More on Obama’s Answer About Justice Clarence Thomas

As thunder pounds the skies and shakes the earth here — basso continuo, like tympani drums as gargantuan as the mountains, with a deep, unholy timbre that is frightening and foreboding, so much so that friends’ dogs are hiding under their beds — I talked to a friend who told me to check out this story at Hot Air:

dont_blame_me_i_voted_for_hillary.jpgNuance: Obama almost says Clarence Thomas didn’t have enough experience to serve

And we know what horrible outcomes can arise when people without experience are placed in positions of great power. InstaGlenn accuses him of actually saying it but that’s not true: Watch him catch himself mid-sentence, the first fateful syllable of the word “experience” already out of his mouth, before he stops short and switches gears by basically calling Thomas a moron instead (at least, “at the time”) — an aspersion reinforced a moment later by the implicit contrast he draws in praising Scalia’s brilliance. A golden gaffe, narrowly avoided. Stay classy, Barry.

What is the worst of this is, as we all know here and have grown weary of trying to explain to others, is that Obama nearly expressed his OWN greatest weakness: His own lack of experience. Here’s the video:

You had better watch it, Barack. What you’re really saying that it is YOU who don’t have the experience — particularly in the inept ways you answered too many questions last night. And you KNEW it, which is why you stopped yourself suddenly. YOU KNOW IT TOO, don’t you. Not good.

As Taylor Marsh said, he needs a debate coach badly. But as I also said last night, no coach in the world can provide him with the one thing he does not have: Experience.

It was a significant — but foreboding — contribution to our discussion that, this morning, Reverend Amy mentioned that scolding letter that a betrayed John McCain sent in 2006 to the impudent, neophyte senator Barack Obama who did not know his place and did not even know enough to feign respect not only for his more senior fellow senators but also for the institution. Here is the opening salvo of that letter, which Reverend Amy reprints in full:

I would like to apologize to you for assuming that your private assurances to me regarding your desire to cooperate in our efforts to negotiate bipartisan lobbying reform legislation were sincere. When you approached me and insisted that despite your leadership’s preference to use the issue to gain a political advantage in the 2006 elections, you were personally committed to achieving a result that would reflect credit on the entire Senate and offer the country a better example of political leadership, I concluded your professed concern for the institution and the public interest was genuine and admirable. Thank you for disabusing me of such notions with your letter to me dated February 2, 2006, which explained your decision to withdraw from our bipartisan discussions. I’m embarrassed to admit that after all these years in politics I failed to interpret your previous assurances as typical rhetorical gloss routinely used in politics to make self-interested partisan posturing appear more noble. Again, sorry for the confusion, but please be assured I won’t make the same mistake again.

The experienced man lectures the young, immature senator that a man’s word IS HIS BOND.

What is shocking is that the experienced man had to give the lecture at all. Surely, one can almost certainly assume, that a man who has achieved the rare distinction of becoming a United States Senator would have learned that lesson long ago. Apparently not.

After all, as his supporters have learned — over and over and over again — in the past couple months, Barack Obama holds NO value, NO policy, and NO commitment dear enough that he isn’t willing, in a heartbeat, to toss it away like cheap garbage if it suddenly doesn’t suit his immediate overwhelming need for self-gratification.

The man is still a junkie. But his drug of choice these days is adoration. The masses must worship him. That is why a simple convention venue is not enough. There must be a stadium large enough to fit his ego.

NancyA called me this afternoon and asked me why the Democrats let themselves be transfixed by this wholly inadequately prepared candidate. There is NO rational explanation.

By thanks to their failure to conduct “due diligence” of this candidate, the Democrats are doomed to either an unnecessary, utterly preventable loss in November — in the one year they could seize victory firmly in their grasp — or to four grim years of a presidency by a unprepared, unschooled, inexperienced, unqualified man.

Historians will write about this for centuries to come.

It is tragic that we who are alive at this moment in time could not prevent this from having happened.

But our fate, and the party’s fate, has been seized and no one with any sense is listening.

The thunder rumbles. The lightning flashes. The sky is ominously dark and looming over all of us. But those who should know better are too dazzled by the power trip they’re on to stop and think about the imminent danger.

So Barry Soetoro knows that he is not Presidential material. But the con must go on.

I am an American that is tired of the second standard set of rules that some in this country are held to. I believe every person black, white or purple should be held to the same standards. I ask would you hire a greenhorn to be the Project Manager of a Construction Site that has superficial experience or would you hire a man that has 30 years of experience helping and executing the project? Would you hire the bag boy at the Supermarket to run a district of Supermarkets? Would you hire the bus boy in the cafe to run the cafe? Would you hire the janitor to be the School Superintendent? Would you hire the car salesman to operate the car manufacturing plant? Would you hire the Junior Senator to be the United States President?
Get Smart America we need a leader not a bus boy.

Comment by American Woman | 2008-08-17 21:43:15

Not only is he only a Junior Senator, he is LAZY, and hasn’t done his job in the Senate…

One of the books my economic teacher in High school had us read was the Peter Principle- about trying to do a job above one’s capability.

We saw Bush try to attempt this and he failed miserably, Obama will be worse.

I suggest Obama and his bots read it, if they are capable.

NBC’s Andrea Mitchell Floats Idea McCain Cheated

Think John McCain did pretty well in last evening’s Saddleback Civil Forum on Presidency hosted by the Rev. Rick Warren? You’re not the only one. The Obama campaign thinks he did well too — so good, in fact, that they think he might have cheated. And on this morning’s “Meet the Press,” Andrea Mitchell wasted no time floating the Obama campaign’s “private” concern:

THANKYOU FOR REMINDING ME OF HOW GLAD I AM THAT I DON’T WATCH THEIR CRAP!!!!!!

Comment by lute | 2008-08-17 21:50:36

I wonder if they have a clue how many viewers they lost because of the constant Clinton pounding.
More importantly, MSNBC does not seem to care. The station income, apparently, is not viewer driven.

The McCain campaign responds to the Obama campaign’s ridiculous cheating allegation.

The facts are that Senator McCain was in a motorcade led by the United States Secret Service and held in a green room with no broadcast feed. If the Obama campaign really believes that Senator McCain had some unfair advantage, our offer of weekly town hall forums remains on the table–anyplace, anytime.

The funny thing is that by throwing this accusation the Obama camp is admitting Obama did terribly..

Amazing…. It’s really embarrassing …

Surely, one can almost certainly assume, that a man who has achieved the rare distinction of becoming a United States Senator would have learned that lesson long ago.

He didn’t learn this, or many other things, because he hasn’t EARNED his positions and worked hard once he’s in them. That’s the problem with being carried along– there is a sense of entitlement and arrogance. If you have to work hard and learn through difficulties, you gain humility and detailed knowledge on a visceral level. Obama is faking it. He knows it & we know it. His supporters are either drunk on green and power or in deep denial, desperate to elect a Democrat. It’s like watching a train wreck.

“As Taylor Marsh said, he needs a debate coach badly. But as I also said last night, no coach in the world can provide him with the one thing he does not have: Experience.”

Lack of experience can be worked around. Obama’s problem is much worse. He is lazy. He has not used the years since graduating from Law school to read, think and write. He has no underlying knowledge base to understand what is happening and how to solve problems. This becomes painfully obvious when he is forced to give an answer beyond a “talking point.” No coach or handler can make up for all of those years that Obama wasted. We have a very similar personality in the WH now..Obama will be no better.

Comment by katmandu | 2008-08-17 22:34:48

I thought he may have been criticizing Thomas to show white voters he can be critical of blacks. I think Scalia is on a par with Thomas.

I’d point out that Thomas graduated from Yale Law school. It just goes to show — you can have a fancy degree but not be worth a nickel as a jurist or a statesman. I worked as a lawyer at a pretty elite place (sadly, my law school was only in the top 20) and there are some real bozos with degrees from highfalutin schools, including Harvard. And that’s not just my opinion. Some people are experts at playing the academic game, schmoozing with profs, knowing how to write answers that will please, but not having really deep analytical skills.

Comment by mimi | 2008-08-18 00:21:22

Why did Obama did so poorly? Because the format did not help him cheat. The questions were asked, like in a game show, so that the answers from one candidate are not heard by the opponent. BO usually takes the opponent’s (Hillary) answers, changes it a little and then it’s his answer. He couldn’t do that, so he tried to fog his answers, like he does with reporters, but that didn’t work in this forum because these want answers, not some political talking point.

What Obama was really saying is that a black man can’t be on the Supreme Court. It is a fairytale to think that a black man could be qualified. I doubt if Obama would have said this if he were white.

I just can’t bring myself to vote for a racist like this Obama.

Excellent post Susanunpc; very eloquent and right on.

Regarding

NancyA called me this afternoon and asked me why the Democrats let themselves be transfixed by this wholly inadequately prepared candidate. There is NO rational explanation.

I think MONEY is a huge reason. He seems to be getting money by the truckloads 51 Million in July; from who I don’t know… But they have labeled him as the candidate wo was able to fundraise more money that any other in history in either party… And they are talking about what ” a donor of 1 Million would get for it at the convention” . Do you get this: one individual donating 1 Million for the convention …. They aren’t dazzled by him or maybe they are but much more by the money he brings.

It is unbelievable… What a waste; what a lost opportunity.

Now suppose he takes their money and still doesn’t win.

Great post as usual, Susan. The link to Obama’s “exp..” “strenght” statement was interesting, he obviously caught himself.

It seems there is no explanation for the failure to vett…unless Obama was promised the election/nomination no matter what, or bought everyone off…but he also is making gaffes right and left as if he is broadcasting a need to get himself out of this.

What is up? And then I think well they will let HRC take the fall..nominate her from the floor and deliberately destroy her chances to win….

??

I can’t shake the feeling, this ominous feeling, that we’re in so much trouble….and this inexperienced junior senator candidate that’s not nearly strong enough to be the POTUS is, if elected, going to lead us down the path of complete destruction. We’ve been heading this way since GWB’s administration took the office and now the desperation of the democrats to win again is going to finish the deal for us Americans.

He’s not thoughtful, he’s searching for words.

He’s not a proponent of change, he’s a mask for change.

His supporters are so desperate for change that they can’t hear or see one iota of his deceitfulness. They can’t see that he’s the same old politician they hate. He’s never accomplished anything that they would really vote for.

The DNC leadership is so desperate to win an election they risk letting Howard Dean to speak in public. That’s a risky affair, and they need to learn to judge risk by the potential consequences…something that’s been severely lacking in this country’s economic and political arenas.

It’s a dreadful feeling I have when I think about a nobody becoming the POTUS. A complete nobody, whose only history was a fictional piece written by himself.

Why do you think they cast him as a political messiah? If they presented him as what he truly is NOBODY would have supported him.

Comment by Kato | 2008-08-17 22:51:22

Agreed. BO is one of the most casted characters of all political times. What a perfect word you chose.

I’m guessing the casting party started way back when he started writing books to create his history.

The ominous feeling I have is that the fix is in and they plan to steal the election. I think the machines have been hacked. I also think there will be voter intimidation on Election Day in areas where they think they can get away with it. Latino voters I suspect will be particularly vulnerable.

I refused to watch last night. 0bama makes me physically ill. Bush was bad enough. I guess Bush weakened my immune system and so I have zero tolerence for 0bama.

I’m sure NBC and msnbc think the Olympics will carry them over into the Convention.

WRONG!!!

As soon as the Olympics are over, msnbc goes back on v-chip. I will not watch that stupid Convention. Even if there’s an upset and Hillary Were to win. I’ll just watch the replay.

I’m counting the days to be able to vote for McCain.

I’ll watch the convention, but not the parts with Obama in them … assuming there are any that is.

Something I’ve been wondering….since when does a Nobody write an autobiography? That’s a serious question I’ve had.

Two autobiographies and working on a 3rd. Get um while they’re hot!

BUt…but…but susan. The DNC has decided that it is more important to elect a african american or black president of the united states at this critical time in america than to have an experienced, government knowledgeable, and saged president. So there….take that experience and capable meme..
