Beyond Their Self Interest

Anglachel in her piece titled “Greater Than Their Self Interest”, actually gives some kudos to Taylor Marsh, who has lost most of her readership, while quickly becoming an Obamarite (post-Hillary campaign suspension). Taylor actually did not give Obama much wiggle room. She actually had a good take on the “interviews” that Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Church, did with McCain and Obama. Marsh’s comments were honest for a change, not showing her usual pro-Obama/anti-McCain message found in her blogs lately. She had this to say:
…about faith. McCain goes to the Vietnamese torture. A guy came in at one point, a guard came in, then motioned him to stay quiet, then loosened the ropes tying him. He came back later to tighten them. One day outside that same guard came next to McCain and drew a cross in the ground, then quickly rubbed it out. At that one moment, there were just two Christians. This is exactly what I thought McCain would do on faith. He did not talk about Jesus. He went to an anecdote, which talked about faith and torture, what Christians do in deeds.
Anglachel had this to say about Marsh’s seemingly unbiased work.
This observation actually holds true for the contrast McCain is going to draw through the entire campaign, a message he has been honing since at least May. It is of a piece with the article today in the New York Times about Democratic leaders wanting The Precious to put some real substance behind the hopey-changey message. It resonates perfectly with the Republican assault on affirmative action.
I honestly don’t think that I can sum up a comparison between McCain and Obama any better than Anglachel. So I am sharing her very concise and to the point contrast between the two candidates.
Experience vs. narcissism. Doing the right thing vs. indulging your self. Hard knocks vs. celebrity. Living by the rules vs. preferential treatment. Embodied faith vs. religion as a convenient tool.
Anglachel notes in her piece that “I don’t think McCain actually lives up to any of the claims he makes for himself, but that is not the political point”. I have to disagree with her on this point as I believe McCain does live up to many of his “claims”, the biggest one being he is a “maverick”, often coloring out of the lines, particularly when he takes positions that are clearly anti-Republican. A case in point is the McCain-Feingold Act passed into law in 2002.
Taylor was quite critical of Obama, reminding us of his disastrous performance in the ABC sponsored debate. (Anglachel calls it grousing.) Watch Obama’s disastrous performance for yourself!
Marsh said this:
Obama could have had policy answers ready to help push forward why Democratic policies are grounded in humanity and morality, which proves why he’d be a much better president. Instead he offered his standard word fogs without any goal whatsoever, much like he did in the primaries where Clinton regularly cleaned his clock.
Obama has never had answers. He can’t discuss one single policy issue without a prepared speech by (someone else) and his “sidekicks”, The Trusty Teleprompters. It is much too late to ask Obama why he can’t give us good introspective issue-based answers. Obama isn’t ready to answer that 3 am call.
He simply lacks the wisdom and experience to run a “corner newspaper stand”, let alone our country. He truly puts his self-interests before others, if he didn’t he wouldn’t be running for president with just three years completed in the U.S. Senate.
McCain’s answers were interspersed with “his” policy points, clear and precise, from the gut. McCain comforts me because he does know his policy issues and can speak on them with confidence. While I disagree with McCain on some issues, I know he will put our “country first”.

We don’t need a president who requires constant adulation and tutelage……..
We need some one who can keep our country in my mind first, someone who will put our national security first….not his own interests!
McCain can pick anyone as v.p. and it would “make sense.” Obama can only pick Hillary Clinton if his campaign is to have even the appearance of making sense. She’s the only one who can give substance to his emptiness.
While that may be true, having HRC as the VP will still not get my vote.
HRC needs to distance herself from the BO/BS stink and let his campaign fail all on its own.
Oh I agree…..she needs to stay clear and come back in 2012. She wouldn’t get another chance until 2016 and by then she would be so “tarred” (nothing racial meant), it’s just an expression. Even 1 term would ruin her image. Beside Nance and Meshall, would yank her bald.
If Bambi does pick HRC for the VP position does anyone think it will be for her experience or for the votes she can deliver to make him President? He’ll relegate her to a do nothing role within minutes after his coronation. If Bambi gets the nomination I will vote for McCain regardless of his choice for VP.
Taylor Marsh, the sunshine patriot? She decided it was more important to stand with the DNC boys in back room than to stand for principles. She’s got a lot in common with Obama - it’s all about her.

I heard interesting commentary on McCain’s VP pick- that the “white haired dude” knows in his heart that the VP pick is an important obligation to America. The Veep is an automatic frontrunner to being the next president. McCain takes this responsiblity very seriously. Will not leave America to someone he feels is incompetent for political expedience. Compare that to Obambi- whose looking for safe or can bring him in a State.

Actually, Obama’s politics are reminiscent of fascism rather than communism, as Tarpley writes in his eye-opening book OBAMA: The Postmodern Coup.

While both communism and fascism espouse authoritarian rule, fascism alone has the distinct characteristic of rising from the masses and relying on self-policing through a civilian army. Good article Nancy. I have been confounded in this election cycle by substance, and frankly been astonished at the whole strange bedfellows DRAMA that has unfolded before my middleaged eyes. Perhaps the perfect storm of elements only comes around so often for conventional wisdom to be exposed or what it is.
Truth is in this election season there seems to be a clear generational devide between those that see the conventional wisdom in recent terms and those that see it in decades. History is afterall only a record of human behavior. When Reagan was elected in a perfect storm I was 20 years old and as a young democrat had a hard time understanding it. Now I see exactly what was going on and see as well that the ramifications are greater. Truth is this is bigger than these candidates just as who ever sits in the oval office actions effect more than our country. I want it to be a GROWNUP FULLY DEVELOPED AND INDEPENDENT WHEN IT GETS TO THE NITTY GRITTY….ABLE TO PUT COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY…IN THE TRADITION OF THOSE POLITICIANS THAT WERE SHAPED BY THE OFFICE FOR THE GOOD OF THE COUNTRY AS A WHOLE FOR THE LONG RUN. I heard that Warren gave both candidates the 3 people question as well as the greatest failing one before the debate. It’s quite amazing that BO wasn’t able to come up with a more compelling answer to the 3 people one since he had lots of time to mull it over. Bottom line, in my eyes, is that Obama embodies the corruption of the american public and youth. He is all that is wrong with this country. I want to have faith that people will see through him, but I don’t think its going to happen. America has become lazy and reactionary. They no longer want to think. I occasionally go over to TM just to see what the current thread is. But from a few visits, she [herself] doesn’t seem to be a kool-aide pom-pom girl. After the forum, she wrote a rather sobering piece that Obama would need to get a debate tutor because his performance Saturday night wasn’t going to cut it in the general election.
Or maybe, she’s just picking up the general vibe right now. There’s been a definite shift of sentiment and unlike the tilt at the very end of the Democratic primary, this campaign still has several months to go. Even the Obamatrons sound strangely “rattled,” particularly with Obambi’s expense sheet–how much they’ve spent for so little return at the polls.
Should be very, very interesting as the weeks and months progress!
The “vibe” is that even his fairly enthused supporters are worried about his polling numbers.
Kerry was in better shape at this stage, hell, Dukakis was in great shape at this time.
Obama can’t bust loose. It’s because the guy says things that make him sound like he thinks America sucks. We don’t like that as a nation. Sure, we aren’t perfect, but we don’t suck, and better days are ahead. He comes off like a whiney, bossy, hectoring, complainer all the time. Snippy, short, irritable.
Who needs that crap in a national leader? It’s one thing to gripe about how things are at home, in relative domestic privacy, amongst friends and relatives, and talk about how we’re going to take on issues and make things better, but to prance off to Europe and suggest that he’s “The One” to fix relationships at home and around the globe, like he’s some kind of an international Doctor Phil? PLEASE. No one likes THAT asshole, either!
The Cultists should be rattled. They bought the trendy and glittering one, instead of the plainer, older one made of true gold. And now, they can’t find their receipt for a return/exchange. I have no empathy for them. They made this mess; it’s their fault.

It’s like spending a lot of money to train a dwarf to get him ready for Olympic trials for the 100m sprint. Money won’t do the trick, when substance isn’t there.

I mean there can’t really be 2 people who draw crosses in the dirt, right?
i think ummm (obama c+ bucket) is pissed off that anyone in the world would use the wrong sign for the messiah. Its no longer a cross its a big O.
