In Minnesota, Obama Leads By Two

A new Survey USA poll in Minnesota shows Senator Obama leading Senator McCain by two points, 47% to 45%. Since that’s within the margin of error, the race in the Gopher state is effectively a dead heat.

On the plus side for Obama, Minnesota appears one place where Obama does not face a PUMA backlash. PUMA is a wide coalition of anti-Obama forces that coalesced out of the supporters of Senator Clinton. Obama has a comfortable nine point edge among women in Minnesota.

According to a KSTP exclusive new SurveyUSA poll, Barack Obama leads John McCain by two points, 47 to 45 percent in Minnesota.

That’s well within the three-point-eight percent margin of error. Four percent prefer another candidate. Only four percent are undecided.

The poll not only shows a close race, but also points again to Minnesota voters becoming increasingly polarized.

In the poll of 682 “likely voters,” McCain has the support of 89 percent of republicans. Obama garners support from 86 percent of democrats. McCain has a narrow two-point lead among independents.

McCain does have a bit of a gender-gap to contend with. He leads by three points among men, but Obama leads by nine points among women.

No matter how you analyze the numbers, they point to a close race in Minnesota just over 70 days until Election Day.

BREAKING: McCain up by 5 over Obama in monthly national Zogby/Reuters poll:

http://www.reuters.com/article/politicsNews/idUKN1948672420080820?sp=true

This is gigantic. Obama is losing more Dems and is now not even on top when discussing the economy.

It is time to get things made right in Denver.

There’s only one person who can save us now:

Hillary.

This is not surprising. Go on world tour, give a political rally in Germany, then go on vacay is not the way to win an election. Oh yeah, and calling the base to your party names is not a viable plan to win an election.

Comment by Dawnelle Leona del Puma | 2008-08-20 08:39:05

GOOD maybe the SUPERS will SEE this and change their mind before the convention!

Ya think they may grow some spine and vote for the STRONGEST candidate against McCain?

sigh

I’m not holding my breath.

ON a lighter note. I received a note from Cindy S and she’s full steam ahead running against Pelosi. That should please some people here yes? LOL ;-)

Cindy is VERY honest and NOT in it for the money so that puts her head and shoulders above Nancy (sorry) from the GET GO. She’s also got mui spine dudes!
She’s perfect for Pelosi’s district.

I did inform her that I am NOW unaffiliated. We’ll see if I hear back from her. (I’m betting I will)
We’re all waking up to the full reality that neither side is 100 percent right or wrong. It’s the “individual PEOPLE” that make or break their party.

My GOD, that’s…horrific!!

The dip in support for Obama, who would be the first black U.S. president, cut across demographic and ideological lines. He slipped among Catholics, born-again Christians, women, independents and younger voters. He retained the support of more than 90 percent of black voters.

“There were no wild swings, there isn’t one group that is radically different than last month or even two months ago. It was just a steady decline for Obama across the board,” Zogby said.

Obama’s support among voters between the ages of 18 and 29, which had been one of his strengths, slipped 12 percentage points to 52 percent. McCain, who will turn 72 next week, was winning 40 percent of younger voters.
“Those are not the numbers Obama needs to win,” Zogby said about Americans under 30. The 47-year-old is counting on a strong turnout among young voters, a key bloc of support during his primary battle with New York Sen. Hillary Clinton.

And we know how reliable young voters are…ask “Be Clean for Gene” McCarthy…or George McGovern…or Howard Dean.

Minnesota the state that brought us Humphrey and Mondale…..and even THEY don’t really like Barry the Wimp.

Comment by mom2nomads | 2008-08-20 06:03:20

MN is not longer been the Democratic stronghold that it was during the time of Humphrey and Mondale, and has not been for several years, so drawing that comparison is no longer relevant.

Republicans have moved into the state, drawn by the high quality of life (great schools, gorgeous parks, focus on the arts, etc) but do not want to pay the taxes to support that quality of life.

So MN has been tilting more and more to the right, pulling away from the progressive roots that always made it a wonderful place to live. What MN needs is the late, great Senator Paul Wellstone back.

Comment by Isolde | 2008-08-20 06:36:39

Mac is on a roll. He’s found Barry’s glass jaw and thin skin. Fox tonight showing Barry talking to his supporters about the Republican’s “going negative” and that they would fight back. You could see he wasn’t taking the mocking well. Ha, Ha.

Already tried one “negative ad” and the heavy handedness dropped like a bomb…Exxon John is the refrain. Considering that Mac has endorsed all alternatives for solving the energy mess, and Obama is actually limp on the subject (until he copies someone else’s plan…apparently he was talking to T. Boone today) you have to wonder how he’s going to look like anything but the rookie he is.

If they attack him personally…which will be their way, he’ll look even more like the zero he is…no experience compared to long record, hero, etc. The guy has screwed himself. And they will continue to nail him on the vote and his lie about it on live birth abortion. The pro-life contingent is irate over this and they will dog his tracks all the way through. He’s going to lose.

Whate a close-minde statement, you can’t judge someone’s political leanings by their religion, partuclarly in Europe.

Obama is extremely popular here in Ireland, both with Irish and with the Americans who are living here. I cannot wear my Obama t-shirts out without having people stop me and want to talk about the election and, to the person, everyone I talk to from our doctor, to our friends, to strangers on the street, are pulling very strongly for Obama. They hate Bush and they see McCain as more of the same.

The Clintons are very popular here as well and the Irish are well-aware of their views on choice. The Irish are very politically savvy and cannot wait to see the Repulicans out of office.

Comment by Clinton Fan | 2008-08-20 08:33:50

Ah, yes, IRELAND!! Now, that would be one of the fifty seven states, now, would it?

Gee, not a one of my Irish relatives in Galway support Barry O’Bama, not a one! And I’ve a massive family over that way, too! I’ll bet it’s larger than your family in Minnesota! They’re more inclined toward that Mick feller, the one with the Irish surname.

Of course, they can’t vote, as they’re not AMERICAN…so who gives a shit what the cousins across the pond think…eh?

I’d say their “anecdotal evidence” is about as useful as yours…that is to say, it ISN’T USEFUL at all!

:P

Comment by mom2nomads | 2008-08-20 09:04:18

There are tens of thousands and of Americans who live in Ireland, and who will vote in the election.

I honestly don’t care if you believe me or not, makes no difference. But, since I actually live here in Dublin (my husband works for the State Dept) I have a pretty fair idea of how Americans living in Ireland are leaning–towards Obama. And, yea, I’ve got family here as well, in Mayo, who wish they could vote for Obama.

Comment by Obama is a bum | 2008-08-20 09:38:29

What the hell do the Irish know about Obama? Most people are just getting to know him here and everything is negative. The only thing keeping him afloat is the so-called historic event.

Be careful what you ask for, especially when you don’t even understand what you are asking for.

Good thing your Statewide Population Mind Reading machine is in good working order–you’ll need that, since your Irony Meter is so badly broken!

Oh, and based on your posts here, thus far you have scored a firm seven point five on the PUMA FEAR meter! Congratulations!

It would be higher, that score, but you’re plainly lacking in critical awareness skills, which do mitigate your results.

Comment by mom2nomads | 2008-08-20 09:11:24

Yea, you are right. I don’t live in the US right now because my husband is a Foreign Service Officer and, as a State Dept. family, we move frequently.

Right now we happen to be living in Ireland, before that we were in Guinea, in one year my husband will be leaving for a year in Iraq. So I would say your judgment of my awareness of American politics is very, very misplaced. We stay very educated about what is happening in our country, we keep our family very connected and our children know, despite our overseas life, they are American.

And, BTW, I maintain that personal insults such as the kind you make are what people do to make up for weak arguments. But nice try.

Comment by Eidnoreid | 2008-08-20 10:36:19

You mean the Ireland that was defeated by the British and now is part of Great Britain? Ireland?

I’ve known quite a few Irish and Irish Americans. They are catholic, they drink for any reason and they make a great stew amd throw great parties, but their political savvy has been rather limited, including the fiasco of the catholic/protestant wars that lasted about 100 years too long.

So the irish are weighing in on Obama? Who cares! And when Obama loses they’ll still all sit in the pub and drink to his defeat! Gotta love the Irish!

Comment by mom2nomads | 2008-08-20 13:49:43

I would like to know where you are getting your history. Ireland, as in “The Republic of” is not “part of Great Brtitain.” They gained their independence in the 1920s. My God. If I had been talking about the North of Ireland I would have said that. And, BTW, Gerry Adams is one of the most politically savvy politicians of our time. Before you start slamming how other countries conduct their politics you might try learning something about them first.

And it is appalling to read that some Americans have such negative stereotypes of the Irish, still. Have you ever heard of the Nativist movement (I’ll give you a hint, they were an anti-Catholic, anti-Irish group in America)? You might check them out because it sounds like you would fit right in, Why don’t you try traveling a little bit, break out of your bubble, Buzz, and get to know the world beyond your stereotypes.

And, BTW, before the Bush Ad. we used to care about what the rest of the world thought of us. Aren’t you supposed to be a Clinton supporter? Don’t you know that the Clinton’s actually do care about how we, as Americans, are viewed by other countries?

(Comments wont nest below this level)

MN Republicans and Democrats work for the betterment of their state and its citizens. There is clean government here. Not the slimy, legislate for bribes that exists in Chicago.

Comment by C.S. | 2008-08-20 07:54:45

Oookay…but you might want to review what happened to one of your most progressive and popular senators, Paul Wellstone, who was targeted by the Republican party in the 2002 election as a candidate they must defeat.

I’m sure you remember that Senator Wellstone died in a plane crash 11 days before the election and according to Minnesota law his name was removed from the ballot and replaced with former Vice President Walter Mondale - not exactly an unknown candidate - selected by the Democratic party.

And in spite of Rick Kahn, and others, urging Minnesota voters to “win one for Wellstone” by voting for the Democratic nominee you elected Republican Norm Colman.

Colman was the mayor of St.Paul, the guy who lost to Jesse Ventura and the Republican choice to replace Wellstone. Mainstream media reported that the Republican party was so determined to defeat Wellstone that they threw as much money into the race as Obama did to “buy” his selection. It appeares that Minnesota has “followed the money” trail before Obama. Same old party politics.

Comment by mom2nomads | 2008-08-20 08:16:39

Senator Wellstone had a very wide appeal, he appealed to both hardcore Dems and to moderate Republicans and Independents. While Republicans did not agree with his progressive poltics they knew he was a stand-up man with integrity to spare. They knew that he was a fighter for the people, so they voted for someone who they knew was always true to his word. Integrity matters in MN.

Moi’s post above is right, MN politics has always been clean. I remember very clearly the moment that I learned of Senator Wellstone’s death because I knew our state had lost a champion. I believe, to this day, that he would have won his seat hands down. While Mondale is obviously a home-grown MN Dem he did not have the same kind of wide-appeal.

I believe that all the Dems of MN will do the right thing come the GE and vote for Obama.

Comment by Clinton Fan | 2008-08-20 08:55:15

Are you insane? An idiot? Or simply BRAZEN?

Obama flipflops, all the time. Wellstone was a man who ALWAYS kept his word.

Wellstone was a dyed-in-the-wool LIBERAL; Obama is a closeted, gay-loathing Republican-Except-In-Name with a fake veneer of “Yes We Can” and pretty brown skin to hide the vicious, corporatist GOP-ness of his worldview.

And Wellstone’s DFL stance was as far away from Obama’s Pragmatic Bullshitter stance as is possible to be and still be on the same frigging planet!

Obama is like Wellstone as a fish is like a bicycle.

How do you manage to get out of bed each day and feed and clothe yourself, burdened as you are with that low level of intelligence?

You definitely are a troll, we know that, and find that kind of funny, but that post shows you to be a really dumb one. And we don’t honor ABJECT STUPIDITY around here, “Sweetie.” You’ll have to head over to Team O to get some love for that!

Mitt Romney has the mormon baggage and it would be best for McCain to stay away from him as VP. Romney would be better in a cabinet position.

The best case scenario would be to have Hillary be the nominee or a McCain/Clinton ticket. But that change may be too radial for many.

Zogby does favor Obama - too much - and so the picture may actually be worse for Obama than what’s being reported.

I don’t know of anyone who is voting for Obama including our favorite waiter at a cafe who’s 24. He says that Obama is a Mac Daddy and has no business screwing with the United States. So there’s at least one of Obama’s base that is flying the bird at Obama.

There are PUMAs in Minnesota - doing what we can, but our Feb. caucus on a cold night with Obamats filling parking lots early made it tough - then most SDs caved even though they know caucus outcome didn’t represent most of Dems in state.

Bottom line - if you want to focus on a MN SD, contact Senator Amy Klobuchar who won because PUMA people were there for her 2 years ago. But Obama PAC gave her $10,000 this year and she drank the kool aid. Tell her “for shame” and urge her to support Clinton in Denver.

Watch this video entitled: “Bought and Paid For!”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a593lfawFBU

Why should Super Delegates (SDs) turn their backs on their constituents?

Because Nancy Pelosi, a big Obama supporter, with her “PAC for the Future” is bribing SDs with PAC money!

Watch the video and see if a delegate in your state is on-the-take. Clinton won in their districts and states. Yet the Super Delegates, exposed in this video, sold their souls to the deveil for $10,000 and committed to Obama.

Go to

http://www.lobbydelegates.com

and tell your state delegates what you think about them selling you out for $10,000! Here’s the list:

John Adler NJ
Jason Altmire PA
Andre Carson IN
Joe Donnelly IN
Gabrielle Giffords AZ
Baron Hill IN
Ron Klein FL
Nick Lampson TX
Tim Mahoney FL
Jerry McNerney CA
Harry Mitchell AZ
PAtrick Murphy PA
Joe Sestak PA
Carol Shea Porter NH
Zack Space OH
Niki Tsongas MA

PUMAs are taking note and will remember!

Obama is absolutely hemorrhaging support in every poll. He is going to lose this election, and at the current pace, he may lose it very, very badly.

I was looking at the past maps to.

Its a shame the DNC at Baracebaitor Odalilama’s behest tarred and fethered Bill Clinton.

He was the only successful Democrat to redraw the electoral map…another one of Barky Oblowhards promises that he can’t deliver on.

Also…wow…Reagan term 2 was a BLOW OUT! I forgot how bad it was. Nobody talks about that one…granted it was a very popular president but my god how embarassing for the DNC.

Guess they just love to lose.

Oh Well..OBAMA/Soebelis 08!! GO GO GO
Go Down in a flameing ball of OOPS they Screwed up again!!

Personally I am hoping he outdoes the McGovern record of 38%. I want this hoax to be righteously embarrassed into obscurity.

Then Barry Soetoro can go to Kenya and build a house for his Kenyan Grandmother. And he can dream of his daddy — or make up more stories.

Just GO Barry — go away.

And the good thing about that, or one of the many good things about that is, besides taking Dean, Brazile, Pelosi, and Reid he’ll also take James Roosevelt, Alice Travis Germond, Susan Turnbull, Don and Carol Fowler, Ward and a lot of those other snots on the DNC with him - They can’t hide any more. And Allan Katz who didn’t realize after May 31 they would hold their annual R&B Committee reunions in “Dante’s seventh circle of hell”.

Except I need a list of their names and how they voted. Especially if they have a little tools that tells them every their name is mentioned on the Internet.

Too bad for Barky there won’t be any caucuses on Election Day.

Comment by Jeremiah God Damn Amerikkka Wright | 2008-08-20 04:19:42

I think we should be more concerned about mail in ballots + walk in votes from dead people…thats how they play in chicago.

Comment by Betty | 2008-08-20 08:05:25

That is why it can’t be a close election. We need to landslide McCain.

Here is another huge concern. Obama, even if he doesn’t win enough electoral votes, can be “CHOOSEN” by the electors as our president. Just like what the DNC did.
Read about the Electoral College.

After Election Day, on the first Monday after the second Wednesday in December, these electors assemble in their state capitals, cast their ballots, and officially select the next President of the United States. Legally, the electors may vote for someone other than the candidate for whom they were pledged to vote. This phenomenon is known as the “unfaithful” or “faithless” elector. Generally, this does not happen. Here are 2 sites to read about it

http://www.archives.gov/federal-register/electoral-college/laws.html

Does anyone have any more information about Stephanie Tubbs Jones? MSN is reporting she is in the hospital and her family has requested no information be released. Hope she’ll be ok. She is so wonderful and courageous. While so many were busy selling their souls to make a deal with the devil, she managed to keep her integrity in the face of threats and harrasment.

Uppity,
There’s a post at Clinton dems. com trashing PUMA by some delegates, who are unhappy with us.
Go get it.

MSNBC is replacing Dan Abrams from his 9 p.m. program with Obamabot R. Maddow. Dan Abrams was at last semi neural and seems have to pay for it. But now MSNBC will have Olbermann-Maddow block from September 8. Guess they are really scary LoL

Calling Obama an empty suit is an insult to clothes hangers everywhere.

Comment by John | 2008-08-20 06:59:05

Maddow’s been auditioning for that spot for over a year. She’s basically blown off her Air America “duties” to spend an hour kissing Obama’s butt on television, an hour which has been simulcast on AA.

I guess MSNBC figures it wants a lineup set up to trash President McCain on a daily basis.

Comment by NoTrollZone | 2008-08-20 09:03:06

since i only have one word to describe the piece of filth that is maddow, and it is a word I never use, even in the heat of anger, I can comment no further.
