Obama Guarantees Victory and Nancy Pelosi Gives All Credit to God

From Politico.com:

A confident Barack Obama raised an extraordinary $7.8 million Sunday at three California fundraisers, most if it in large checks to a Democratic Party committee.

I will win. Don’t worry about that,” he said to the crowd of about 1,300 at his third event of the evening, according to the pool report.

He was warmly received by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who called him “a leader that God has blessed us with at this time.”

How extraordinarily delusional is that. And God’s blessing will no doubt come as a surprise to the millions of Republicans who are devoutly religious, but who feel that Mr. Obama is a curse, not a blessing.

Come to think of it, Thomas Jefferson might object as well.

If there is indeed an afterlife, let us hope — for the sake of our Founding Fathers — that it precludes the ability to observe what is going on in the United States at this time.

For the sake of Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson, I hope that there are countless angels surrounding and doting on both men.

For the sake of John Adams, I hope there are plenty of disagreeable sorts with whom he can have cantankerous debates.

And, for the sake of all, I hope our nation’s dearly departed cannot see that the great country that they so bravely created is regressing.

same for CNBC, they had olympic coverage on all NBC channels

Jeff Immelt was on CNBC this morning touting the success of the Olympic coverage and the decoupling (now commonly referred to as utter BS theory) of the global economies form the US as being factors that will raise GE performance (which has sucked)

I have been boycotting every news channel except FOX. I saw their shows tonite and thought parts of it were great, expecially Hannity and Colmes when they did the review of the Faith Forum. The show about the rise of Barry Soetoro was a lot of soundbites if you ask me. There was a whole lot more that they could have and should have said about Barry, they did not even mention his connections with Ayers and family, and glossed over the relationship he has with Rezko. That part especially was not talked about in much depth at all and it should have been. Whatever happened to investigative journalism?

I doubt Botox Nancy found Jesus. The Republicans were quiet about their faith all these years. Some amoral whack job like Pelosi getting all profound and metaphysical is just sickening.

“And Jesus said, bring the little children to me. If they are in any way defective or nonviable, if the mother feels punished, and they survive an abortion, then stab them in the head with scissors.”

I am no fan of Nancy Pelosi. But commenting on a woman’s looks, or a man’s as well, is not helpful to our cause. There is too much else that could have been said about her. Taking potshots like this is not even necessary and is too easy. We are smarter than that.

Comment by s. hall | 2008-08-19 02:02:02

The softball handling will continue until the day after the convention. Then you can expect the full court press by Fox. They will slam him hard and repeatedly leading up until a few days before the election, and then the last 2 days expect all of the truth to come out. He will be lucky to avoid prison on election day let alone have any prayer of winning.

Thomas Jefferson is quoted as saying:

“Single acts of tyranny may be ascribed to the accidental opinion
of the day; but a series of oppressions, begun at a distinguished
period, and pursued unalterably through every change of ministers
(adminstrators) too plainly proves a deliberate, systematic plan
of reducing us to slavery.”

The simple acts of tyranny would be the caucuses and bullying of delegates and super delegates, voter suppression and intimidation.

Reducing us to slavery is equivalent to loosing the democratic principles of our country. IMHO, Bush and the lame congress have paved the way for major problems for our democratic republic…

Thomas Jefferson would be calling for a revolution. He would be a PUMA.

Comment by PumaPastor | 2008-08-19 06:17:03

The viewing of freedom and security as “either/or” choices has clearly left us with policies that reflect neither our religious nor political heritage. The current war in Iraq is neither liberal nor conservative: it has merely provided the motives and means for corporate robber barons to steal from rather than deal with any nation under God.

The right would have us believe we should hold corporations free and individuals accountable; the left would have us believe we should hold individuals free and corporations accountable. Either option views freedom and security as adversaries rather than as allies. Each alternative, alike, misleads us into believing that we are just embodied souls that need to escape the curses of a world made evil; they just differ in the directions they take in order to execute their means of escape.

Both approaches, unfortunately address us, as the electorate, as objects of force – be it a push or a pull – rather than as agents of our own destiny. Faith is much bigger that that. It believes that we should neither be pushed into blindly obeying conventions of the past; nor should we be pulled willy-nilly into any movement without some assurances as to our future.

Our Faith says individuals and corporations alike should be free to be accountable and accountable to be free. Sure there are ways in which we, as a people, need to address our responsibilities to uphold one another’s liberty. The reasons why we do so have less to do with being embodied souls and more to do with being ensouled bodies. The reasons why we do so should have less to do with escaping that curses of world that’s evil and more to do with participating in the blessings of a world worth saving.

Comment by Karma | 2008-08-18 22:53:21

The other day Anderson Cooper was doing this Veepstakes segment with the pros and cons of Hillary as VP with Bill as baggage.

He also stated that people hang on the Clinton’s every word trying to find the meaning of what is said and what isn’t said.

Despite being the One….

Obama still doesn’t capture that type of attention. With this most recent debate once again highlighting the obvious. He can’t speak without a rehearsed speech…so clearly he is busy practicing that convention speech.

Since Obama is actually saying less now then when he first started running. Taking no brave stances and showing he hasn’t made effective use of his time to learn anything new.

Once again he has to attack through MSNBC and smear a trusted spiritual advisor to millions in the process. To divert attention from his failure to prepare for the debate. Rick Warren is getting his version of the Obama
‘flip off and brush off’. Like he did after the Hillary debate thumping.

Here they are trying to pander to God and Obama just threw them under the bus calling their debate into question. Who is going to be left to vote for him?
