Who Is Playing The Race Card Now?

webelephant-cartoon_edited.jpgWho is playing the race card now? None other than Howard Dean. He plays the race card in an National Public Radio (NPR) interview on Friday. And then quickly reversed himself with an “ahem, I didn’t mean to say that”! He had essentially called the Republican Party “a white elephant” .

Dean had this to say, “Our party has been a no-majority party for a long time. The fact is that the Democratic Party is made up of lots of different people” and “If you look at folks of color, even women, they’re more successful in the Democratic Party than they are in the white — excuse me — in the Republican Party.”

And here are Dean’s words recorded for posterity’s sake:

Newsbusters takes it a step further, it is revealed that this is not the first time Dean has used the race card. Here are his words again, not too far in the past either. (And we wonder why Obama uses the “race card and often, his learned this at the knee of his mentor, Dean!)

Also, it should be noted that this isn’t the only time Dean sought to divisively use race in his rhetoric by calling the GOP a “white” party. In 2005, Dean made a similar comment about the GOP when in San Francisco saying, “They all behave the same. They all look the same. It’s pretty much a white Christian party.”

Back in 2004, Dean also said that the only way to solve racism is to “educate” whites. “Dealing with race is about educating white folks,” Dean was reported as having said as he attempted to “call out the white population” during the 2004 Primaries. Also in 2004, Dean told a crowd that he intended to tell the “white boys who run the Republican Party” to stay out of people’s bedrooms.

Warner Todd Huston did a comparison of the Democratic Party leadership and Bush’s White House gang. This is what he found.

On a page of the Democratic Party website there is a page called “Democratic Leaders” and there one can see many faces. There’s Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), DNC Chairman Howard “Whitey” Dean himself, along with several other officers of the Party. These are the Party movers and shakers. Of the 16 people mentioned 15 are white and one, Vice Chair Lottie Shackelford, is black.

I, for one, am bowled over by the “diversity.”

By comparison, need we remind everyone about the racial diversity of George W. Bush’s cabinet? Colin Powell, Condi Rice, Elaine Chao, and several other representatives of America’s minorities have made their mark there. Heck, even as far back as 1928 the Republicans put a man of American Indian lineage into the vice presidency. Charles Curtis, who’s mother was a Kaw Indian and who grew up with his maternal grandparents, was the VP under Herbert Hoover.

The Republicans hit back though, appropriately it seems. First a statement by John McCain’s adviser, Carly Fiorina, condemning the comment.

“It is disappointing to see Howard Dean trying to use gender and race to divide voters. His comments are insulting, inappropriate and have no place in this election,” she said.

And Republican National Committee Chairman Mike Duncan added:

“Howard Dean’s comments on race and gender today are disappointing and wrong. His efforts to divide Americans are an insult to all our nations citizens and have absolutely no place in the national dialogue.”

Huston said this as well:

Now, this incident happened in the afternoon of Friday, August 15 and thus far there has been little coverage of Dean’s newest “whitey” comment. The Old Media seems to have taken a pass on Dean’s latest effort at race baiting.

Of course, if it were a Republican that had brought up race in any way whatsoever, it would be leading every telecast and be emblazoned on the front page of every paper in the country.

Fortunately for the citizens of this country Huston’s assertions are incorrect. The Dean “race card” was covered more than adequately. Read more on this here, here and here.

“….even Women…..” That got to show the mindset of the Democratic Party leaders, that is why they treated Sen. Hillary Clinton the way they treated her.

Most likely, Dr. Howars Dean has no understanding of what he did. That is why DNC has been losig the federal election years after President Bill Clinton era.

Comment by Nicole | 2008-08-18 08:21:02

I find it so ironic that a “white man” feels compelled to tell the “white men” of the GOP that they should “stay out of people’s bedroom.” Dean’s a jerk, and not even an eloquent one–nor is he original. In the mid-1960s, it was a young and brilliant and extremely articulate polititican–Pierre Elliot Trudeau–Canada’s then Justice Minister, who famously said (while de-criminalizing homosexuality), that “The state has no business in the bedrooms of the nation.”

Dean is an ersatz version of a truly great, progressive politician.

I hope the identity politics and race baiting of the Democratic party really comes back to bite them in the ass this year. I was a Democrat until May 31st, but seeing how the race card is used to deflect any criticism, I am disgusted by them and want them to lose decidedly this year.
They don’t really want to help the average person. They want to keep voting blocs in their corner by using fear and intimidation. FOr women they have row v Wade which they have never tried to protect with legislation. Every 4 years they use the fear of supreme court nominations to get women to vote Democrat, but they never push for legislation that would make the SCOTUS appointment irrelevant.
FOr black people they use the fear of whitey. The big bad racist Republicans want to re-enslave you. However, when you look at it objectively, it seems the Democrats and AAs own leaders are the ones that want to keep them dependent.

Demmcrats are a joke. They can’t govern.

The inept Obama campaign has produced an electoral race that is turning into a cliffhanger. If you go to the Real Clear Politics electoral map, http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/maps/obama_vs_mccain/
you’ll see what looks like a healthy Obama lead. But press the button on top that eliminates the toss up states and allocates them according to the current leads, even though the margins are in some cases razor thin. Then you see Obama has a 275 to 263 EV lead. The “swing” state that stands out is Indiana — won by Bush decisively twice. If you look at the figures, though, there are no recent polls — a two month old poll of just over 600 respondents gave Obama a 1% lead. Think that’s going to hold up in Indiana, which traditionally goes Republican in presidential contests? Indiana’s 11 electoral votes, if flipped to McCain, give him the edge.

Of course all this would be solved if Hillary was the nominee.

Comment by Gloria | 2008-08-18 07:49:58

Re: Solved by Hillary as the nominee..

Sigh…Maybe not at this point. I’m afraid Obama and Co. have done so much damage to the Democratic brand that even Hillary would lose…She should be running from this guy as fast as possible….

Comment by katmandu | 2008-08-18 08:15:40

He has done a lot of damage, agreed. And I do not think she should accept a VP slot even if offered. I know many people feel strongly that she should be the VP nominee, but I think she should just stay away from the guy.

I’d add that another theme the Obama crowd is pushing is Cindy McCain’s wealth. (Never mind that she has done a lot of philanthropy work.) They’re forgetting Teresa Heinz’s wealth.
A few words on Cindy McCain. According to Wikipedia,

“By 2007, she had an annual income of over $400,000 from Hensley & Co. and an estimated net worth of $100 million. She also owned at least $1 million worth of shares of Anheuser-Busch stock.”

Now let’s go to the Wiki for John Kerry’s spouse:

“To date, Teresa Heinz has declined to disclose her personal tax returns, citing family trusts and privacy. She is estimated to be worth between $750 million and $1.2 billion. According to her most recently released income tax of 2003, the Kerry and Heinz paid an effective federal income tax rate of 12%. Most of her income was derived from tax-free municipal bonds, which explains the low rate.

Both Teresa and her husband live an affluent life. Together they enjoy five homes at notable addresses. These include a six-floor, $7 million townhome in Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood, a $9 million ocean-front home on Nantucket, a $5 million ski retreat in Idaho, a $4 million estate in Fox Chapel, Pennsylvania near the Heinz family’s home base of Pittsburgh, and a $5 million home in Washington, D.C.’s Georgetown neighborhood. The couple also owns a $1 million yacht and a $35 million Gulf Stream Jet; it should be noted that the Heinz family owns most of these properties.”

The fact that someone has money is in no way a moral blemish, unless that got it in a disreputable way. Teresa Heinz got it because her ancestors sold a good brand of ketchup. Cindy McCain’s father sold Budweiser. Nothing wrong with any of that. Their families’ produced products we enjoy. And both spouses of the candidates have been active in charity work.

Comment by bmc | 2008-08-18 09:14:16

And, how much is George Soros worth? And, I forget, just HOW did he get that wealth? Look it up. It wasn’t pretty. Now, I have nothing against George Soros, or Bill Gates, or Warren Buffet or any of those people just because of their wealth. Likewise, Teresa Heinz-Kerry.

It infuriates me that Democrats are trying to use such a pointless, ridiculous class-war tactic, when the only people they are ripping off doing it is lower-income and middle income people.

They’re just such hypocrites it makes me sick. I don’t want to hear about Cindy McCain’s wealth, and it only makes me more inclined to vote for McCain to see the Democratic Party try to use it against McCain. It’s ridiculous; it’s stupid; and it doesn’t do a damn thing to help the middle class or lower-income people! So, that just infuriates me.

STOP IT.

Comment by Newly Independent | 2008-08-18 12:20:29

“It infuriates me that Democrats are trying to use such a pointless, ridiculous class-war tactic, when the only people they are ripping off doing it is lower-income and middle income people.”

They’re hypocritical scum. And desperate.

They had NO issues with Theresa Heinz-Kerry’s wealth in 2004, so they need to shut up about Cindy McCain’s wealth. Besides, John McCain is running for President - not Cindy.

Those Obama dems are elitist scum who are quickly trying to paint themselves as “everyday” people in a vain attempt to keep from losing the White House in November.

Comment by kcfromtx | 2008-08-18 09:48:49

Teresa Heinz did not get her money from her ancestors selling ketchup! She got it from John Heinz, her 1st husband who died in a helicopter crash while a Republican Senator from Pennsylvania. She was left the grieving, rich widow and Kerry swooped in.

I really HATE to say this, but I agree with Gloria. The Dem brand has suffered from Obambi’s work that even Hillary would have a very hard time, at this point. Had the party leaders(such as they are) come to their senses earlier, there may have been time to negate BHO’s mistakes. It is probably too late now. I hope it isn’t the case and that she gets nominated and wins. But, hey, I am an optimist, usually wrong but still hope for the best. Hillary should beat feet real quickly and take Bill with her. After Obambi loses, they can come out and help us fix this party. They may be the only ones who can.

Indiana has not went Democrat for President since 1964 and it won’t be this year either.

This was Dean’s plan all along — get this inexperienced candidate in at all costs. He’s inexperienced enough, he’ll never get vetted in time of the elections. If there’s criticism of that fact, blame it on racism, and get him in through white guilt.

This is plain stupid and divisive and evil.

What the SuperDelegates should do is put Hillary over the top and then force Obama on her as vice president. Then they can say that Obama doesn’t have Clinton’s experience on a national level but in the VP spot he’s a fresh face, will ensure freshness in a new administration. He’s the “next generation.” He’ll get experience meantime to be he next President.

That’s what they should have done, and there’s still time.

Apparently Obama has introduced Dean to Wright and Phleger — now Dean lustfully plays the white guilt card that he thinks is the “in-thing” to do and opines in his small brain that more people will flock to Obama due to Dean laying on the guilt trip.

I have news for Dean, and you Obamacraps who monitor this site can pass this information on to that pig. Don’t take me for granted. Stuff that everyone already knows–just a reminder

Remember the S Carolina primary (and not SC only)? The Obama “Hoodwink and Bamboozle” speeches to remind, rekindle, and rile the black voters? Who is the “OPRESSOR”? WHITEY’ Bad America! Obama used that tactic before each state primary with large numbers of AA voters. It works for Obama and Dean thinks it will work in Denver as a reminder to those Super Delegates , the misogynists and Hillary haters, who have been bought and paid for by the Obama camp, not to even mention the leftists Socialists bastards.

In 1946 Saul Alinski wrote his handbook “Reveille for Radicals”. In his handbook Alinski says “An organizer must fan the ‘LATENT HOSTILITIES’ and he must ‘SEARCH OUT CONTROVERSY’ and issues, ‘RATHER THAN AVOID THEM’”.

Alinski’s Rule #6– A good tactic is one your people enjoy. “IF YOUR PEOPLE AREN’T HAVING A BALL DOING IT, THERE IS SOMETHING VERY WRONG WITH THE TACTIC”.

Obama, and obviously Howard Dean, love putting salt on old wounds. Obama dusts the dirt from his shoulder and smiles. Obama gives Hillary the finger and smiles. And it seems as if the OBAMACANS are enjoying it to the hilt. Such a revolting bunch of bastards. And , OH YES, Isn’t there the possibility that a floor vote could come up at the Denver Convention? Obviously Howard Dean first and foremost is a hater, of white women in particular.

Comment by hank | 2008-08-18 11:21:42

Yes that Alinski stuff is dangerous and it is Obama’s guiding light. There’s a great article on “community organizing” and what it really is (it ain’t working at soup kitchens). Alinski’s strategy relies on convincing people that they are miserable, that the place they live is miserable, that they are victims of an oppressor which they must overthrow.

Alinski explains why Obama says things like “Help me change this great country.” Wha? If it’s so great then why does it need changing? Having been caught spouting that oxymoron, he modifies it to something more like “Help me return American to its great traditions.”

I’m waiting for someone — anyone? — in the press to ask Obama exactly which great traditions and which time period he has in mind to return us to. Back in the good old days when a slave counted as 3/5 of a white person? Or those lazy hazy crazy days of marches in Selma to get the simple right to vote? Or maybe the 40s when blacks weren’t allowed to play baseball with whites. Or the late 60s when the only images of black people on TV were humiliating caricatures.

Someone needs to ask Obama “which former greatness are you talking about?” If they did they’d find he’s an empty bag of wind, spouting the Alinski party line to make people thing America needs HIS help. In fact for most people of color the U.S. today is the best its ever been and getting better every day.

God what a nincompoop Obama is.

Ok someone got this message and it is a set up to try and unity-grab Hillary supporters as to think that with Hillary’s speech that we all come together and support Obama. What or who does the democratic party think they are or who do they take us for fools! Well we all need to stand up and stand our grounds-Obama is not getting a free past. And there is nothing noone can say-Hillary can not say anything to get us to unity.Obama said”He will get Hillary Supporters”No he won’t-and now they are taking out Hillary’s delegates and replacing them with more for Obama so he won’t look so bad. This is just wrong!

We can not let the democratic party get away with this.If Hillary isn’t the presidential nominne then McCain I will fully support-McCain.The democratic party stole-cheated and took the will of the people who voted for Hillary not just FL/MI in all states who voted for Hillary-Nancy Polsio paid thandsands of dollar each to delegates in the ststaes that Hillary won to put thier support behind Obama-?Huh? WE saw it all from Donna Brazile-May 31,convention-Howard Dean-The stealing of sign in sheets-The stealing of votes-The media lies and the democrativ party lies-I am sick of it! And to think that Denver they think they will play with our feelings and sure they read the blogs as well as here-Sop they will know how and try to work us to fall in line. NODEAL!

DNC CAN KISS MY ASS!!!!!!!!!!!

Hilary for president 08
McCain for president 08

We saw it all-Why let then get away with this,Why.

NOOBAMA NEVER
I will not!

Following is a message I received from Gary Shay. It was nice of him to let me know. Let’s put our efforts where they belong.

She is going to have her name placed in nomination, and then release her delegates, and ask that they vote for Obama.

Hello,

“It’s way above my pay grade,” “I’ll deal with Iran with a big stick and a big carrot,” those are just two of the multitde of pearls of wisdom coming from Obama.

We’ve just had 8 years of an idiot “dictator”. We can’t afford to have another one.

Obama’s change includes trying to change the presidential seal, changing the American flag on his jet to some kind of an Obama logo at a cost of %750,000 (think of all the poor people we could feed with this money), and wanting to tax the hell out of the middle class, the old, the young, the good, the bad, and the ugly - in short everybody.

He went on a worldwide tour and came back with NOTHING OF SUBSTANCE.

In Israel, he scared the Israelis with the dumbest Stick and Carrot speech.
In Germany, he was able to rally up tens of thousands of screaming rock n’ rollers with free concert, wurst and beer. Chancellor, Dr. Angela Merkel shook his hand very briefly and off she went to the Wagner Festival.

I just interviewed with the Japanese TV the equivalent of CNN, and the reporter told me off record that Japan is concerned about North Korea and Obama’s suggestion that he will talk to them and see what’s happening, is of great concern over there.

Please, stay with Hillary. We can’t afford to have a combination of an idiot and a dictator again.
