Roger Simon and the Media Bias Against Palin

Roger Simon, Keith Olbermann, Sally Quinn, and a host of other low lifes masquerading as journalists remain clueless. Simon is out today with this pathetic, whining piece:

On behalf of the elite media, I would like to say we are very sorry.

We have asked questions this week that we should never have asked.

We have asked pathetic questions like: Who is Sarah Palin? What is her record? Where does she stand on the issues? And is she is qualified to be a heartbeat away from the presidency?

We have asked mean questions like: How well did John McCain know her before he selected her? How well did his campaign vet her? And was she his first choice?

Bad questions. Bad media. Bad.

It is not our job to ask questions. Or it shouldn’t be. To hear from the pols at the Republican National Convention this week, our job is to endorse and support the decisions of the pols.

You smug cretin. Of course you should ask questions. No one is saying, “don’t ask questions.” JUST BE FAIR AND ASK OBAMA THE SAME GODDAMN QUESTIONS?

Roger Simon, wise ass pundit, is one of those who plays straight man to Sarah Palin, pretends that he and his fellow boys and girls on the bus are tough guys, hard nosed, rough and ready, “Front Page,” first rate, professional, no favors, just the news, get me rewrite kind of journalists when it has come to vetting Palin.

Well, get me rewrite. OK, Roger old buddy, let’s take you up on your pretentious posturing. You want to vet a politician? Then why have you refused to take a look at Obama’s relationship with Bill Ayers, including their work together at the Annenberg Challenge and the Woods Fund. What about Obama’s sleazy house deal with Tony Rezko and the massive movement of funds that went from Nadhmi Auchi to Tony Rezko. What about Obama’s relationship with Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam? We learned yesterday that a prominent muslim with ties to the Nation of Islam was raising money to send Barack to College. Why the hell have you ignored this? Let’s not forget the Reverends Jeremiah Wright, Michael Pfleger, and James Meeks.

Where are Obama’s papers from his law practice? And where are his medical records. Go ahead and ask tough, probing questions of Sarah Palin, her family, and her church. Fair questions. But goddamn it, ask Barack those same questions. Just be fair. We’re waiting. Roger that, Roger.

No they won’t. It’s like they have some kind of mental deficit.

Ask about the ISSUES! That’s fair.

Soledad 0′Brien had the nerve to tell Amy Holmes that her statement about the msm being biased against Palin was unfair.

Are these people ALL on 0bama’s payroll?

What on earth are they watching? Because what I’m watching and have been for the past 8 months are people committed to the narrative of this biracial candidate becoming the first AA POTUS. They’ve dubbed him exceptional and have ignored anything that conflicts with their narrative.

For God’s sake, they’re still trying pass the idea that he has more foreign policy experience than she does. Based on what? That 10-day crash course foreign policy junket that flopped. He even pissed a couple of people off along the way. So he met with a couple of heads-of-states for an hour or two. That passes for foreign policy expertise.

He didn’t hold ONE meeting of his sub-Committee on foreign affairs. He had the chance to be a leg or two up, but he blew it.

The msm has to answer not just for Sarah, but for Hillary as well. They thought because they got away with it with Hillary they were going to get away with it with Palin.

Wrong!

The Republicans don’t play that!

Comment by avwrobel | 2008-09-04 11:29:00

The problem with the entire msm as a whole is that they think Obambi is qualified because he was awarded the nomination, therefore any further questions about his past and lack of achievement are null and void, because they assume that the voters don’t care and don’t want to hear any more about it. Unfortunately, the Repubs are going to begin going through the public vetting of Obambi, and the education of the public about him. Things that should have happened much more in-depth Jan - March.

But the questions asked about Sarah Palin were not the tough but legitimate questions. They were asking intrusive and sexist questions that would never be asked of a man. Questions such as who is the real mother of her baby. And why did she get on a plane after her water broke. I am so PO’d about those questions!

Comment by Annie Oakley | 2008-09-04 13:17:50

The dems have gone all Rove on us. Simon answers a charge that wasn’t made, a tactic the Bush administration perfected. No one criticized the media for asking legitimate questions. They are being hammered for their sexism. Too bad Simon and the rest refuse to see it. Guess they’ll keep blaming half the country for being bitter, nagging, bitches who should get over it, stay home and keep to the kitchen and the bedroom. Roger that.

Sarah Palin is pro-contraception and a member of Feminists for Life, she has never banned library books, or abortion, nor forced anybody to teach creationism in public schools. She also does not torture polar bears, and it is doubtful that is she having an affair as the nat’l enquirer tries to imply. A girl only has so much time.

I realize everybody would like to project all the evils of the rabid right onto this one woman, but that’s not really rational. It also speaks to a certain amount of desperation.

I would love to debate some of Palin’s issues, but I suppose that shall have to wait until the hysteria and outright panic has passed.

Comment by Leisa | 2008-09-04 11:51:15

I hope that the sexist gig is up and is as ineffective as the racist card.

Seeing Sarah after her speech with her family made me realize how brave McCain is. He is challenging Americans to rise up to our highest and best ideals. We can be anything, and a woman can be a good mother and a strong leader.

This action of asking Palin to be on his ticket as VP is one action that is change. He is walking his talk. What a breath of fresh air.

Comment by mimi | 2008-09-04 13:58:16

Actually, by defending their sexist approach, they’ve invalidated the race card as well.

Trust me, AAs are not going to be happy when they discover that their support of 0bama cost them this.

Comment by NoBamaNoWay | 2008-09-04 17:24:34

correct; mccain showed us who the real man is. a strong man is not threatened by a strong woman.

Comment by Hope Floats | 2008-09-04 12:24:39

Debbie Wasserman Shultz tried defending the sexist attacks against Sarah Palin by saying she preached abstinence only and also favored banning sex ed from classrooms. So, it was a “legitimate issue” to attack her pregnant teenage daughter.

Have you seen her daughter? She’s angelically beautiful.

And her fiance Levi? He’s incredibly hot and very much in love with his young bride judging from their body language and easy comfort around one another.

Like it or not, they’re a celebrity couple now. The Palins are a royal family to give the Obamas a run for their money.

When you see the Obamas and Bidens together, they’re sleaze. Kissing on the mouth, wife-swapping, drunk in public. Add that to all the other strange friends Obama keeps, and you’re seeing a disgraceful 4 yrs.

The Obama surrogates keep mocking “family values.” It is okay to attack a young woman, because the GOP preaches family values. Then why is that daughter being “punished with a baby”? Last I heard, you’re supposed to do the right thing, get married and keep your child. That’s a woman’s choice, and in this case it is consistent with “family values.” If Obama keeps this up, it will cost him votes. All his high road “condemning” means nothing when his surrogates, people speaking on record on behalf of his campaign, make statements contradicting his code of conduct.

Comment by Elizabeth Reilly | 2008-09-04 15:46:08

Right now the Situation Room is reporting about State Trooper Gate. Of course they are grudgingly reporting that the trooper threatened Palin’s father, tazered his son (step), but didn’t say that he was only 11. They said he illegally shot a moose (they seemed to make light of it), and drove drunk. I almost felt as if Blitzer was holding his nose when he reported these events. It’s too bad that the media are beginning to realize that we are going to hold them to account and call them on their lies and bias.
Olbermann, after the speech, looked like he had swallowed a lemon. He so didn’t want to say anything fair about Palin and the whole tone of is reporting (if you can call it that) was like this whole thig was an anomaly. Nope, Keithie, she’s the real deal. Get used to it. Maybe when she gets into the White House she will root out the corruption in the media!

Hey, speaking of media. How ironic that this didn’t make the news. I noticed Obama and the Democratic committee was served with papers on Sept 4. Why do you think that didn’t make headlines? The attorney that filed the case is challenging Obama’s citizenship. Seems someone made the connection between Obama, Factcheck, and Annenberg. Comment by Francis | 2008-09-04 12:10:09

Sarah Palin’s church, the Wasilla Bible Church, a church she has been attending her whole life, gave its pulpit over to a figure viewed with deep hostility by many Jewish organizations: David Brickner, the executive director of Jews for Jesus.

Palin’s pastor, Larry Kroon, introduced Brickner on Aug. 17, according to a transcript of the sermon on the church’s website.

“He’s a leader of Jews for Jesus, a ministry that is out on the leading edge in a pressing, demanding area of witnessing and evangelism,” Kroon said.

Brickner’s mission has drawn wide criticism from the organized Jewish community, and the Anti-Defamation League accused them in a report of “targeting Jews for conversion with subterfuge and deception.”

Brickner also described terrorist attacks on Israelis as God’s “judgment of unbelief” of Jews who haven’t embraced Christianity. “Judgment is very real and we see it played out on the pages of the newspapers and on the television. It’s very real. When [Brickner's son] was in Jerusalem he was there to witness some of that judgment, some of that conflict, when a Palestinian from East Jerusalem took a bulldozer and went plowing through a score of cars, killing numbers of people. Judgment — you can’t miss it.”

Palin was in church that day, Kroon said.

My guess is “Larry the Bulldog” will not pursue this story with the same vigor he pursued the Rev Wright fiasco. Prove me wrong, Larry!

Both stories are legit, Larry. What exactly was Sarah Palin doing exposing her children to this kind of hate-speak two weeks ago?

LMAO!!! What are Obama’s two main weaknesses: Inexperience and Rev Wright. So what does McCain do? He picks someone more inexperienced than Obama who happens to go to a church where hatred of Jews is tolerated. Ohhh, the irony!

Obama’s the luckiest SOB in the world!

Francis,
You are completely full of shit. Jews for Jesus is not a radical organization. Yes, they believe that Jesus is the Messiah. And yes, conservative and orthodox Jews dislike them. But they are not bad people and they certainly don’t want to damn America.

I’ve followed Jews for Jesus for 25 years. They are good folks.

Comment by Diana | 2008-09-04 12:58:31

Looks like Sarah’s church is addressing this:

David Brickner was recently a guest speaker at Wasilla Bible Church, the church Sarah Palin attends. Please be aware that his statements regarding God’s judgment have been published out of context in a way that we feel is misleading.

and this:

When David Brickner spoke at Wasilla Bible Church, the title of his message was, “The Jerusalem Dilemma.” Sarah Palin had not yet been tapped as the Republican vice presidential candidate. Following that announcement, David’s message became a matter of public interest, and portions of his message were removed from context to give the impression that he believes God is judging and punishing Israel via terrorist attacks. That is not David’s belief. Had his entire message been published, people would have seen the following, (also excerpted from his message).

“And so all of the controversy that we see swirling in Jerusalem is really a mirror that the world looks into to see the controversy within. The Jerusalem Dilemma is the Wasilla Dilemma; it’s the dilemma of the human heart. And so it’s important for us to notice, then, Jesus’ response to this unbelief, this rejection.

‘How often I’ve longed to gather your children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings.’

In other words, in the face of unbelief, God’s unrelenting response to human unbelief is to say, ‘Hey, I long to gather you. Despite your long history of rejecting My messengers, My passion as I look down the corridor of time over this vast history,’ the Son of God, in His most divinely aware statement, says, ‘I long to gather you.’ And here, I believe He’s reflecting the words of the Psalmist in Psalm 91,

‘He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide under the shadow of the Almighty. (verse 4…) …under His wings …

“Whose wings? The Almighty’s wings…
‘…you will find refuge.’

I’m the last person I thought would be saying this, but: To be fair to Jews for Jesus . . .

They are not an apocalyptic cult. They do not hate Jews. They are not about exterminating Jews. (They do take advantage of the lonely elderly, and most of them are not Jewish.) They are not close to being as monstrous as Scientology.

The headquarters of Jews for Jesus is on my block, in New York City. They don’t try to convert around here. When they first moved in, I talked to the (Jewish) father of the guy who started the group; he was bemused but said it had turned his son’s life around. Much more worrisome is the new Japanese cult moving in down the other side of the block, who do have apocalyptic beliefs, are connected to the Japanese cult that released sarin in the subway, and stretch back to the Imperial Japanese military in World War II. According to a book about them I found online, when you reach a sufficiently high level in the hierarchy, they hand you “The Protocol of the Elders of Zion.” No kidding. (I told the J for J people to watch out for them.) Meanwhile, God wants you to send money.

Three blocks away we have the headquarters for Opus Dei.

What’s the world coming to?

Anyway, Francis, this seems a laughably weak reed against Black Liberation Theology. Drop it, for your sake.

Comment by Brian Hildebrand | 2008-09-07 10:49:31

One thing you failed to mention is that Jews for Jesus are infact Jewish. Are you saying that they are being anti semetic? Do you think God’s judgement on Jewish people is anti semetic? All through the Hebrew scriptures, God judged the people he loved to correct them and bring those who had wandered away from him back . Like the father in Fiddler on the roof said, “I know we are your(God’s) chosen people but couldn’t you you chose some one else once in a while. The scriptures say that he whom God loves, he corrects and chastens. Every Christian( which is a jewish continuem and natural progression)that has allowed gentiles to be fellow heirs with the decendants of Abraham. I grew up with Jewish bible hero’s as my hero’s. Daniel , Abraham, David but all through the bible God judged the people he loved. Judgement was always meant to save God’s people from ultimate distruction. The purpose of Judgement was salvation, not hate. Christians may be a pecular people but they understand this. They also know that he who blesses Israel will be blessed of God. They pray for the peace of Jerusalem

Anybody who thinks the national media are in the tank for Obama aren’t paying attention. This is very clever of the media to trash Palin in order to get MORE support for their darling, John McCain.

It’s funny to watch the Republicans trash the national media when it is most likely the two are in cahoots.

After all, THEY singled out Obama because Obama could not win, and McCain was to be the nominee. Voters in both parties be damned.

Most people don’t realize the extent of the manipulation.

Francis troll - sitting through one sermon of Jews for Jesus is not the same as sitting through 20 years of anti-white, anti-semitic, anti-American Jeremiah G-d D–m the USof KKKA Wright sermons. The test for Sarah Palin is if she would attend another sermon by that organization or donate say $56,000.00 to Jeremiah Wright for his $10 million dollar mansion fund! Why doesn’t Roger Simon look into that? Why doesn’t the National Enquirer interview the Obama nanny? Exactly how much is the princesses dance lessons costing? How about asking Obama about his college records, state senate records, tax records, medical records, birth certificate, passport and other citizenship he has held over the past 20 years. How about Roger Simon post the transcript of the speech Obama gave in support of his good friend Edward Said? Do you think Jews would care to know about that? Just asking. It is so much more important to have Sally Quinn, the scion of American motherhood, tell us that Sarah Palin can’t possibly work as a VP and be a mother at the same time, isn’t it Francis.

If as another post suggested that the Repubs are behind the media takeover to create support for McCain and keep BO from winning there’s nothing we can do about that now. It doesn’t mean anything because as a lifelong Democrat I’m not sitting home–I’m voting McCain/Palin. Simon’s simpering piece of sarcastic drivel just proves Palin’s point. The MSM is in bed with Obama. GAG, that thought just made me cringe! The contrast between the two candidates is clear and Palin made it even more obvious. One party is for the people. The other is for the socialist state which our poor country would become under the proud leadership of a no-nothing opportunist named Obama. This is the man who wants to run our lives for us, and level every playing field to a bland state of mediocrity, while he lives the good life off the sweat of our brows.

Just say “no” to the Mr. Zero, the empty suit candidate.

Comment by Mamatx | 2008-09-04 15:59:27

Reading all these comments got me to thinking about the two parties. IMHO there may be some similarities in what has happened in the two major parties.

Reagan was a conservative, but grew the GOP by reaching out to people and treating others with respect. He worked with a Democratic congress and managed to get some things done.

Bill Clinton did much the same thing on the Democratic side. Some of his best work was done when he had to work with a Republican congress.

After Reagan, it seems that the ultra right wing took over the GOP. The party elite seemed to think that they had “won” the culture war and that only their ultraconservative values were acceptable. For example, Republicans who agreed that abortion was not a good thing, but also thought that it was not the government’s business to decide it (but a moral issue) were demonized. I know. I was one of those. Then, they seemed to come to believe that it was their “right” to be in office and they became corrupt (evidence Tom DeLay et al). So “we the people” threw them out.

In their stead, we elected Democrats. Enraged by the way they were treated by the GOP and emboldened by the large margins given them in the election, it seemed to me that the far left elements in the Democratic party became more powerful. Just as the Republicans had forgotten the moderate middle of their party, the Dems seemed to forget they also needed to represent Democratic moderates.

The reason for all this rambling is that much of the time I find that it is women who occupy the moderate, pragmatic, inclusive middle ground in both parties. The hard core ultraright conservatives of the Republican party, if given their druthers, would rather not have a woman–any woman–lead their party. The political reality of being out of power has forced them to welcome Palin lest they remain in the political wilderness.

The Democratic Party elites IMHO, made a calculated decision that they would promote Obama because he is AA and they knew that if they angered the AA voters, they could not count on getting an automatic 90% of their votes. They thought that women would give in and support BO because they would be afraid of Republicans. Obviously many of the attacks on Palin have been directed more at scaring Hillary’s voters than anything else.

So, perhaps it is not a bad thing for Democratic and Republican women to unite behind qualified women whenever we can. We seem to be most able to reach across the aisle and do what is best for America–not just the political party we happen to identify with more closely.

Comments and criticism welcome.

You know what I find appalling. During the primary
those on the left supporting OB, in the MSM and on
the right criticized Sen. Clinton’s foreign policy
creds. Did she not travel to more than 80 countries over time? Between her service as first lady and
senator?
I just had to raise this point of information. Among
those were very harsh critics of Sen. Clinton, now
it is OK to, “only” recently, have gotten your passport for an overseas trip to see the troops in Germany, which is what Gov. Palin did as CIC of Alaska’s National Guard. It is great that she went. OB should have while he was there. But, then again, his trip was primarily was to “look” presidential. When will that stop being the criteria?
What I know, Hillary IS presidential!
Just wanted to share my thoughts among “family”.
We don’t get to vote for Hillary this time. Everyone has to make their own alternative choice about what to do come November
As for Roger’s drivel…its about as sincere as Mika’s. Enuf said.

Well what the media is doing is taking a gamble with Palin supporters as ex Hillary supporter support Palin. I saw so mant tricks with the democratic party.I saw how they talk at the table,I heard it all and it made me sick to my stomach. The treatment that the democratic party let go on and not standing up for their own democratic cause winning was all they wanted and all they cared about.

As Donna Brazile said “I may have to hurt the party before I can unity it” Well that meant hurting Hillary and many of her supporters. And it meant to get back the people who they hurt,Hillarty supporters. NO THANK YOU DNC NOT FALLING IN LINE.!!! Now they want us,Now they run the polls as lies. Now they talk sweet of Hillary.Give me a break.I will never fall in line to a democratic party who took the will of the people.Who held secrt meeting in private before the convention May 31, 08 and calling on all delegates to come and take your vote.A roll call vote in secert. The media of the democratic Party go get her MSNBC CNN .It made me sick to watch all the wrong the DNC laid on the american people as Hillary. Now that we have another great V.P The rummors-lying and the media-press jumping in again on the nasty ways the run their media. Now it’s kind nice but then turns to sour in their ways of talking. They use Hillary still in this. They use her name. They make up stories by placing people in to act as someone they are not.The tricks of their media will never end.

I will never go back.I found a great home with McCain and Palin. And I know Obama is behind the curtains as he trys to act nice but his other half of him comes out.

NEVER OBAMA!NEVER DNC!
