THE NEW DEMOCRATIC PARTY–CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN!

THE NEW DEMOCRATIC PARTY–CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN!
Posted by: The Divine Democrat (Mary Ellen)

“If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun”–Barrack Obama/June 2008

Yup, the Democratic National Committee has outdone themselves with their preparations for their upcoming National Convention in a few weeks. They thought of everything… balloons, barbed wire cages, confetti, stun guns, and those funny hats we all love to see! The Convention will also have lot of speeches extolling the lofty visions of civil rights and personal liberties the Democratic party is so fond of protecting, you know, liberties like free speech, the right to protest, that kind warm and fuzzy democracy stuff. My heart just swells with pride when I read this stuff on their blog:
& lt;h3>The Democratic Vision
The Democratic Party is committed to keeping our nation safe and expanding opportunity for every American. That commitment is reflected in an agenda that emphasizes the security of our nation, strong economic growth, affordable health care for all Americans, retirement security, honest government, and civil rights.

Civil Rights

On every civil rights issue, Democrats have led the fight. We support vigorous enforcement of existing laws, and remain committed to protecting fundamental civil rights in America.

The Party Platform

The Democratic Party has a long and proud history of representing and protecting the interests of working Americans and guaranteeing personal liberties for all. One of the places we articulate our beliefs is in the Party’s National Platform, adopted every four years by the Delegates at the National Convention.

Wait…did someone say something about stun guns and cages? No, that can’t be…not the party of freedom and liberty!

The problem is, old Howie didn’t think this through…he didn’t think that rounding up hundreds or thousands of protesters and throwing them in a barbed wire cage in a warehouse on the outskirts of town might not be the message they want to send to those wanting to donate to their party . Not to mention, it goes against all those so-called principals and “visions” of theirs. He also didn’t think his dirty little secret about these cages would be made public.

Damned reporters! Damned free speech!

Not to worry, Howard Dean has this all figured out, he’ll let the Denver Police handle this. They will be passing out flyer’s to all the protesters so they can be told of their rights. So, there ya go! The pretty little piece of paper says we DO have rights to protest! Ain’t America great?

YOUR RIGHTS TO DEMONSTRATE AND PROTEST

Can my free speech rights be restricted
because of what I want to say – even if it’s
controversial ?

No. The First Amendment prohibits
restrictions based on the content of speech.
Police and government officials are allowed
to place non-discriminatory and narrowly
drawn “time, place and manner” restrictions
on the exercise of First Amendment rights.

Where can I engage in free speech activity?

Generally, all types of expression are
constitutionally protected in traditional
“public forums” such as public sidewalks
and parks. Public streets can be used for
marches subject to compliance with the
City’s permitting process.

Where can you engage in free speech activity? Anywhere you want as long as you freely state that you are going to vote for Obama, otherwise…get in the cage until you’re ready to act like an American, dammit!

Let’s see what other rights the demonstrators will have….

What other types of free speech activity are
constitutionally protected?

The First Amendment can, under certain
circumstances
, protect communication such
as theater, music, film and dance. Symbolic
acts and civil disobedience that involve
illegal conduct may be outside the realm of
constitutional protection and may lead to
0Acitation and/or arrest. This may include, but
is not limited to, blocking streets, sidewalks
or parades or disrupting public assemblies.

Hmmm…so it sounds like a large group of people protesting could not be on the streets or the sidewalks or they can given a citation/and or arrest. So, they have two choices. They can either levitate so they’re not on the streets or sidewalks, or come wearing costumes and tell the cops they’re doing street theater.

Can I be cited or arrested during a

demonstration?

Yes, if you engage in unlawful behavior
including, but not limited to, such as
blocking streets, sidewalks or parades,
disrupting public assemblies or ignoring
lawful orders to disperse.

Okey-Dokey, so unlawful behavior is defined as blocking streets…check, sidewalks or parades…check, disrupting public assemblies…check, or ignoring lawful order to disperse…check. I’ve got it now. Let’s not forget the vague text that arrest is not limited to just that, they can also arrest you if you look like you aren’t “unified” with the DNC. In other words, you have no civil liberties in the eyes of the Denver Police or in the eyes of Howard Dean, Barrack Obama, Donna Brazille, or Nancy Pelosi. Check and double check.

The American Civil Liberties Union seemed to be a bit dismayed. They want to know where the bathrooms are, will the “prisoners” have something to eat or drink (they were not told how long they will hold the protesters in these barbed wire cages), will they have access to their lawyers, and will they have telephones? Details….details, who needs details when you have flyer’s, police in riot gear, and barbed wire cages?

“They pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. *That’s* the *Chicago* way!”-The Untouchables/1987

NOTES ABOUT THE DNC: It seems that after Obama took over the DNC and got his hands on their mailing list, he sent out an e-mail telling Democrats to give to his campaign and not the DNC. Well, since he decided that he didn’t want their public funding, they are now virtually broke. The money they have will barely cover the payroll and a few field advisor’s. There will not be enough cash to be able to fund thousands of field offices, like they have in the past. Ooops! Larry Johnson has a post that tells you all about it.

More bad news for the DNC….

Sen. John McCain has so much spare cash on hand — he collected a record $27 million in July — that the Republican candidate plans to run campaign ads during the networks’ coverage of the Democratic National Convention later this month.

Because Mr. McCain has agreed to accept $84 million in public financing for the general election, the presumptive presidential nominee has only until Sept. 4, when he accepts his party’s nomination, to spend the more than $21 million he has on hand.

“We continue to have record months of fundraising. This is now the fifth month in a row that we have exceeded the month before,” said McCain campaign manager Rick Davis. The candidate’s advertising budget for August is expected to exceed $20 million, he said, and, by the Republican convention, Mr. McCain is on track to spend some $60 million on TV advertising during the whole primary campaign.

Hat tip to Pat Racimora of No Quarter for the info on the Denver Police flyer.

Another hat tip to Uppity Woman who also wrote about Gitmo on the Platte, her blog is always chock full of up to the moment news about this election.

The real question is how much money does Clinton have.

Because from where I’m standing, it seems overwhelmingly more likely that she and not Obama will actually be the nominee.

she will have 88 million ready to go if she gets the nod….at least that is the buzz from a couple of weeks ago.

Comment by scott in jupiter | 2008-08-21 16:11:20

She should choose public financing and not have to worry about money.

Plus the GOP would have wasted tons of cash on barky for nothing.

Denver’s allowing a little bit of pot but very little protest? Freedom of speech is threatening to poor Obama, his bots and the corrupt DNC. WAH!

This ain’t the America I knew.

When in the history of this country have these kind of steps been taken before? This is only a clue as to what an Obama administration will be capable of.

This ain’t the America I knew.

aha, you reminded me of another song. Change the lyrics to Denver, or not, Chicago still FITZZZ.

Graham Nash on the Chicago ‘68 Convention.

Can we all say another album title? Déjà Vu!

So your brother’s bound and gagged
And they’ve chained him to a chair
Won’t you please come to Chicago
Just to sing

In a land that’s known as freedom
How can such a thing be fair
Won’t you please come to Chicago
For the help that we can bring
We can change the world
Re-arrange the world It’s dying … to get better

Politicians sit yourselves down
There’s nothing for you here
Won’t you please come to Chicago
For a ride

Don’t ask Jack to help you
‘Cause he’ll turn the other ear
Won’t you please come to Chicago
Or else join the other side

We can change the world Re-arrange the world
It’s dying … if you believe in justice
It’s dying … and if you believe in freedom
It’s dying … let a man live his own life
It’s dying … rules and regulations, who needs them
Throw them out the door

Somehow people must be free
I hope the day comes soon
Won’t you please come to Chicago
Show your face
From the bottom of the ocean
To the mountains on the moon
Won’t you please come to Chicago
No one else can take your place

Great post DD,

Prayers for your family emergency.

… the 20th century has been characterized by three developments of great political importance: The growth of democracy, the growth of corporate power, and the growth of corporate propaganda as a means of protecting corporate power against democracy.

Alex Carey

We all know that DNC and the RNC have been corrupted by corporate America. Now our privileges and rights are eroding away as a result…

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Obamabots, fed by the media, went postal over Hillary’s innocent remark about RFK - claiming Hillary wanted Obama ASSASSINATED!
But when Obama exposed his hip hop gang mentality and said - “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun” - the media and Obamabots were silent.

NObama!

You are the one that can make the change.

Not the DNC and no no no no not even Sen. Obama. This USA election.

You have the vote to give the next President the mandate for the next four. It is not about the DNC or RNC.

It is about our country USA. Who will best serve this country? Who has the proven record?

My vote is not for DNC, and definitely not for Sen. Obama.

i will tell you as everyday goes by i like him less and wish this nightmare was over

mr unity is not worth my 25 year friendship so i just bite my tongue…and wish it would all go away

Comment by HARP | 2008-08-21 13:18:08

I don`t wish to ruin your friendship but biting our tongue ia how we ended up with only one 2 term president since FDR

Comment by AnnieCarmel | 2008-08-21 13:59:12

HARP: Exactly. I speak out within my family, two of whom think Obama would be great because 1. He’s young (from the 18y/o) and 2. He’s different (liberal white guilt son-in-law from very elitist wealthy and racist family background). I know, I know, it’s embarrassing. My daughter has her head screwed on straight though. We challenge their positions as often as possible. I think we may make headway before November.

OTOH, I have one 40 year and two 30 year friendships on suspension. It is shocking to me that these people have returned to the old leftist positions of the past. I matured and grew and don’t see myself as I was in the 60’s…and I was about as radical as anyone back then…ah The Yute! I never in a million years thought I’d see what is happening now from the Democratic Party. However, I have learned that you have to keep your mind open and be ready to respond to what’s in front of you, let go when your prior assumptions are proven to be false, and as most of us have, move forward…regardless of what gets left behind. Sometimes you find out that you’ve outgrown old associations. No hard feelings…and as the Brits said WWII: “Keep Calm and Carry On”.

Comment by AnnieCarmel | 2008-08-21 14:01:34

sorry, said in WWII…

Well, accordingly, the Obama campaign is looking to register new voters who want to vote for him. This way they can counter the Base of the Dem’s (Blue Collar, Middle Class, Hispanics, Seniors, Non Falling in Line Hillary supporters, and YES, those Racists that are out there too) that is unhappy with his flip flopping, dirty campaigning of smearing, race card playing and baiting, inexperience and sell out to corporations.

Someone said their goal is to increase voters by 5 percent of whom turned out in the last election.

I guess the timing of ACORN isn’t so good, huh?

Comment by jadwiga | 2008-08-21 13:31:15

As of now the Catholics are under the bus too.

Comment by Peggy Sue | 2008-08-21 15:49:33

The Catholics went under the bus when they started sliding for McCain [an 11% advantage now], which overcame Obama’s 11-12% lead coming out of the primaries. Considering there are approx. 65 million Catholics in this country, that’s a hefty number of people.

Think Obama better switch to a super-sized tank at this rate! And some sort of camouflage. It’s getting harder and harder to hide the disowned and disaffected.

Comment by PamFlorida | 2008-08-21 13:15:34

Are there going to be pro-Obama and anti-Hillary demonstrations? If so, where will they be allowed to gather? Will it be in the designated “Free Speech Zone”-you know, the fenced in area 2 football fields away from the convention center? Will they be arrested for the same violations as pro-Hillary and anti-Obama supporters?
BTW-the Denver police have removed the barbed wire from the warehouse cages. It’s being replaced with “roofs” made of fencing.

They should be handed out, with PUMA embossed.
They’d make excellent momentos from the convention where HRC became the democratic nominee.

Comment by Doris T. | 2008-08-21 14:44:03

Well, the way the Denver convention is being held is a perfect example of how where a child grows up will influence them for the rest of their lives.

What Obama learned in the four years that he lived in the police state of Indonesia, is not being put to good use. The steel cage looks like an interment (sp?) camp to me……

Anyone seeing their freedoms being flushed down the toilet?????????

Comment by dark1p | 2008-08-21 15:07:54

I’m completely anti-cage, but I remember when the cage story broke, it was clearly the decision and action of the Denver Police Department. Is there any evidence that the DNC had anything at all to do with it? I wouldn’t put it past them, but I’d like to have some proof before we go creaming screaming Howard for it.

God knows, he’s responsible for enough crap already…but still.

Let’s see, the new Democratic Party under the leadership of Obama, Dean, Peloski, Reid, Brazille and Kerry are stifling civil rights, endorsing racism, ageism and sexism, and now print the credentials for Obama’s acceptance speech with an upside down American flag.

Flag etiquette states that an upside down flag represents an international symbol of extreme distress. The Obama campaign states the upside down flag is stylized to blend with Obama’s shirt.

See for yourself at:

this is so depressing, voting for fisa, caging protesters, threatening convention goers. What are they thinking? I know they fear the possibility that Barack sticks to his guns and refuses to either step aside or to win, and that the super’s might then vote for HIllary and all heck might break loose, but heck breaks loose at conventions all the time, it’s a convention thang. This country is not what it used to be, and this does represent change, but not the right kind.

Dump that hack Howie, he lost and he wants everyone else to lose too.

Dump Donna, she toasted Gore and she wants to toast every other candidate too.
