Palin Vetted; Obama Remains Unvetted

The Media is pushing the narrative that Sarah Palin was not vetted. Any close observer of Republican campaigns knows this is false. Republicans are a minority party who continue to win elections because they are professionals; vetting a candidate is a no-brainer for the political veterans running McCain’s operation. Indeed, it was reported in May that McCain’s people were interviewing Palin for the number two job. Tom Blumer, in today’s Pajamasmedia, writes:

Two major elements of the developing meme that John McCain did not sufficiently vet presumptive vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin are highly suspect. Each contention is not provable, and there is strong reason to believe that each is almost completely, if not totally, untrue.

The first assertion is that McCain’s people did little if any vetting of Palin until a few days ago. The second is that McCain’s team has never looked at years of archived articles at Palin’s hometown paper.

Wizbang Blog reported on May 29 that a McCain advance man named Arthur Culvahouse was in Juneau, Alaska. Even three months ago, Wizbang Blog’s Kevin
already sensed the power of Palin being on McCain’s ticket:

Governor Palin would (in my estimation) make an excellent VP candidate for McCain. Thomas Cheplick at The American Spectator makes the case that she’s probably the only VP candidate who can balance the ticket against Obama. She’s also a potential magnet for disaffected Hillary Clinton voters, many of whom are just looking for a reason not to vote for Obama.

If conservative blogs were weighing the benefits of Palin months ago, one can be fairly certain that McCain’s lieutenants were vetting Alaska’s governor and conducting focus groups and polls on every conceivable angle of her selection.

On the Democratic side, however, any criticism of Obama was quickly shut down by the media. For example, David Sirota defended Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s racial sermons and implied that Hillary was engaged in racial politics by bringing up Wright. Sirota wrote during the primaries: “Does the very reaction to Wright show he’s right about racism? Clinton seems to think so,” sniffed an indignant Sirota on the notion that Hillary would use Wright against Obama.

The hysterical reaction during the primaries to any criticism of Obama with accusations of racism has created a situation where an unvetted Obama faces the Republican Blitzkreig.

Below is a limited list of areas where the media has failed to investigate Obama. This list does not include Obama’s many policy reversals or outright fabrications, like the statement that the Kennedy family facilitated his father coming to the United States. It does not include Obama’s habit of voting ‘present’ as a member of the Illinois State Senate nor his strange maneuverings regarding a born alive bill. Instead, the list below concerns Obama’s associates and business dealings. It is a sordid group, comprised of the America-hating, anti-Israel, and explicitly racial Left. There is big money involved, as with the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, and bizarre organizations to which money was funneled. Obama’s milieu is the intersection of Chicago politics and the fringe Left; there is much to be explored and explained about Obama. Below is a partial list where Obama remains unvetted:

1. Trinity United Church of Christ. Obama’s 20-year membership in an explicitly racist church, a church with rhetoric too hot for Oprah.
2. Rezko. Obama’s ties to Tony Rezko and the 2005 purchase of the Obamas’ home. Obama funnelling money to Rezko’s sleazy businesses.
3. Ayers. Obama’s extensive ties to unrepentant terroist Bill Ayers.
4. Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC). Obama and Ayers together dispensing tens of millions of dollars supposedly for educational organizations. Although now just being investigated, it’s known that money was funnelled to Ayers’ friend, radical Mike Klonsky, a founding member of the Maoist Party of the United States.
5. Minister Louis Farrakhan. Obama is surrounded by people like Rev. Willie Barrow, a friend and admirer of the anti-white, anti-Semitic Farrakhan.

If the media doesn’t do their job, we can rest assured that the Republicans will happily do it for them.

Yes, when will barky be vetted? I guess that’s the best they can come up with, that the republicans didn’t vet her? Yeah, I believe that one!

Anyway, from Hillbuzz.

You know the name Carly Fiorina. Fortune crowned her America’s top businesswoman. She not only has great credits, she also has perfect makeup, good clothes and a great handbag. This nifty-looking blonde was VP of AT&T, launched Lucent (then civilization’s most successful IPO) and went on to become chairwoman/CEO of Hewlett Packard until the board stuck a shiv in her Chanel.

A McCain adviser, she and I had a little talk. Carly said: “With my title as Sen. McCain’s ‘victory chairman,’ I have my own skybox at the convention. Such a skybox is usually filled with the party faithful. However, instead of all devoted Republicans, what you will meet in my individual skybox is many Democrats.”

I stared at her. She was telling me something but, not being overly bright, I just wasn’t sure what.

“And at this moment,” added Carly, “Nobody - but you - knows this.”

For some reason - lack of time, lack of a proper spot to get together quickly, lack of I don’t exactly know what - this hastily put-together meeting was in a small car. A moving car. She had a driver. It was Carly, a staffer, me in the middle scrunched up tight with pad and pencil, jammed into the back seat. Driving around the streets.

“Look, in terms of Democratic women, there’s an intensity of feeling that the party passed them over. I’ve not been politically active before. Never had an affiliation before. Didn’t even know the key issues. But John McCain asked me to reach out because I can talk about economy and I can talk about women’s issues, so I got involved.

“I’m meeting with these women everywhere - Colorado, Ohio, Nevada, Scranton, Penn., where Joe Biden’s so big. Every important swing state, every place where Hillary ran big. Not New York because we may not win New York.

“These women are right now being told, ‘The party doesn’t own your vote.’

“And because of what happened to me at Hewlett Packard, women empathize with me the same way they empathize with Hillary. We’re both fighters.”

So, Carly, about these women you’re reaching out to. They’re not Republicans you’re massing for McCain? They’re all Democrats?

“Yes. I’m a primary advocate, but a very public spokesperson in getting new votes. Pulling Democratic women’s votes into the Republican fold. I am infiltrating the Democratic Party. Going behind the lines. However, I’m not an enemy. I’m helping them. They’re welcoming me, delighted to learn about issues that concern women. Especially the economy. After all, women start small businesses. And, don’t forget, we women are the majority.”

So Hillary knows this?

“I’m not sure I know that answer. I can’t say whether Hillary knows or not.”

As much as I could squiggle around in my tiny space to face her, I did. “So, basically, what are you saying?” I asked.

“Look, put it this way. Hillary’s people are working with me. My people are meeting with Democratic activists, Hillary activists, party activists who have been in her campaign. We’re going to places where Hillary won handily. Specifically targeting those areas. And before Obama’s expected bounce from the Democratic convention, you’ll notice John McCain’s numbers were creeping up.

“That was all because of us. What we’re doing. The inroads he’s making are with Democratic women. It’s grass-roots. We’re connecting with the undecideds. We began to reach out as soon as Hillary lost.”

So, Carly, hon, does Hillary know or not?

Carly Fiorina’s diamond and pearl earrings bobbled as she turned head-on to me. “People very very close to Hillary are heavily involved in this operation. And I just had lunch with a huge Hillary supporter who’s onboard.”

And how might she and this team plan to handle the Republican candidate’s biggest hurdle with women - abortion.

“Abortion is a scare tactic. The Democratic Party has used Roe v. Wade to hold women hostage. There are many issues concerning women that must also be addressed - security, education, health care. We have to help them get over this hurdle.

“We’re co-opting Democratic operatives who will not be turning out votes for Obama. The Democrats will realize how effective we were the day after the election. And lots of the big-time organizing and heavy-duty financing for our singular effort has come through the fine hand of people very well known to Mrs. Clinton.”

Carly Fiorina’s consorting with the enemy is somehow gaining members. One particular ladies lunch in Denver had hundreds of women. I was allowed to attend. I was not allowed to write about it.

Sarah Palin, Carly Fiorina . . . Camp McCain is clearly staking out the female vote.

That means that in some way the selection of Palin is McCain’s way of extending a real hand of partnership to the disaffected women that Hillary left behind, but also a way of insuring that they will get their needs met.

One commentator quoted in this blog said McCain’s pick of Palin shows he trusts women (and this particular woman) by taking a risk with his political future. I would think that theme will be pushed by the McCain campaign to bring in those disaffected Clinton supporters.

I just have to say that the reason I am SO
enamored of Sarah Palin right now is:
a. she seems to realize that as a politician
SHE works for US, at our discretion.
b. She is the ANTI-sexinthecity female.
My heart is FILLED with joy and I can
peacefully cast my vote for McCain/Palin
and sleep like a baby.
The democratic party has been
taken over by extreme leftists and in fact
a few whose actual SANITY I question
(are you listening NancyP?)
The Democratic Party is sick and that sickness
comes from within.
Perhaps the only way to save the democratic party
is to let it die so perhaps it will be born
again.

McCain has picked a maverick with talent. This is a clever pick and it’s because he’ll get lots of mileage. This is what palin will do for USA..
Stop the Revolving Door and Restore Ethics

America deserves and demands a government that serves the country, not itself. Most people believe that elected leaders are more interested in the perks and privileges of office than in public service, and that too often the special interest lobbyists with the fattest wallets and best access carry the day when issues of public policy are being decided.

John McCain has fought the good fight against the practices that alienate the public from their elected leaders. He has fought for public disclosure of those who lobby lawmakers for a living, and to prohibit them from providing gifts to elected officials.

He has fought for greater transparency regarding the official activities of lobbyists, disclosure of those who arrange for lawmakers’ travel, and require members to pay full charter rates when using corporate aircraft.

He has fought the “revolving door” by which lawmakers and other influential officials leave their posts and become lobbyists for the special interests they have aided.

He has fought for an independent ethics office in Congress to help restore the public’s faith in the integrity of the legislative branch.

Another note is that a huge portion of Dems are not ‘The Enemy’, they are fairly traditional, patriotic Americans like I (Republican) like to think I am. So it’s not exactly rocket science to reach out to people that want the best for their country. I hope we find them all, and do this thing TOGETHER.

As PUMA says, “Country before party” and they borrowed it from one of our great presidents who admonished us to “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”

And this year, as mind boggling as it sounds, that seems to be voting Republican because first on the list is restoring Democracy and that isn’t going to happen by the appointment of another unqualified president.

McCain/Palin. Soertoro/Obama/Biden. Any question?

Hillary really likes McCain and both are centrists and this Party Loyalty stinks with Obama’s dems, just like it does with Bush’s neocons.

I never saw such a divided America until Bush took office and now Obama is dividing us more and I don’t like it at all.

I doubt that McCain has forgotten how horrible Bush treated him in 2000 and Hillary may say she rises above what the DNC and Obama did, but she is human too. We may forgive but we don’t forget.

After the shameful and horrendous treatment of Sarah Palin and her family, I hope you are correct that the Republicans will soon spill the beans about Obama. After the 8 point bump Obama got today I wonder. Is that bump convention related? If so, hostorically that is low for a Dem candidate. Or is the bump from the personal attacks on Palin? If so what a revolting development. Base personal attacks from the left strictly for political gain. This is politics of personal destruction. Well, yet again we see Obama does not tell the truth. He claims he is a new trpe of candidate. Yeah. And I have a bridge in the Sahara.

I hate Obama more every day.

Comment by Darryl | 2008-09-02 18:32:22

Obama recieved a bump because they took survey’s during the weeks that kids were out of school. Nothing more nothing less.

I noticed the same type of swing on Yahoo answers. Usually it is very strongly republican right after work, but this weekend it was very very strongly Obama due to adolesent overload.

This is apparent if you look at his convention. Alot of pictures showed underage voters in his audience. Obama appeals to overtly emotional people and that is one of the drawbacks to adolescence.

Comment by Truant Officer | 2008-09-02 20:21:04

“Obama recieved a bump because they took survey’s during the weeks that kids were out of school. Nothing more nothing less.”

OK that’s a relief. So we truant officers can keep these weasels in school the day of the GE to prevent attacks on polling places. That’s encouraging.

P.S. Brazile is saying Anderson Cooper is a brave man. Brazile is disgusting. Just looking at her ugly face and listening to her ugly voice makes me sick.

Comment by Duras | 2008-09-02 19:01:55

That post-convention “bump” is about average. And don’t look at any other polls except for the Gallup and Rasmussen tracking polls. Those are the largest polls, they’re done every day, and they’re done by professional polling organizations who … unlike CBS News, the NY Times, and thw Washington Post … don’t have a partisan axe to grind.

Right now Obama’s ahead by about 5 points nationally, which is about where I thought he’d be after the Deomcratic convention. I suspect that his lead will be down to 1-3 points again after the GOP finishes its convention on Friday, meaning that it’s very much anybody’s game.

They didn’t want their dirty laundry to show.

As it was they had to disenfranchise Michigan and Florida and in order to force Hillary out and we as her supporters got to watch the thuggery from the beginning to end. It was quite a show.

Francis,

I’ve had about enough of you calling me a Republican. I’ve been a loyal Democrat since 1968. Got it? I vote in EVERY election including state and local Primaries.

I am now ‘Unaffiliated’ because of the way the DNC leadership ’selected’ 0bama and the way 0bama gamed the Caucus with the help of Dean and Brazile and how they structured the Caucus calendar.

0bama is where he is today because of the DNC, his corrupt Chicago politics and a complicit msm who is doing everything in their power to elect him. Did you see Campbell Brown last night for God’s sake?

Real journalists do not behave this way. In all my years, I’ve NEVER seen such preferential treatment given to a candidate running for POTUS. If they were doing this for McCain, I would be ready to riot in the streets. Democrats are now behaving the way I accused Republicans of behaving. And I am at a loss for words as to how and why this is happening.

On top of everything else, 0bama’s candidacy has deprived me of the ethnic joy of having a candidate that looked like me. He’s also deprived me of the best female candidate for POTUS.

You and all the other Dems can float down the river denial if you want to, but there are a slew of people who feel exactly like I do and our numbers are well within the margin of error.

In approximately 5 days since Palin was announced, the msm has done more investigating of her than they’ve done on 0bama in 18 months. They have NOT, contrary to what you are trying to imply, asked him any tough questions. And when abc during one of the debates tried to, he whined like a bitch and his supporters carried on like Brownshirts. Palin and the Republicans have taken the all of the attacks and said virtually nothing.

So lie to yourself over the next 60 days if you want to about people like me being Republicans. The proof will come on Election night when we have our final say.

Stock up on anti-depressants.

You’re gonna need’em.

I do not recall any media vetting Obama and I watch a lot of politics. Perhaps the Wright deal got a little attention but the pundits wet themselves and turned it into a “holy moment” for Obama. And the career of Obama, a two term state senator who slept the first 7 years, robotically pushing the present button! His US Senate career isn’t much better — he decided to run for President a little over 100 days in! That’s what I call great experience and a real workaholic.

Depends on your definition of “won” which Websters’ defines as the past tense of “win” which is defined as “to be the victor” so I think the word you were searching for might have been “gift” defined as “something transfered to another without compensation” because the delegate votes from the 2008 primary election were definitely transferred to Soetoro/Obama without the Voters and/or delegates getting compensated.

Most of us learned the lessons of 2000 very well; you can’t stop counting the votes when things aren’t going your way, declare victory and then whine that you’re being criticized.

An excellent point.

Obama is both the player - and the played.

I was a Bush hater. Well, not really hate, but I despised him so much I would change the channel whenever he spoke. I should apologize to him. Obama makes Bush look good.

I agree. Let’s just hope and pray that noone ever comes along that make obarfbag look good!

ABC News had a great show tonight. They showed a back door where Tom Delay was giving a secret bash at the convention (McCain helped bring Delay down, but he’s still around). My favorite segment was Garrison Keillor’s guided tour of St. Paul.

About three weeks ago, I did a google search of all things ‘Sarah Palin’, and right there in black and white was the whole Trooper-gate story.

Of course, McCain knew about this well in advance. It has been revealed on television even — I know I heard it at least once well before Sarah was made the VP choice.

As to the pregnancy of the daughter or the 22-year old Todd’s DUI, not even relevant — or have ya’ll forgotten that it wasn’t Laura who had a couple of DUI’s on her record — it was Bush and Cheney.

This is all much ado about nothing and makes the MSM look incredibly sexist and biased, once again.

PUMA for McCain/Palin ‘08

Troopergate, Alaska Style is just one more play on the Woman as Emotional, Vindictive, Manipulative Screaming Bitches scenario that the Dems used so well against Hillary Clinton for equal non-issues.

The Dems weakest point is what worked against Hillary seemed like only she earned this attack. Yet now that they spread their poison to all women, we know it is a Dem Party blindness and not just a Hillary attack.

Poor Dems, they now have no where to go to get their disenfranchised women back.

Comment by Obama's gums look sick | 2008-09-02 18:31:08

Wasn’t it the Dems who made so much fuss over Cheney’s lesbian daughters pregnancy as well? What is with the Dem Party and why do they hate women so much?

Will the real Sarah Palin stand up? She just did in this indepth interview. A+++++

To me, it’s not about whether she was vetted beforehand or not. It’s not even that I care that she has a pregnant teenager. What makes me absolutely disgusted is to hear the double standards spewing out of the Republican camp. Where the hell were these same outraged, “compassionate” conservatives when BOTH Clintons were being skewered by the MSM for 20 years?!??? Today Rush Limbaugh, fat ass drug addict, was saying Hillary can’t hold a candle to Sarah blah blah blah, and putting on his faux outrage over the media’s coverage of Palin’s pregnant teen. That’s the same monster who built an entire career out of Clinton bashing, dipping and diving into their PERSONAL business as he saw fit, but suddenly families are off limits??!!!?? And Obama the pussy saying the same thing??!!!?? WHY SHOULD A CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN’S FAMILY LIFE BE OFF LIMITS WHEN THE CLINTON’S WERE UNDER A MICROSCOPIC LENS FOR NEARLY 20 YEARS!???????

Comment by Obama's gums look sick | 2008-09-02 18:35:01

I agree with you - it is payback time for the Reps trashing the Clintons, except if is now coming from the very same Dems who also were only to happy to yet again trash the Clintons. Irony must be noted.

But just like the failed attempts to trash Hillary, Palin too when seen in real life and real time will make fools and liars of all their critics. And that is why Clinton started winning more and more races and Obama peaked a long time ago.

Same thing is happening now - Dems trashing Palin before anyone finally gets a chance to see her and know her in person. She is terrific and again the Dems will start losing more support than they are currently gaining by their vicious attacks from the “party of change”.

Attacking women is no change. Got that, Obambi?

The Clintons were hardly skewered by the MSM. Bill lied under oath and had sex in the oval office and the MSM gave him a FREE PASS. You’re off your rocker if you think they didn’t. Conservatives have always been slayed by the media and liberals have always been handled with kid gloves. The beauty of this election is that some of you are finally beginning to see it.

McCain/Palin 08

Comment by AnnieCarmel | 2008-09-02 19:52:19

Huh? Hardly a free pass. If I have to hear about that blue dress all these years later, I’ll barf. But certainly Edwards got one and continues to fly under the radar. I don’t really care about his affair/baby/whatever. What I do care about is his hypocrisy, lies and dragging his wife out as a shield for any criticism…along with wasting my CA primary vote.

Comment by mimi | 2008-09-02 20:11:18

I don’t call Monica Lewinsky being all over the tv giving Clinton a pass. And it’s still being aired. It was too juicy a story to pass up. Are you blogging from Mars or the lunatic asylum?

Of course the Conservatives relished all the negative air time the msm gave the Clintons and they weren’t going to defend them. But, in all fairness, the Clintons were over 21 and Bill was the POTUS. That’s fair game and since I want 0bama’s sordid past exposed, I’m not going to rail about it. He and Michelle, Biden and his wife are over 21. Even though I’m against 0bama, I’d go to the mat if they attacked his little daughters in any way.

I personally think candidates personal lives should be off limits unless it affects their ability to govern, but the msm rolls that way. Which is why, when they mentioned Todd Palin’s DUI 22 years ago, and fail to mention that 0bama who is the candidate used cocaine many years ago, it seems totally biased. A lot of people haven’t read Dreams For My Father, they don’t know 0bama’s story and the msm is not telling it.

Ah, but you’re going to vote for the son of a bitch who said Hillary Clinton’s only daughter was so butt ugly it must be because her dad is Janet Reno. Mimi, mimi, mimi. Of all the head-shaking hypocrites on this republican wasteland of a blog, you may be the hardest to take.

Rush Limbaugh is a nut case! Don’t hold him against Sarah Paulin. And two wrongs don’t make a right. It was wrong for Hillary and it’s wrong for Paulin. I haven’t been back to MSNBC since the Clintons were accused of “pimping” Chelsea. It’s wrong for MSM to rake Bristol Paulin over the coals and accuse the Palins of bad parenting. Forget Rush Limbaugh. Just consider the source. He has little credibility any more.

Comment by Diana | 2008-09-02 20:33:07

Never listen to Rush. He’s a radical Republican. He doesn’t care who he rips apart. As long as he thinks there is just one person who will agree with him. I call him the Republican Michael Moore. Two of a kind. 90% of the time he makes me want to pull my hair out. I can’t listen through a whole show. I don’t understand what it is with him and smacking his lips. That really drives me crazy too. He has no business picking on Obama for stuttering.

Besides isn’t he supposed to be campaigning for someone else now that John got the nomination?? I’ll say it for you, “Go away Rush and take Michael Moore with you. Two peas in a pod on opposite ends. Both radical. American’s don’t need either one of you and your radical views. Both of you are hypocrites.” Remember when he came unglued on Patrick Kennedy, then acted like he was a saint for admitting he had a drug problem. All the while knowing he had a drug problem…I could care less what Democrats were saying about him. He was the one ripping other’s apart knowing he himself had his own problems. You can’t get more hypocritical than that.

To me, it seems that the Dems and liberal media got eggs on their faces because they thought Romney or Pawlenty (sp)was going to get picked. They didn’t prepare for Sarah, and thus, the ’she hasn’t been vetted’ meme. It’s truly laughable when these clowns talk about her being unvetted when right there in front of their eyes is the most unvetted joker of them all named Barry/Barack.

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-09-02 19:43:35

They were made fools of, though they lost any semblance of objectivity this year. Their excuse is the Iraq war, stupidest excuse I’ve ever heard.

Why won’t more Clinton supporters come over and vote for McCain? I mean the ones committed to not voting for Obama. We all want the same thing–for Obama to lose! The only way that’s going to happen is if McCain wins! Which is a much better alternative! Obama is like 9 points in some polls since they’ve been bashing Sarah Palin. US Weekly has a cover story coming out entitled “Babies,Lies, and Scandals: McCain’s New Vice President”
We need to stand together!

They think that even though the Democrats took away their right to represent whom they wanted as their nominee, that they still hold their values at heart.

That would be like trusting a thief in your house because he believes in gay rights. Absurd and stupid.
