Holy shit, and here I was hoping it was a hoax.

This is fucking ricockulous. It makes us Americans look STUPID. Stupider than we did when the UK press plastered Bush’s face on that magazine in ‘04 when he “won”.

Is this real?

ABC wants to appear neutral by banning flag lapel pins.

Comment by btintaos | 2008-08-27 19:13:16

Yes, it’s real. I just saw overhead video of it. The picture on NQ shows it in an incomplete state. The nearly finished stage is more elaborate with an arena stage protruding from the proscenium and a blue moat-like area around it.

I hadn’t heard that. I wouldn’t be surprised, though–him rising out of the stage like the boner he is.

Comment by Monet | 2008-08-27 22:55:51

I’ve read the podium rises from below the stage, but that doesn’t indicate that is how Senator Obama will make his entrance. Riding in on a swan would be much more exciting and awe gasping.

I’ve mentioned before that his campaign reminds me of a Rolling Stones tour. The Obama designer wear, the stadium, lottery to win tickets for Invesco, the world tour and now the stage. It can’t just be a stage, it has to make a statement.

I swear the DNC is using “How to Lose a Sure Thing Presidential Election in Ten Easy Steps” as their bible. First there was the world tour. Now the Invesco fiasco. At a time when Americans are losing their houses, don’t have enough cash in their wallets to fill the gas tank to get the kids to soccer practice and can’t afford to see a doctor for a sinus infection - they’re bringing us ancient Greece in all it’s opulence. How more out of touch can the Democratic party be? Give them a little cake with a flashy show at Invesco and they’ll vote for us.

Why should I believe a man who puts himself in the middle of Ancient Greece to accept his party’s nomination is going to bother himself doing something about health care, education, the energy crisis, the economy, etc.? He’s going to be too busy playing Greek God.

The more I watch this convention the closer I come to marching down to my local Republican office and become a card-carrying Republican. I disagree and don’t support most Republican policies but at a time when too many Americans are trying to decide between paying the electric bill and buying the kids new jeans for school, the Democrats are throwing extravagant wasteful spending in our faces with galas in Berlin and Denver. I wonder how many mortgages that are in trouble right now could have been caught up with the money spent on the galas? How many people with cancer who can’t pay their medical bills could have had their bills paid?

While I put most of the blame our country is in right now on the White House, the Congress has to take responsibility too. They’re supposed to keep the Executive Branch in check and both Democrats and Republicans in Congress have failed to do so.

This convention has become offensive and represents everything that has gone wrong in this country over the past eight years.

Comment by MaryPat | 2008-08-28 01:36:09

This guy is so wrapped up in himself he can’t even see that he is just teeing ‘em up for the Republicans. I love it when the ‘bots talk about how “smart” Barry is. Really? He already tried this crap with the faux presidential seal, and gosh, wasn’t that well-received? He’s a total idiot.

Even better than the “swan entrance” would be Barry riding in on a chariot pulled by a team of beautiful stallions. This whole scene really is like a bad remake of Ben Hur.

Comment by Monet | 2008-08-28 09:38:05

If only Senator Obama could have conservative Charlton “Mr. NRA” Heston driving that chariot for him, introducing and endorsing him. He’d be a sure thing for president then.

Comment by Snickers | 2008-08-27 19:15:20

It is worse than stupid. At a time when we, Americans are scrambling for cash to buy milk or food or gas, when health concerns are rising quicker than a skyscraper, when foreclosures are taking people’s homes and unemployment numbers are increasing, this Presumptuous Candidate and the DNC are repainting a plane, embroidering his name and the word “President” on the back of his airplane seat, and taking a Magical Mystery Tour which does more harm than good. Now, continuing to show how wasteful and spendthrift his campaign is, they build a mock Greek Temple and rent an entire stadium for this Fraud’s event. I can’t believe people are still contributing to this sham.

Comment by Tuppence 411 | 2008-08-27 19:19:35

Comment by Donna Brazile | 2008-08-27 18:02:39

No it’s not over. For a grand finale, Sen. Clinton will mount the stage at Mile High Stadium, douse herself in kerosene and light a match. Only then will her legacy be secured. And ours…

We all know what happened to the Roman Empire!

I can’t find where I saw it, but I read somewhere that most of the “kiddies” who put Obama in the forefront during the primaries have gone back to their video games.

So now their “hero” and “saviour” can’t break 50% in the polls and the whole Democratic Party is fractured!

I wasn’t watching the Smug and Plus show. It was intentional. Like it or not, ABC decided that the programming was going to be Charades — next up is Wheel of Fortune, followed by Jeopardy — how appropriate.

The last time I felt this disgusted by a political party it was the Republicans. Live long enough and you see things you never thought to see.

I’m so disgusted and mad at the Dems if they dug up Nixon’s corpse and ran it against ob I’d vote for it over him. Nixon’s been dead long enough, bring back Dick! he he.

I once attended a seminar on Fascist architecture, and Obama’s temple would have fit seemlessly into the slide show I saw. Couple that with the fact that the stadium will be packed with 70,000 Obamaites whipped into an adoring frenzy and chanting “Obama, Obama” throughout the fearless leader’s oration and you get an event that is creepy beyond words. If only Leni Reifenstahl were around to film it.

Pearl said: “It’s over. Now what?”

Let’s see, there will be the Obama/Ayers documentary and the Caucus Fraud documentary, just to name a couple. And then there will be the ongoing RNC muckfest resulting in the constant scrambling by the Obama campaign to try and keep their shirts dirt-free knowing full well that OxiClean will not fix Obama’s problems.

As the days tick by, we will see the polls showing that Obama is somehow a flawed candidate but the DNC will scratch their heads and wonder why Obama is not doing very well. Some will say that it must be those racist Hillary voters who just won’t behave themselves.

They can’t really blame Hillary right now since she was so magnanamous at the Convention. They might, however, come out later and say that she should have sent up fireworks stating her undying love for “The One,” or perhaps they will say she could have done a little fistbump-Obamadance with a bronze statue of him at the convention speech. They will simply say that she didn’t do the maximum of what she could have done.

Finally, come January of 2009, McCain will have to deal with healing this nation of the DNC’s extremely devisive stupidy.

Comment by Thinker | 2008-08-27 19:21:32

They will still say that Hillary didn’t do enough.

They will say she should have literally carried Obama on her back into the stadium or spoke for him during the upcoming debates with McCain.
Or they will say the reason Michelle doesn’t know how to smile is because Hillary wasn’t funny enough.

No matter what everyone else said, Muffy McGiggles repeated “She coulda done more!”

When finally someone intelligent fills her in that it would have not gone over as well had Hillary FAKED some admiration for Obama everyone knows she did not feel. Sincerity trumps McGiggles and she repeats herself again.

I’m certain she needs drugs.

Now that she has gracefully bowed out and she is no longer in the running, I have no problems supporting a candidate who shares essentially no issues in common with Hillary because I was always too stupid to understand what the issues even were in the first place!

I am also old and cranky, and McCain is, like me, old and cranky too!

Identity Politics for the win! Who needs stupid liberals on the Supreme Court anyway? My sour grapes are far more important to me than a woman’s right to choose. I’m too old to ever need an abortion anyway!

You left out that Obama will have a rubber stamp Congress with single digit approval ratings which behaved itself, along with Obama supporters such as yourself and in party “leadership”positions, just disgracefully. So, with McCain, things will remain unchanged, but with Obama you are putting the lunatics in charge of the assylum, change for the worse, no matter what the Clintons say now.

Comment by seattle slough | 2008-08-28 12:22:36

Congress gets low approval ratings because it is a bipartisan body. Every one hates about half of all congressmen. Everyone.

If you are concerned that we will have a president that signs bills put forth by a democratic leaning house and senate, you are a Republican. Period.

Every DEM holding Office co-signed this bullshit, giving Obama 45% of the Michiganistan delegates for REMOVING his name from the ballot, and they think that’s DEMOCRACY???

Comment by Monet | 2008-08-28 01:39:38

Another Michiganian. I’m now voting McCain. I’ll vote to keep Carl Levin in the Senate. I’m strongly considering not voting for Rep. Bart Stupak, he supported Obama, even though Obama was not on the ballot in the Michigan primary. I may be mistaken, but I don’t think there are any state reps. up for re-election in my district. My district is a Republican stronghold, the Republicans usually run unopposed for local offices. I may only have the choice to vote for one or two Democrats locally. I’ll vote for them just so their vote count is one higher for an office they’re unlikely to win.

Other than Levin, it looks like I’m voting Republican unless Rep. Stupak can persuade me I should vote for him. Maybe I should vote for him, at an art festival in June, the Democratic Party had a booth and they gave me a free pencil and two notepads with Stupak’s name on it. I probably should show my thanks for the free note paper by voting for him. We’ll see if I’m over his Kool-aid drinking by November.

As for my family, they’re all Republican. I usually spend Presidential Election year Thanksgivings being scolded for voting for a Democrat. I guess this year will be a quiet Thanksgiving, they’ll have nothing to talk about. My friends have either been hypnotized by Obama or are Republicans. My s/o was an Obama supporter, over the past month I’ve finally broken through and he’s now off the Kool-aid. Although I’m not permitted to mention Obama’s name in his presence, he feels like a fool for falling for the Kool-aid, doesn’t like it that I’m right about Obama and he should have listened to me two years ago. I don’t think he can bring himself to vote for McCain and it sounds like he’s going to sit the election out.

If you really want Undercover to become irrelevant, you must treat him as such.

He lives for your responses.

We’ll do one better. We’ll VOTE for McCain. Every vote for McCain is 2 votes that Nobama loses.

I understand how the game is played but SOMEONE has to stand up for Democracy. If not Hillary…then who?

You protest the Party.

Now I’m sure as hell not going to smear Senator Clinton. I sure as hell won’t for Obama because I want her to run in 2012, so I’ll make sure John get’s in.

McCain has had to suck up to his party to get the nominee and the Party would have taken someone else if they had anyone more conservative and not a religious moron like Huckleberry.

Romney had not shot as a Mormon.

This left John.

He should have won in 2000, but got railroaded like Clinton in 2008.

John played nice and this is his reward.

I’ll take 4 years of John McCain over 4-8 years of Obama, any damn day of the week.

I’d love to see Clinton run as the Libertarian Party Candidate, but I can’t even reconcile 50% of the LP’s current platform and it’s No taxes, no plans for Infrastructure but free enterprise approach so I know Clinton sure as hell wouldn’t work for those myopic fools.

The Independent Party would be interesting but the GOP and the DP didn’t like their juggernaut being broken up and would both attack her.

It’s 2012 before we get the right person for the Job.

I would relish the chance for Clinton to Win in 2012 and after she is swarn in declare herself an Independent.

That way she would be truly signalling her focus for the Nation and not the parties running Congress.

Tyrione,

I see the logic of your thinking and I think many feel as you do.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the next few weeks. I own my vote and i will use it to be heard.

The roll call vote was nothing short of a sham. 18 million voters were silenced by the DNC. I do not know why Hillary seemed to be a doormat about this, but I am sure we will learn more in the tides to come.

I know this; I am more resolved than ever to never cast a vote for Obama, for ANY position.

I still think Hillary is “playing nice.” Hillary is nice, but she’s “playing nice” to the New version of the Socialist “vanguard” / intelligentsia. I still say that she also owns her vote and knows what she really will be doing behind the voting booth curtain. That is, unless they decide we all have to caucus during the general election.
