever, much like he did in the primaries where Clinton regularly cleaned his clock. McCain came with policy talking points and a goal. Our guy better get a debate drill sargeant in and do some work, because so far there’s no evidence he’s going to best McCain in them. Obama’s hour is now, minus the Clarence Thomas answers, completely forgettable. Not good. McCain even got in an answer on Georgia and Russia, which folded into freedom and energy issues. Minus the ridiculous, ad nauseam “my friend” belches, quite a performance for the
neoconMcCain. Why do you want to be president? I can’t remember Obama’s answer. McCain’s came in a sound bite: “I want to inspire a generation of Americans to serve a cause greater than their self-interest.” Obama better game up.
Obama-speak works just great in rally settings.
Obama-speak will work in a football stadium.
Obama-speak will not work in a one-on-one debate with a REAL HUMAN BEING who has the vast experience that both Hillary Clinton and John McCain have had.
There is no substitute for having done the work.
There is no substitute for having traveled to 70+ countries, as Hillary Clinton has done. (I don’t know how many countries McCain has visited, but it is probably in the higher double digits.)
There is no substitute for having met world leaders on their turf, several times.
For example, John McCain has PERSONALLY been to embattled Georgia several times.
John McCain knows the country of Georgia. He knows its people. He knows its leaders. He knows its problems. He knows its fears and its dreams.
Barack Obama cannot fake that kind of experience.
And there is not enough time to even begin to learn how to fake it.
Barack Obama is out of his league.

I do not agree with some of McCain’s positions, but he absoutely knocked it out of the ballpark. Obama spoke as though he was trying to figure out what people would want him to say. Nice words. No meat.
McCain was decisive, firm, and, yes, revealed what can only be achieved by someone with experience.
EXACTLY right! Your post sums it up quite nicely. McCain would be, by far, the better president.
Taylor Marsh’s guy… how she grovels… but the boys in the back room never seem to notice her… what a pity…

As a followup i just want to say that i am so incredibly dissappointed after seeing McCains performance tonight that there will be no debates between John and Hillary, those would have been the most amazing debates ever.
I’ve had this thought many times before. Hillary and John are to vastly experienced leaders with a depth of knowledge, titans of their party, who would debate the issues of America today with intelligence, clarity, and respect. One of the many things about Obama that I detest is that he took away that moment for me, seeing real leaders debate our nation’s problems, by utilizing his (and the DNC helped as well) underhanded primary tactics to rig the system and be the nominee (or at least it inevitably seems).
Hopefully, at another time in my life I will actually get the opportunity to see two individuals who are ready to be POTUS face off over what is for the good of our country. In this election though, if not Hillary, then McCain. No question about that. No deal.
John McCain kicked B. Hussein’s skinny butt. It was unreal how lopsided this forum was.
B. Hussein is definitely NOT ready for the most powerful office in the world.
Obama does not do well at all when his cheerleaders aren’t screaming and drooling his name in the crowd. I noticed he seldom looked at the crowd.
I like that McCain showed his humor.
Brilliant Jeremiah. Must. Steal!
By all means. If Obama can get away lifting whole passages from other peoples stump speaches, and claiming dredit for other peoples legislations, who am I to deny anyone the use of material.
And remember its not stealing, you have though those before and actually helped me articulate them prior to the posting as you have said many times before…get that Obama Lingo down girl!
hehe
lmao @ those headlines
I was surprised that he did not bring up Reverend Wright when he was talking about the three most influential people in his life. He did in his book. Instead he brought up his hippie mother and the typical white grandmother.
There he goes again…conveniently white. Not very Democratic Party of him.
Amazing Chameleon Man
The Geico Guy!
Obama is dishonest, does anyone really believe what he says anymore? Wright, Phleger, and Ayers are probably the three most influential people in Obama’s life — I think we know enough about Obama to draw this conclusion.
And how much time did he and his family recently spend with that wonderful typical white grandmother?
Someone needs to research this and find out:
How much time did he spend with his aging Grandmother?
Did Michelle and the kids go see her at all; if so, for how long?
There’s got to be a way to find out.
Michelle and the kids DID NOT GO to see her. Obama spent one whole hour. He probably body surfed longer than that.
Oh really? Did you follow Michelle and the kids around the entire time they were on the island. Please provide me with Obama’s agenda for the entire week. Since you seem to know where he and his family were at all times.
Yesbama, Prehaps you could provide it for everyone Humm?
I am suprised he didn’t bring up JFK and say he’s channeling him.
With Age comes Wisdom..
Amen on that.
Obama is simply not POTUS material.
This was as “side-by-side” as we’ve seen thus far. I think many expected the Golden Tongue would leave McCain in the dust. David Gergen looked astounded at the end when he was asked to summarize his impression because he said McCain is going to prove much tougher in the debates than anyone thought. That might have been a nice way of saying that Obama blew it.
Anyone who’s really been following this campaign closely shouldn’t have been surprised by tonight. Obama is great in front of a teleprompter, but he leaves a lot to be desired as a debater, especially when he has to face unscripted questions for which he hasn’t had a chance to prepare. This is compounded by his hesitance to say what he really thinks, instead carefully parsing each syllable for its potential politcal effect. Anyone who’s ever raised a child knows what “Ummm … ummm … ah, ah … ummm” means. It means the child being questioned is trying to think himself out of trouble by saying the exact right thing that will get him off the hook.
McCain is the exact opposite. His formal speaking ability is modest, at best. But in an informal give & take setting such as tonight’s event, he excels because a) he speaks from the heart, and b) the wisdom and experience built up over his 71 years, including over 20 in the US Congress, stands him in good stead.
Obama would benefit from joining a Toastmasters club. They count the number of ahs people say when they give a speech and try to help them correct that problem.
McCain comes off as honorable whereas Obama seems disingenuous.
You forgot “Well you know..”
AHHHH! Not again…
make
Oblowme
stop with the Amateur Hour antics!
I watched a video of McCain in a setting with a group of maybe 200 people. He spoke about his experience with a guard at his prison camp in Vietnam.
McCain talked about how compassionate this one guard was towards him. You could tell his words were heartfelt. By the end of his story I had tears in my eyes. That’s something I never thought would happen to me while watching John McCain speak about anything.
I agree with those who say you can’t teach this kind of experience.
Christmas at the Hanoi Hilton
Obama did great last night. It’s all in the eye of the beholder. You see only what you want to see. Other people see what’s actually in front of them.
Obama can’t debate. We’ve already seen that little problem. That’s why he dodged and weaved the Town Hall idea too. No telepromter. No script. No answers.
McCain flattened BO’s bus with a B-52. I only feel bad for some of the folks who were stuck under it.
Quite frankly, at this point in time I don’t feel sorry for any of Obama’s enablers. They have pushed this poser and sham on us and expected we would fall in line. These folks derserve to be pushed under the bus. All of them. The only people I feel for are the good regular American citizens who will not have a chance to vote for for a great candidate - Hillary. (Although I have to admit I do still harbor thoughts of an upset at the convention.)
of course Mccain kicked Baracktrack’s ass in the debate…
why do you think Baracktrack has been avoiding those town hall meetings with Mccain?
what a coward, what an incompetent weasel Baracktrack is…
i will happily vote for Mccain to stop the corrupt Baracktrack stealing another election…

National Security and Financial Risks: Islamists are attempting to impose Shariah Compliant Finance (SCF) on Western institutions to use our own financial strengths against us. The most serious problem with SCF is that it legitimates and institutionalizes Shariah law (i.e., Islamic law), a theo-political- legal doctrine violently opposed to Western values. With $1 -$2 trillion petrodollars annually looking for an investment home, blind exuberance is driving financial institutions to adopt SCF, without even a minimal baseline for legal compliance. This willful blindness, and lack of both transparency and due diligence may cause SCF to be the next sub-prime crisis, but this time with deadly consequences.
Legal Risks: Western financial institutions which adopt SCF may have criminal and civil exposure to claims of aiding and abetting sedition and the material support of terrorism, securities fraud, consumer fraud, racketeering, and antitrust violations, as well as exposure to tort claims for sedition and terrorism, and for the violation of internationally recognized norms of the law of nations.
Terror Financing Mechanism: SCF as monitored by paid Shariah law advisors to U.S. banking institutions must “purify” certain return on investment (ROI) dollars that do not meet Shariah law standards. This money must be donated to Islamic charities - including some that promote Jihad and support suicide bombing. Investment disclosures state that these profits can be as high as 6% of profits of investments. With $800 billion already in SCF assets, the potential for billions of dollars to be siphoned off for terrorism is real. This would be a serious criminal violation of U.S. law.
Consider this example: Shariah Mutual Funds promote themselves as “ethical funds.” To be Shariah-compliant, they donate “tainted” revenues to Shariah-compliant “charities.” A post 9-11 U.S. investor in a Shariah-compliant “ethical investment” is not told that Shariah law also requires imposing Shariah as U.S. law, execution of gays and female apartheid. Is he a victim of consumer fraud? Is this same post 9-11 investor unwittingly funding terror? The government has shut down the three largest Shariah-compliant charities in the U.S. - the Holy Land Foundation, Benevolence International Foundation, and the Global Relief Foundation - after proving they funded terrorist organizations. The American taxpayer deserves answers to these questions. The Center for Security Policy (CSP) is meeting directly with members of Congress, U.S. regulatory agencies and Wall Street financial institutions in order to ensure the enforcement of existing U.S. laws on sedition, disclosure, material support of terrorism, and money-laundering. CSP is committed to revealing the civil liability and criminal exposure of Shariah law and Shariah-compliant finance.
WHAT IS SHARIAH LAW?
Understanding Shariah law is integral to understanding the dangers of Shariah-compliant finance. Shariah law is Islamic law dating back to the 7th century and is today the law of the land in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Sudan and the law under which the Taliban operates. Recent polls reveal that only 10-15% of Muslims worldwide want to live under this all-encompassing system of Islamic jurisprudence that covers all aspects of a Muslim’s life including religious, social, political, and military obligations. However, with a current population of 1.5 billion Muslims, this translates to a huge pool of Jihadist recruits and supporters - a base of approximately 150 - 225 million Muslims. Shariah law authorities, some of whom are now being paid handsomely by Barclays, Dow Jones, Standard & Poors, HSBC, Citibank, Merrill Lynch, Deutschebank, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, UBS, Credit Suisse and others have the power to dictate Shariah compliance as deemed by “scholarly consensus” on matters of finance, family, penal law, apostasy, and war. Examples of authoritarian Shariah law include: requirement of women to obtain permission from husbands for daily freedoms; beating of disobedient woman and girls; execution of homosexuals; engagement of polygamy and forced child marriages; the testimony of four male witnesses to prove rape; honor killings of those, principally women, who have dishonored the family; death to apostate Muslims who chose to leave Islam; inferior status of non-Muslims, and capital punishment for those “slander Islam.”
The website that was watching Sharia finance around the world has been shut down.. Luckily I still had the list.. If you do not agree with Sharia making it’s way into your life I suggest not doing business with these banks and telling the banks why you’re not doing business with them.
this is just one aspect of the dangers posed by a (potential) president who is WAY TOO CLOSE to islamic culture. it really doesn’t mater whether he is a christian or a muslim deep down in his heart; there is simply no denying that he has a closeness to and affection for islam that is the result of having had two muslim fathers and many muslim relatives, lived in a muslim country for several of his most formative years, associated with many muslims (some radicals) here in america, etc.
now, the O apologists will say “what’s wrong with islam?” and “you can’t criticise islam or you’re a bigot;” well, that’s a load of crap. religion is an ideology like any other ideology, and its tenets and practices are subject to the same scrutiny and criticism as any other ideology, and the fact is that islam, as it is practiced by the vast majority of muslims, is about as far away as possible from american ideals of democracy, human rights, including women’s rights (i know, it’s redundant, but just for the sake of clarity), separation of church and state, freedom of speech, religion, expression, etc. no way in heck do i want to see america move one inch closer to islam and the typical systems of government/culture practiced in muslim countries. if you listen to obama fanatics, it’s clear that they are islamophiles, and at least border-line america haters on top of that.
Tish, good column..informative.
Obama donated quite a few thousand dollars to his islamist Sharia Law cousin Odinga whose gangs burned churches and raped villagers in December. The then president of Kenya had launched a formal complaint to the US. government that “the young freshman Senator doesn’t have the experience to meddle in international affairs to support a Luo tribe cousin”.
Wouldn’t the internally displaced (as result of Odinga’s coup) 150,000 Kenyan women be upset to know that the man who signed away for their enslaved Sharia status would be the cousin of the U.S. president?
What Odinga wants is to have Kneya revamped into a save haven for terrorists, against U.S. policy and is changing the constitution! Obama knew htis when he supported his cousin!
And it wasn’t even a debate. He got to sit there alone. No rebuttal. Of course, he had no one’s answer first so that he could copy like he did with Hillary.
You are defending John McCain in tonights debate? I get that you don’t like Obama. I get that you have been trying to oust him from the Democratic ticket, but are you people honestly defending John McCain tonight? His answers were all the complete opposite of anything Hillary Clinton would have ever said.
Thank you for a legitimate question.
No, we are not supporting John McCain. We have made that statement in numerous posts here — just not every single one because it gets a bit repetitious. Nor do we plan, at this time, to support John McCain.
How we wish that the Democratic party — there’s still time — would somehow come to its senses and realize that this young man simply needs more experience before he can become president.
He could have eight years additional experience as Vice President — especially if he made the most of it, and worked his heart out, and traveled, and learned, and talked to people (and listened to them).
That is some of the seasoning he needs before he can come close to matching Hillary Clinton’s knowledge and experience.
It. Is. Not. Too. Late.
I respect your decision to support (or refuse to support) whoever you like, but I don’t McCain is not a suitable alternative. Obviously, I deeply dislike McCain, and I’m sure many of you don’t like his positions either. I would like to know, why are all your efforts going into discrediting Obama? It’s not that you aren’t allowed to, I’m just wondering why I haven’t seen any attempts to organize, at least for this year, behind a previously established third party.
DO NOT WANT-DO NOT TRUST FRAUBAMA.
I understand that. Please be reasonable, I’m working on the assumption that you’ll never vote for Obama in a million years. I was respectfully asking why there is no rallying behind a third party.
I believe the plan is to push for Hillary as long as possible, then decide. I don’t think the site is so much pro-McCain but rather ‘look how out of his league Obama is in a presidential election’. Also I think, legitimately, folks would rather vote for a guy that votes across party lines and is a clear patriot versus a guy that is an empty suit that says whatever he thinks his audience wants to hear.
Because to vote third party is ineffective. They have little chance of winning. Plus, iIn some states, they probably won’t even be on the ballot.
That doesn’t matter. Hillary has little chance of becoming the nominee of the Democratic party, but that hasn’t stopped any of you, has it?
is this third party push the latest tactic of the soeBOBOcamp to try to dilute the opposition vote? or are you just in the bargaining stage of grief since your boy can barely squeak and margin a error lead in the polls?
Yup.
………bargaining stage of grief …….
BINGO!! That’s IT!!
Good eye!
No,I just wanted to discuss tonight’s faith-based forum.
was there a third party candidate there?
“was there a third party candidate there?”
Lol - funny! god I love a good, sarcastic sense of humor!
as for the old “hillary support = obama support” due to “their positions being alike,” i would question which positions were being refrenced. faith-based initiative groups? FISA? how about those harry and louise ads that obama and mccain enjoy?
mccain isn’t my first choice, which is why i’m a democrat and not a republican. but obama simply ISN’T a choice - ie, he’s the worst possible President that I could imagine. so, I WILL vote for mccain, because while I don’t agree with all of his policies, he does embody the qualities I respect 1) working across party lines, 2) knows his $h*t about the military and foreign affairs (he really, really does) 3) strikes me as impressive, and 4) i really just like the guy, even if I don’t share all of his opinions.
so, no deal to barrak “blunder of a nominee” obama. it’s hillary or mccain in ‘08. no question ’bout it, there’s no deal coming from over here.
This is the usual barky-following clap trap that is trying to convince people to either write HRC in on their ballot (in a lot of states this would be a throw-away vote) or vote for a third party in order for their vote to not count “against” their messiah. It’s in chapter three of the Alynski-inspired “Camp Obama” material. didn’t you get the memo?
a margin of error lead..
But Hillary does have a chance of becoming nominee.
The goal is to defeat Obama and it is too late to get any type of third party off the ground to do that. Obama is crap warmed over, just some people’s fantasy for a feel good moment. Beyond the feel good moment then what? Obama people are not even thinking that far ahead.
I can tell you why I won’t. This election is too important to vote for a third-party candidate. To do so will surely put Obama in office and that would be a tragedy for the US. A third party candidate will only take votes away from, and cannot possibly win the election. I would like to see a moderate party formed that would be suitable to both moderate democrats and republicans, but it won’t work this year.
Nice try Adam; you know that a vote for a Third Party is a vote for B. Hussein.
I WILL vote for McCain. Obama is an arrogant, empty suit, little punk, who has NEVER accomplished anything big in his life except derailing Hillary Clinton’s train to the White House.
A Community Organizer and ACORN worker is not qualified for President of the United States.
Why vote McCain instead of third party? If McCain wins, Obama takes Dean and the whole corrupt leadership down with him. PUMAs take charge of the DNC and it WILL be Hillary in 2012.. In the meantime, McCain will defend the country but drive the Rush Limbaugh wing of his party crazy for four years and split the Republicans. A vote for McCain is a vote for Hillary in 2012.
Adam,
If Obama was not so terribly unqualified and IF WE COULD TRUST THE American Idol loving Voters to pay enough attention ,
First if that was true Obama would not be our nominee.
Second- There is no way in hell after GWB we can afford an Inexperianced person running this Country.
That’s just two and putting it mildly. I could go on for hours seriously.
It’s a protest vote. I want my Democratic party back, and that is the only way I can convey my message.
AdamB from kos, is that you? Shouldn’t you be working on Obama’s fraudulent FEC filings now?
No, people have done this to me here before. I am not affiliated with Daily Kos. And I don’t really even know who the “Adam B” you’re talking about is.
Adam , Here is one personsal view as to what I believe you are asking about.
There is nothing “normal” this year and there are reasons why, speaking only for myself, I would never vote for BO.
My sane half asks me..BO’s positions are “closer” to your position than McCain. Those positions are from the democratic Party’s traditional “values”. Not anything BO truly believes and has demonstrated.
The problem is that BO has been, in Mr. Johnson’s words, full of “flip-floppery”. So I don’t trust him one bit.
Not because he changed his position on some issue. It is that he changed based on pandering, not because the issue had matured or the parameters had changed.
Underneath this particular dilemma is the fact that BO is indifferent and immoral.
Indifferent because he intentionally profited off the backs of the people in his district. Why do you think BO had his district redrawn to include the higher income brackets? why do you think he lied about “not knowing” the conditions of the 11 tenements in his district?
Immoral because because of his arrogance, lies, intentional lack of transparency and race baiting, Mysogeny..the list is long.
So while he gives “Democratic” positions mere lip service, I cannot vote for BO based on the “content of his character” and the company he keeps. His positions don’t mean squat because his credibility to me is a big fat Zero. His judgement is worse than poor because he lacks the ability to apply common sense, suffers from the chronic long term effects of drug use, lack of transparence, yells when he is losing a point he want to make.
Finally I don’t have to take Michelle’s word for it. He is pathetic as a politictian.
my two cents worth, (and I have a piggybank full of pennies when it comes to BO)
Well, at least he is speaking respectfully with us. And I deeply appreciate that.
We do not run off supporters of Barack Obama. We have probably run off more McCain and PUMA supporters than any Obama supporters — because of their use of certain language that we don’t permit.
We are PRO-CONVERSATION. We are PRO-DEBATE. We just wish it to be conducted respectfully. So far, Adam is conducting himself very well. And I appreciate that.
Look, troll, if you really want an answer to your question, here’s some advice for you that will enable you to “get it.”
Put away your fucking keyboard, stop typing bullshit “questions” like an ingenue on her first date, go to your mouse, and start clicking on ALL THE ARTICLES here at NQ.
Read them. YES–READ THEM. Read every word, read every comment, and read every damned one of them–not just the ones at the top of this page.
Try the RECEIVE mode instead of the TRANSMIT mode for a change. Maybe you’ll learn something.
Sure, I disagree with many of you, but I am not being rude, and it doesn’t hurt anybody to discuss this type of thing. If you don’t like it, let me talk to people that enjoy a relatively civil discussion of politics.
As I have said elsewhere, you have ZERO understanding of how government works.
Get that basic foundation FIRST before you start making up bullshit about what will happen if the Messiah is not anointed.
Your posts are bullshit because you’re making shit UP. That’s not being “mean” to you–it’s the truth.
Here’s your research list. Go do your HOMEWORK:
ADVISE AND CONSENT.
SEPARATION OF POWERS.
How to AMEND the Constitution.
How laws are passed (include veto/override).
How our government is FUNDED, and how funds are disbursed.
You don’t know shit about your own government, you can’t TALK politics. It’s like a blind man trying to describe a sunset. You have NO CLUE.
You’re a dilletante…or a cultist. Or a troll.
You’re scared, that’s for sure–it’s why you are here.
Go back to school, kid.
Take a break from singing kumbaya and try to determine any reason to support Obama. Everything about Obama is wrong. Obama does not even understand the issues and just vacillates and panders trying to find his way and trying to get votes — other than sitting in Wright’s racist anti-American church for 20 years and seeking out Marxist professors for advice, Obama does not seem to have any core beliefs.
I would prefer to go down to the city sanitatioin department and randomly pick out a garbage man to vote for before I would vote for Obama — at least the garbage man would probably be honest.
We don’t need to try to discredit Obama. Every time he opens his mouth without a teleprompter in front of him he discredits himself.
Fine, it is an effortless task. That wasn’t the point of this at all.
It is definitely Hillary or McCain for me. And I make no apologies for it.
Nobody has to discredit obama,
He does that all by himself.
If he is breathing, he’s lying.
I can never forgive the democratic party for inflicting this racist anti-american know nothing on America.
At this time in history we need competence not some person that lies and would not help this country in any way , shape , or form.
COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS
PUMAS,BUBBAS, AND THOSE PEOPLE RULE
Historically third parties offer little chance of getting candidates elected. I do not want my vote to be ‘wasted.’ All I know for sure is that I cannot support Obama. So that is why I am looking at and seriously considering McCain at this time.
Because Adam
that would be throwing away my vote.
I trust McCain infinitely more to have my country’s best interests at heart
as I see them.
I don’t trust Oblowme
and his vote for the Bush-Cheney Energy plan will forever mark him as a corporate hack in my mind.
A third party should be formed now,
but would be a waste of a vote in this election.
Yes. It. Is.
I want a statesman in the Whitehouse–not a showboater, not a fraud, not an intern. I want wisdom and experience.
He is Obama’s opponent. He did well, Obama did not. Enough said.
That is not enough. McCain is against the things that Democrats are against. You should be treating McCain the same way you would if he were running against Hillary, because he would have been holding the same positions either way.
Adam, we love our country first, party second.
Honestly, have you ever thought of that. That is what you call PATRIOTISM.
Our country is in difficult times. We need a leader not a rock star. We need somebody with an experience to LEAD us through difficult times not somebody who will entertain us.
Think about it.
You’re ignoring what I have to say. If you at any point believed that Hillary was best for our country, McCain isn’t a good second choice. Third Party. There are you happy that I said it a third time? I think now is the perfect year for people to attempt to end the “two-party” system.
That just hands the election over to Barky. Remember Bush and Nader in 2000? Too risky. Right now I feel we’ve got a choice between Jerry Lewis (ala The Nutty Professor)and Teddy Roosevelt…hmmmm…thanks, I’ll go with Teddy. But we could have had a Hill’08.
Obama sucks so bad that McCain is an attractive alternative this year, despite being a GOPer. If it was any other GOPer I may be sitting this one out. Nobody to blame there except the Dailykooks/Dean types who made it their primary mission to derail the Clintons, portrait them as racits, and steal the election.
I agree but let’s wait till after the convention.
What you “have to say” is that we should FEAR McCain, because somehow he magically, AMAZINGLY, will be able to do all sorts of nefarious stuff with a DEMOCRATIC Congress that George Bush couldn’t manage with a GOP Congress.
You wrongly ascribe KINGLY powers to the Presidency–tagging yourself either as uneducated, stupid, or a troll.
Learn how your government works.
Stop talking NONSENSE. You’re tiresome, like the rest of the unschooled, open-mouthed cultists.
George W. Bush is already achieving things with the Democratic Congress that he couldn’t with the Republican Congress. Why would McCain see less capitulation than Bush does now? Congress has already demonstrated its inability or lack of will to oppose the will of the President.
McCain stands for a platform that is the exact opposite of what every Democrat should want, and moreover, he’s not particularly bright - self-admittedly having little to no knowledge of computers, and economics, reglarly demonstrating little idea of geography or basic geopolitical history (Czechslovakia? Lifting his Georgia facts straight off of Wikipedia without attribution? Iraq-Pakistan border? Iran training Al-Qa
