“Do You Understand…

Sadly, the answer from too many people is, “No.” No, they don’t understand the words coming out of my mouth (or in this case, laptop). No matter how many times I have said this: I will not vote for Obama. Ever. See the sidebar on my blog? “NOBAMA.” “I Own My Vote.” “Don’t Blame Me, I Voted for Hillary!” All of that? No, apparently not. I have received SO much pressure to cave, and vote for this man. No matter how many times I say no, and no matter how politely (I am a Southerner, after all), people still try to get me to commit to Obama. Or call me a Republican. I will not, and I am not.
But since no one seems to be able to understand me, let me share with you a piece by Victoria Brownworth (or part of it anyway, from Curve, Vol. 18#8, pp 30-31). Unfortunately, it is NOT online - it was in an honest-to-goodness magazine (apparently John McCain isn’t the only one who is not wired - oh, they do have a website: curvemag.com, but it does not contain the contents of their recent issues. If you want to read it for yourself, I’m afraid you’ll have to go down to the newsstand to do it.)
Anywho, Ms. Brownworth’s article, “My November Surprise: What Will It Take To Get A Real Progressive In The White House?” could have been written by a number of us, I suspect. No, I know. It could have been written by me, at least, at least 2/3 of it. So, here it is, typed out with my own hands, in an effort to get those who are trying to cajole/manipulate/shame/demand I vote for Obama:
It’s a secret I and many women have been keeping, but the time has come to reveal my big surprise. I will not be voting Democrat in November.I worked for Sen. Hillary Clinton’s campaign from February through her withdrawal from the race in June. I worked hard, doing action alerts, writing column after column, alerting the media to information about Clinton’s stances on various issues and calling voters in key primary states. I felt that Clinton was the best presidential candidate the United States had seen in years, and I was excited to work for her.
When Clinton came within a hairbreadth of winning the popular vote (RRRA here - she DID win the popular vote), but the superdelegates went in a wave with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s recommendations rather than their constituents, I was beyond disappointed. I was outraged, and that outrage did not dissipate, as I thought it might, after Clinton did the good-girl thing and threw her support behind Sen. Barack Obama, rather than contest the primary outcome as previous candidates, including Sen. Ted Kennedy, had done.
I assumed that I would feel the way I usually feel when I am at odds with the Democratic Party: disappointed, but nevertheless aligned with them against the Republican candidate.
That didn’t happen this time.
Instead, my outrage grew exponentially as each new story revealed yet another of Obama’s defections from the Democratic Platform. First, it was his embrace of the faith-based initiatives program of President George W. Bush, which has not only failed, but has been grossly prejudiced and bigoted. Then it was his vote for Bush’s telecom immunity in the FISA debate (Clinton and other Democratic senators voted against Bush, so Obama’s assertion that this was the only choice simply isn’t true.) Then it was back-pedaling on his stance on the war in Iraq and a ramping up of the war in Afghanistan.
All those issues affect me politically, not personally, but when I read reports alleging that Obama pays his female staffers markedly less than his male staffers in comparable positions, I was appalled (RRRA here - it is not an allegation - it is a FACT. There are a number of articles on this, including this one HERE along with SusanUnPC’s excellent piece at No Quarter on this topic). Then Obama, who had secured the endorsement of NARAL Pro-Choice America over Clinton (despite his sketchy record on choice and her strong record on the issue), announced that a pregnant woman’s mental illness should never justify a late-term abortion…
…(T)he Democratic Party has consistently disappointed me in the past eight years. In 2000, I felt Al Gore should have fought to be president, since he actually won the election. The United States is not a banana republic; there was no threat of the nation falling into disruption while votes were properly counted and tallied and the actual president was ensconced in the White House.
Had Gore been president in 2000, I have no doubt we would not be in Iraq, even if the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 had still happened.
In 2004, the Democrats disappointed me again, throwing their weight behind Sen. John Kerry instead of Howard Dean (RRRA here - to whom my partner, on a recent DNC request for money, responded, “F–k YOU, Howard Dean!”, summing up my feelings about him perfectly). Four years into the disastrous Bush administration, the Democratic Party went with the safe candidate instead of the progressive, anti-war candidate, once again, moving to the center instead of standing firmly to the left.
Both the Gore and Kerry campaigns were poorly run (RRRA again - that means YOU, Donna Brazile - on Gore, anyway), emphasizing defense instead of offense. Gore should have run on the progressive record of the Clinton administration, of which he was an integral part. Instead, he failed to reveal Bush’s inadequacy, even though Bush was an untested, unproven candidate (RRRA - hmmm - just who does THAT sound like?!?!) whose only political strength was the fact that his father had been a one-term president.
Kerry’s campaign regrettably mimicked Gore’s…
I thoroughly understood Clinton’s frustration during the primary: While she voted and acted progressively, Obama talked hope and change, with nothing to back it up. After she withdrew from the race, he was given his first opportunity to cast a pivotal vote for progressivism and vote against telecom immunity. He didn’t. While Clinton continued her progressive agenda and voted against it, Obama not only voted for it, but asserted that it was a good compromise, the same line anti-progressive Democrats have been proffering for years…
I remember wen being a Democrat meant being for change and actually acting on behalf of it. The first president I actually remember was LBJ, whose War on Poverty and programs like Head Start helped move the nation forward out of the divides of race and class.
There hasn’t been a more progressive American president since Franklin D. Roosevelt; he not only got the country out of the Great Depression, but initiated the New Deal and other safety net programs that would protect Americans if we ever had similar economic disaster.
When Clinton was running, some pundits referred to her as the New Deal candidate with a sneer. But given the economic disaster that the Bush administration has created, being compared to FDR should not have been seen as a negative.
I will not be voting for the Democrats this November. I’d like to, and wish I could, but I can’t. The last eight years of the Democratic Party and its refusal to take on the Bush administration have broken my faith in it…
I won’t deny that part of my decision has to do with the realization that I can no longer continue to vote against my own best interests. I have done that repeatedly, being guilted into voting Democrat when I should have taken a different route. I have argued in my newspaper columns that third party candidates are not the answer, but the past two elections, plus the current presidential race, have made me rethink that position.
The two major parties have failed a majority of Americans, but they have failed queers, women and minorities most definitively…
Vote for yourself this November instead of a party that has failed you. It’s the only way we will ever move toward real and lasting change in the United States. (Ms. Brownworth will be supporting Cynthia McKinney, the Green candidate, in November.)
I will not vote against my own self-interests again. If more WOMEN, in particular, did the same, Hillary Clinton would be the nominee now, if for no other reason than Nancy Pelosi would have supported HER instead of “the one God has blessed us with to us,” or whatever whackiness she said about Obama, and we would have, according to the polls anyway, the best PRESIDENT we have had in years. But no. Once again, the Democratic Party went with the weaker candidate instead of the sure bet.
Here’s a sure bet, though - they will not be getting my vote this year. They have done nothing to deserve it, and everything to make sure I didn’t give it to them.
Now do you understand the words I have been saying?

RRRA: Thank you so much for going to all this trouble to share Victoria’s article with us.
Victoria absolutely identifies a lot of reasons that I, my mother, my sister-in-law, my partner, and so many other ordinary women just cannot vote for BO.
PUMA!!
Hillary!!
RRRA,
I’ve understood the words you’ve been saying all along. You’re a better writer than this woman you quote. You’re know more about the political realities involved (hence you need to add bracketed remarks- like this here one I’m doing), and you’re more fun.
But the more voices, the merrier.
AH, shucks - thanks, No Troll Zone! I appreciate your kind words.
And I’m glad you’ve heard me. Sadly, my family refuses to do so (I’m currently getting a barrage of emails from the brother abt whom I wrote the other day. He has not taken well the facts abt Obama, and has decided attacking me - you know - like the Obama folks do - to be the way to go. Oh, yeah - SO not going to work.).
Kal, I am glad Victoria’s article helped - it is a hard time now, that’s for sure, not just because the person who would be the most effective president has been shunted to stumping for Obama, but because Dems are freakin’ out and getting even nastier. Someone please tell me they, WE, have not always been this bad?!?!
WE have not always been this bad - actually this is my first experience with it being this bad and I’ve been voting for years!
MCCAIN/PALIN 08
HILLARY 2012
I think it’s the younger generation who have gotten the nastiest. As for the rest, I’m still trying to figure that one out! Keeps making me think of Hitler and Jim Jones for some reason.
You know, someone else just made that point to me, too, abt Hitler. It is easier for me to understand now how that happened. I could never see how masses of people were taken in - until now. Scary. Really, scary.
Astra 14, I sure hope you’re right! Maybe it is some of the young folk (I know there are some who come here who haven’t had the Kool Aide), at least in terms of the level of vitriol, that are impacting this election so much. I know for all of these adults to allow their children to pick their choice FOR them is a bit, well, screwed up. But that’s just me…
One other thing abt the young people - our 16 yr old godson was visiting, and had heard nothing abt the “Iron My Shirt” jerk at one of Hillary’s rallies. I said if someone had done something comparable to Obama, and started to give an example, but he came up up with his own, “Yeah, like ‘pick my cotton’ or something…” I knew he got it - and got what she went through. When we got home, he wanted to see it on YouTube, so I found it for him. He was particularly interested in how she dealt with it, so I found a longer version that included it all. He was impressed with her quick thinking and wit. So - SOME of them definitely get it…
Hi,
I am a German living here since 3 years.
What I find weird is, that the people here take it for granted that all Germans were falling for Hitler the moment he entered the political scene.
I am too young to know first hand, but ther were battles in the streets between the brown shirts and the left.
The left youth was actually pretty good organizd too.
Hitler came into power because of the economic situation, the Versailles contracts pressures and maybe on top his speeches.
Here people still think All Germans are Nazis. And that’s it.
He changed the laws after he got into power, this was a very suppressive dictatorship.
The thing is, America has to learn from that without being arrogant by stamping us “all Nazis”.
This all could happen again, right here.
I am very scared of BO, was very closely following the primaries and Hillary.
The caucus fraud, the silence of the media, the fact that he is not vetted.
Sorry. but it actually sounds like a banana republic.
My husband is African American, one that knows Hillary is the best candidate.
He did not watch so much the primaries and goes with the Democratic candidate now.
He says i am falling for the republican tricks by being a PUMA.
Man, I can not even vote, but I am so pissed of at all this.
HILLARYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why can’t you vote? If have lived here since you were three, and you’re married to an American, why aren’t you a citizen yet? Please, you’re better informed than most, but you need to vote.
No, I live here since 3 years.
Not since I was 3.
I am a Permanent resident (Green Card,
but still German citizen.
No, I live here since 3 years.
Not since I was 3.
I am a permanent citizen (green card),
but still German citizen.
I do apologize - I know very well it wasn’t ALL Germans who were Nazis - I know there were many in the resistance. I am sorry I didn’t make that clearer, and hope there was no offense taken! I was using a bit of shorthand, and left that impression. My apologies!
That being said, not all Americans are falling for Obama, either. Thank heavens.
no, I did not take the comment wrong.
But since BO decided to use my hometown as a stage for his BS opera;
The media is always putting out those 200.000 that showed up.
Together with “Obama Obama” shoutings, which I am not so sure that actually occured there.
And making it look like the stupid masses that raised their right arm.
Like Nuernberg 1933 or so.
Berlin is a very liberal city,
Anti-war, multiculti etc.
Also not people who gererally swing American flags (unless it is JFK).
The media there has maybe presented him a certain way and the people were curious.
“First black candidate” always sits well with liberal people.
What I have heard he did not get all that much applause for everything too.
So I am just pissed off this jackass used my city and media here mocks about the 200.000 that showed up (dammit)
And the “German equals Nazi”, ja, I get that from time to time.
Stupid people say stupid things.
Funny you should mention Hitler. While I’m not quite old enough to remember WWII, I do remember seeing the old newsreel clips of Hitler inspiring the crowds of followers. About midway through the primary, I had flashes of this vision everytime I saw the crowds Obama was mesmerizing. Took me a long time to say outloud, “that reminds me of Hitler” because I was afraid people would think I was crazy. I began my search for the truth about Obama about that time, long before I ever knew about blogs, and what I found did not give me comfort. Finding NQR gave me comfort, because I knew I was not alone in my decision No Obama No Way.
Being from Illinois and living in Chicago I learned too early that the dems have always been this bad there, even delivered for JFK at a key moment way back when. Too many crooked politicians there, and lots of bitterness from way back.
RRR Amy:
I second NoTrollZone here !!
Thank you for the wonderful post: you, my friend are heard crystal clear; and I couldn’t agree more with you.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE! MY EMAIL HAS BEEN FILLED WITH LIBERAL DEMOCRATS SCREEMING AT ME THAT I AM A
F—KIN IDOT AND I WAS GOING TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR RUINING IT FOR EVERYONE.
I RESPOND BY SAYING THANKYOU FOR YOUR VOTE OF CONFIDENCE, I WILL CONTINUE MY CRUSADE IN THEIR HONOR AND I WILL ADD THEIR NAME TO MY PRAYER LIST, HAVE A NICE DAY!
Having never been anything other than Independent, I will vote for whomever is best (or failing that, least bad) for the country. Historically that has been a Democrat. Not an Obamacrat. I would have voted for Clinton. I will never vote for Obama. At present, that leaves McCain. So be it. (It looks like McCain/Palin just might be a good choice, rather than least bad. We’ll see.)
Ech. Howard Dean?
Lieberman yes, Dean no.
yes, the Howard Dean comment made me re-think keeping my lunch.
I was very much for Dean at the time, I’m just happy that I was wrong about him and he did NOT win.
An interesting tactic to use to spread the word about many issues raised during the primary campaign and the failure of the media to cover anything that would shed light into Senator Obama’s pattern of behavior or background is to sign up for an account on the campaign site, then go to this webpage:
http://my.barackobama.com/page/speakout/unfit
Ignore the canned message and talking points they have to the right of the website and type in your own message. This will send the email out to all the media outlets listed on the website. It may not get the media’s attention, but it is fun to use their website and tactics against them.
Of course, one of the campaign’s web assaulters will probably be by soon to slander me, inform the campaign about infiltrators using their system against them, but who knows. From what I have read the Senator and his campaign may be so arrogant that they don’t care–they have the talking heads on TV to carry their water for them.
Watch this tribute to Obama from an Iraq War Veteran on Obama’s saying Iraq is a mistake.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG4fe9GlWS8
At my son’s home, I polled 6 life-long Dems who were suffering from the crude fashion in which the DNC advanced a charlatan and ignored 18 million votes. All six are happy to vote for Sarah Palin and a man who’s been there for his country forever. We owe zero to the flash from who-knows-where? funded by who-knows-what? and who ruthlessly ripped the pages out of Democratic Tradition to “purge” the new democratic party of anything that resembled effective leadership? The support we wasted on pelosi & company will be recovered and properly bestowed upon a wise man who recognizes a woman’s worth. You can call me a “C^&t” as long as you pay me as much as the men doing the same job, and stand side by side with me in recognition of my leadership, skills and 51% majority sisterhood. I might think you crude and rude, but I’ll never dismiss your qualification to be President as long as you recognize that any woman with Palin or Clinton’s qualification CAN be the RIGHT woman, and it’s our call, not yours, to elect her!
I will not be bullied, ridiculed, or condemned into voting for the Democrat that the supers choose. Nope. Oh I might be condemned and called a racist, so be it. Still won’t vote for him. I choose MCCAIN/PALIN!
Funny clip & so true. We have spoken loud & clear, but they just don’t get it!
NO OBAMA… EVER!!!!!!!!!
…and, uh, tho’ Brownworth expects she’ll vote Green / McKinney, it doesn’t count until she steps up to that voting screen and actually casts a vote or completes and mails an absentee ballot.
As for all those newly registered eligible voters: Hope they can find the polling place on election day and actually show up. We traditional democratic super voters who have a record of voting faithfully in every election, will be curious about how many ‘progressives’ who were always apathetic about their civic responsibilities in the past will change their voting pattern and actually caste one!
The inability to hear women speak is still infuriating. Despite my repeated loud and clear declarations that I will not vote for Obama because he has betrayed democratic principles and because he is the first candidate to attack not only his democratic opponents but the supporters of his opponent. It would be the greatest act of self loathing to vote for a man who accuses me of being an ignorant, classless racist and wants to bully me for my vote. I, one of millions, who have fought through history for civil rights and women’s rights and used to be considered a valuable member of the Dem Party before this year when I became the mudraker of the Party, a chained dog who apparently can be kicked and kicked but expected to still lick the palm of my abuser. Sorry, that’s not what freedom means to me and I’ll never vote for someone who treats me that way.
My declaration intensifies the abuse that I’ll receive…hardening my choice. Obama is disgusting and he doesn’t represent democratic values. It is a travesty that he has taken over the dem party…hopefully in 2012 the dem party will redeem themselves and ask for forgiveness by nominating HRC by a wide margin.
Amen, Ann!!
AMEN, TOO!!!
Moi aussi!
Yes, indeed, the feeling of constantly providing information but not ever being heard. It is the woman’s lot. My favorite character of Greek mythology is Cassandra, Priam’s daughter. She could foretell the future, but the Trojans would not believe her. Her end was extremely sad. We may all be a lot of Cassandras. Hopefully our future will not be so tragic as hers was; but at least we are NOT “W’s” father. When we say “Read my lips,” we don’t go back on what those lips said.
Nobama, no where, no way, no how–democratic principles above the Democratic Party elite.

ABC News Edited Out Key Parts of Sarah Palin Interview
By P.J. Gladnick (Bio | Archive)
September 13, 2008 - 07:26 ET
A transcript of the unedited interview of Sarah Palin by Charles Gibson clearly shows that ABC News edited out crucial portions of the interview that showed Palin as knowledgeable or presented her answers out of context. This unedited transcript of the first of the Gibson interviews with Palin is available on radio host Mark Levin’s website. The sections edited out by ABC News are in bold. The first edit shows Palin responding about meeting with foreign leaders but this was actually in response to a question Gibson asked several questions earlier:
GIBSON: Have you ever met a foreign head of state?
PALIN: There in the state of Alaska, our international trade activities bring in many leaders of other countries.
GIBSON: And all governors deal with trade delegations.
PALIN: Right.
GIBSON: Who act at the behest of their governments.
PALIN: Right, right.
GIBSON: I’m talking about somebody who’s a head of state, who can negotiate for that country. Ever met one?
PALIN: I have not and I think if you go back in history and if you ask that question of many vice presidents, they may have the same answer that I just gave you. But, Charlie, again, we’ve got to remember what the desire is in this nation at this time. It is for no more politics as usual and somebody’s big, fat resume maybe that shows decades and decades in that Washington establishment, where, yes, they’ve had opportunities to meet heads of state … these last couple of weeks … it has been overwhelming to me that confirmation of the message that Americans are getting sick and tired of that self-dealing and kind of that closed door, good old boy network that has been the Washington elite.
Next we see that Palin was not nearly as hostile towards Russia as was presented in the edited interview:
GIBSON: Let me ask you about some specific national security situations.
PALIN: Sure.
GIBSON: Let’s start, because we are near Russia, let’s start with Russia and Georgia.
The administration has said we’ve got to maintain the territorial integrity of Georgia. Do you believe the United States should try to restore Georgian sovereignty over South Ossetia and Abkhazia?
PALIN: First off, we’re going to continue good relations with Saakashvili there. I was able to speak with him the other day and giving him my commitment, as John McCain’s running mate, that we will be committed to Georgia. And we’ve got to keep an eye on Russia. For Russia to have exerted such pressure in terms of invading a smaller democratic country, unprovoked, is unacceptable and we have to keep…
GIBSON: You believe unprovoked.
PALIN: I do believe unprovoked and we have got to keep our eyes on Russia, under the leadership there. I think it was unfortunate. That manifestation that we saw with that invasion of Georgia shows us some steps backwards that Russia has recently taken away from the race toward a more democratic nation with democratic ideals. That’s why we have to keep an eye on Russia.
And, Charlie, you’re in Alaska. We have that very narrow maritime border between the United States, and the 49th state, Alaska, and Russia. They are our next door neighbors. We need to have a good relationship with them. They’re very, very important to us and they are our next door neighbor.
GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?
PALIN: They’re our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.
GIBSON: What insight does that give you into what they’re doing in Georgia?
PALIN: Well, I’m giving you that perspective of how small our world is and how important it is that we work with our allies to keep good relation with all of these countries, especially Russia. We will not repeat a Cold War. We must have good relationship with our allies, pressuring, also, helping us to remind Russia that it’s in their benefit, also, a mutually beneficial relationship for us all to be getting along.
We also see from Palin’s following remark, which was also edited out, that she is far from some sort of latter day Cold Warrior which the edited interview made her seem to be:
We cannot repeat the Cold War. We are thankful that, under Reagan, we won the Cold War, without a shot fired, also. We’ve learned lessons from that in our relationship with Russia, previously the Soviet Union.
We will not repeat a Cold War. We must have good relationship with our allies, pressuring, also, helping us to remind Russia that it’s in their benefit, also, a mutually beneficial relationship for us all to be getting along.
Palin’s extended remarks about defending our NATO allies were edited out to make it seem that she was ready to go to war with Russia.
GIBSON: And under the NATO treaty, wouldn’t we then have to go to war if Russia went into Georgia?
PALIN: Perhaps so. I mean, that is the agreement when you are a NATO ally, is if another country is attacked, you’re going to be expected to be called upon and help.
But NATO, I think, should include Ukraine, definitely, at this point and I think that we need to — especially with new leadership coming in on January 20, being sworn on, on either ticket, we have got to make sure that we strengthen our allies, our ties with each one of those NATO members.
We have got to make sure that that is the group that can be counted upon to defend one another in a very dangerous world today.
GIBSON: And you think it would be worth it to the United States, Georgia is worth it to the United States to go to war if Russia were to invade.
PALIN: What I think is that smaller democratic countries that are invaded by a larger power is something for us to be vigilant against. We have got to be cognizant of what the consequences are if a larger power is able to take over smaller democratic countries.
And we have got to be vigilant. We have got to show the support, in this case, for Georgia. The support that we can show is economic sanctions perhaps against Russia, if this is what it leads to.
It doesn’t have to lead to war and it doesn’t have to lead, as I said, to a Cold War, but economic sanctions, diplomatic pressure, again, counting on our allies to help us do that in this mission of keeping our eye on Russia and Putin and some of his desire to control and to control much more than smaller democratic countries.
His mission, if it is to control energy supplies, also, coming from and through Russia, that’s a dangerous position for our world to be in, if we were to allow that to happen.
That answer presented Palin as a bit too knowledgeable for the purposes of ABC News and was, of course, edited out. Palin’s answers about a nuclear Iran were carefully edited to the point where she was even edited out in mid-sentence to make it seem that Palin favored unilateral action against that country:
GIBSON: Let me turn to Iran. Do you consider a nuclear Iran to be an existential threat to Israel?
PALIN: I believe that under the leadership of Ahmadinejad, nuclear weapons in the hands of his government are extremely dangerous to everyone on this globe, yes.
GIBSON: So what should we do about a nuclear Iran? John McCain said the only thing worse than a war with Iran would be a nuclear Iran. John Abizaid said we may have to live with a nuclear Iran. Who’s right?
PALIN: No, no. I agree with John McCain that nuclear weapons in the hands of those who would seek to destroy our allies, in this case, we’re talking about Israel, we’re talking about Ahmadinejad’s comment about Israel being the “stinking corpse, should be wiped off the face of the earth,” that’s atrocious. That’s unacceptable.
GIBSON: So what do you do about a nuclear Iran?
PALIN: We have got to make sure that these weapons of mass destruction, that nuclear weapons are not given to those hands of Ahmadinejad, not that he would use them, but that he would allow terrorists to be able to use them. So we have got to put the pressure on Iran and we have got to count on our allies to help us, diplomatic pressure.
GIBSON: But, Governor, we’ve threatened greater sanctions against Iran for a long time. It hasn’t done any good. It hasn’t stemmed their nuclear program.
PALIN: We need to pursue those and we need to implement those. We cannot back off. We cannot just concede that, oh, gee, maybe they’re going to have nuclear weapons, what can we do about it. No way, not Americans. We do not have to stand for that.
Laughably, a remark by Gibson that indicated he agreed with Palin was edited out:
PALIN: But the reference there is a repeat of Abraham Lincoln’s words when he said — first, he suggested never presume to know what God’s will is, and I would never presume to know God’s will or to speak God’s words.
But what Abraham Lincoln had said, and that’s a repeat in my comments, was let us not pray that God is on our side in a war or any other time, but let us pray that we are on God’s side.
That’s what that comment was all about, Charlie. And I do believe, though, that this war against extreme Islamic terrorists is the right thing. It’s an unfortunate thing, because war is hell and I hate war, and, Charlie, today is the day that I send my first born, my son, my teenage son overseas with his Stryker brigade, 4,000 other wonderful American men and women, to fight for our country, for democracy, for our freedoms.
Charlie, those are freedoms that too many of us just take for granted. I hate war and I want to see war ended. We end war when we see victory, and we do see victory in sight in Iraq.
GIBSON: I take your point about Lincoln’s words, but you went on and said, “There is a plan and it is God’s plan.”
Gibson took her point about Lincoln’s words but we wouldn’t know that by watching the interview since it was left on the cutting room floor. I urge everybody to see just how the unedited version of the first interview compared to what we saw on television by checking out the full transcript. It is a fascinating look into media manipulation via skillful editing.

Anon, it is hard to tell just how bad it was, because your post does not include the bold type.
PLEASE EVERYONE GO READ THE ARTICLE AT THIS LINK.
If anyone would like to be blown away at how carefully ABC edited Palin’s interview answers to DELIBERATELY TRY TO PAINT HER AS A WARMONGER, please see this article.
They have bolded the parts that ABC edited out of her responses. They took out the parts where she spoke about diplomacy, they took out the parts where she said she hated war, did not want war, wanted international cooperation.
They edited every bit of that out, only leaving in her more hawkish words without the balance of the rest. The bold print makes it very easy to see.

Reverend Amy, thanks for taking the time to share this excellent article with NQ readers. I’m a Southerner too. When people ask why I’m not supporting BO, I offer them a variation on The Chosen One’s mantra: “This is not the Democratic Party I once knew.” Most know I started out supporting Barack Obama until his shady past and dubious associations caught up with him, hence no one can accuse me of being racist.
Another whacky response straight from Nancy Pelosi’s mouth was in reference to Obama’s hate-filled Church. This piece of drivel came out during an interview with Greta van Susteren last Spring. Are you ready for this? When Greta raised concerns about BO’s 20-year membership in Reverend Wright’s infamous Church, the Speaker of the House said (paraphrased), “I’m just glad he attended Church services all those years.” Well, would the Speaker have been equally pleased had her precious darling attended a devil worshipping church “all those years”?
I personally don’t think Nancy Pelosi is very bright, but that’s just my opinion.
I remember that interview well. Now they are attacking Palin for where SHE goes to church - I guess the same doesn’t count for her…
I lived in Nancy’s district for a long time, and I can verify that she is the dimest bulb in the pack.
I had hoped the much more intellegent state rep Jackie Spier would have run for her spot. But I think Jackie lost some of her political drive when her husband was tragically killed.
Disgusting smear of the day: Sarah Palin molests teenage boys. You wanna be apart of this party?
Watch Video Here: http://countusout.wordpress.com/
Jeez, that’s nothing. Obama molests dogs. Michelle and Oprah.
Ah, good ole misogyny rears its ugly head again. Just because Obama does it doesn’t mean anyone else needs to lower themselves into the gutter. Classless, Johnny, really classless.
Ah yes, the splash of good ole political correctness rears it’s ugly head again.
Classic Boudica, really classic!!
Rhodes is sick and needs mental help like most of Obama’s supporters. As I’ve said, keep it up, that just brings more voters to our side.
thanks for the link…
this, from the crowd that calls hillary a bitch, would have mccain be a paralyzed invalid, and that promises to terrorize ‘us’ as ‘they’ paint the White House ‘black’…
ohh you should have heard the ones they are selling to AA when [DELETED BY ADMINISTRATOR] didn’t pan out, now they are saying palin said she didn’t hire black people.
however, the media is getting on my nerve they are walking in between slender and purposeful information, Don’t get me wrong I know people are naturally biased, And I know that we have and I respect freedom of speech, but when someone deliberately does something to make a candidate look less favorable, for no other reason than they really want her opponent to win, it feels as if they are messing with my constitutional right to make informed decision. And it would be on thing if we had an alternative, but when all 3 major nets and cable news stations are promoting one person, where in the heck do you go to get information. Palin, lives in alaska I live in south Carolina and while i may go online and looks something up, I am single and I don’t have kids, so I have the leisure, to do this, but what about people that don’t have the luxury to find this out. I’m sorry but their something fundamentally wrong going on here, and it stinks like dead fish that’s been in the sun all day. ‘And the twisted part is that they aren’t even trying to cover the smell and then call you racist when, you yak from the stench. If mccain wins this election, the american people need to have a little talk with these newspaper and television executives, this should never happen again! at the very least people should hold the journalist that work for them or that freelance for them responsible for the content of their article cause i’m sick of this. heck i’m sick and tired of being sick and tired. cause it’s been 2 weeks and i’m still ticked at Maureen Dowd’s “over sized igloo comment” No one should be able to get away with picking at a breast feeding mother just because she has a crush on obama.
LOL Maureen is the new obama girl! but if she know what I do she needs to leave michelle’s man alone because Michelle is from the South Side, so if she sees michelle in flats, with carrying a [DELETED BY ADMINISTRATOR], her hair in corntows and no earrings it is about to be on and popping. Run Maureen Run.
God i’m being doofy time for me to go to bed, i have to go back to work tonight.
[ADMINISTRATOR: RACIST NAMES AND REFERENCES ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THIS BLOG. FURTHER, THIS COMMENT IS COMPLETELY NON-SENSICAL. YOU ARE BANNED.]
This video is disgusting! Unbelievable garbage.
Obama belonged to a church for 20 years but he claims he did not share that church’s values. It should not be surprising that he belongs to the Democratic Party, but does not share it’s values.
Ouch Johnny, that was a royal smack down, and I agree with you.
Thank you for sharing.
I too am right there with you, maybe the only difference was I knew Obama and even though i didn’t expect his latest flips on Public Financing and FISA, I’m not suprised considering everything else.
So I’ve known for sometime i wouldn’t vote for Obama, but only until recent weeks have cemented and exclaimed out loud that I will be voting for John McCain.
And, I too have been getting it from all ends, but I guess not a surprise considering we all obviously were some of the Democratic Parties most active and supportive. But my pointing out the lies Dem’s are spreading has not landed me in a good place with most of my previoius aquaintances-their loss. Only one person asked me not to take them off my list regardless of whom I will be voting for. Isn’t so nice that the others conduct themselves this way, but we don’t get upset with their poor judgement in voting for an Empty Vessel.
But I’ve discovered a new voice and am proud to say NO, I will NOT vote for Obama, with an almost “oh heavens no way”. And now my neighbors will probably be putting me on a similar list as I just got confronted this morning with the assumption I was going to be supporting B B and when I said “OH NO, I added I’m a PUMA and went a step further and unregistered from the Democrats after 30 years. My hubby chimed in. She had to try again, “I just assumed, because of your car”. I laughed and said “Oh, no. I’ve followed him early and I cannot support him, especially after how the party conducted themselves.” She then said “well, I’m going to canvass for him”. I said “well, good luck”. She seemed in shock.
I applaude your integrity and standing up for what is right. I know how difficult that can be when all you are faced w is opposition. I discuss politics w very few people. You’ll find few people who will respect your difference of opinion even if you are gracious enough to respect theirs. But good for you for standing up and saying what you believe in-I admire that in people.
Brownworth should realize that using the word “queer” when referring to gays is derogatory.
While I like the main point she is trying to make I disagree w her decision to vote 3rd party. She may as well cast her vote for Obama because that will help him. It’s her vote and she can do w it what she wants but that’s what it ultimately means. So if she really does not like Obama or what he stands for she should rethink her decision.
People are so wrapped up in being a Democrat or a Republican. In the end we are all Americans and should want what is best for our country-to hell with the labels. This is one of the reasons why George Bush got into the WH and why Hillary is not our nominee. The DNC and other Dem leaders figured Dem voters would do what they have always done in the past and cast their vote for the Dem nominee no matter what kind of low life, unqualified scum they gave us. They still don’t believe we won’t vote for Obama on election day even though there are millions of indications we won’t. The only way they will get it is after Obama loses in November by a landslide.
I just got a call from a survey taker and I told them I am voting Republican straight down the line. She asked if I typically vote Repub or Dem and I said Dem. She asked if I thought Palin was a good choice by McCain and I said EXCELLENT. They didn’t ask me anything about Obama so I think it was people for McCain. They also asked if I could change my mind before election day, I said nope.
I was a bit concerned abt typing in the word, to be honest, but there are certainly many within the GLBT community who want to reclaim the word. So I appreciate your comment.
Your WHOLE comment, of course! Linda, you, too! Great story!
Today at 2pm an Obama worker and her teen aged son rang my doorbell. Bold I thought since my yard has “Women for McCain” and “McCain * Palin” signs in it.
She asked me (a registered Independent) if I would consider Obama. I told her no.
Then I took the opportunity to ask her why she supported Obama. She was polite and told me about how he inspired her and that he could bring Peace to the Iraq. I asked how?
There were no answers forth coming. I explained in detail why I support my nominee. She arued that his word hold such promise and that I should have faith in this man. It blew her son’s mind that I knew so much about the War, the economy, Oblahblah’s tax plan, his associations etc.
The poor woman had no depth and her son kept asking questions about what John McCain has done. I told him about the good works McCain has done in the Senate and how he can help to bring our troops home in a safe and reasonable manner.
WHen they left my door I knoew that mom was going to have some explaining to do–she had failed to give the boy Kool-aid and he was open to the discussion.
But no I will not consider voting for Obama. Not now, not ever!
Kudos to you!
What is the source of the complete Gibson/Palin transcript? I am shocked by this but want to be careful as there are no citations anywhere for where the complete transcript came from.
Anybody?

You can see that ABC cut it to hell and took out a lot of her more thoughtful comments.

Obama ran to the left of Hillary to pick up the netroots and then flip flopped on every issue that’s important to them, so I don’t know what the progressives are thinking by supporting him.
For centrists like me, he locked the party into a far left stance too early in the cycle and alienated us by demonizing their champions, the two Clintons, so its pretty obvious we’ll go Republican, especially when the economy and foreign policy are such important issues.
My vote was effectively lost in July 2007 when he called Hillary Clinton “Bush-Cheney Lite” after she chastised him for agreeing to rush into meetings with Castro, Chavez, etc. If the candidate I’m supporting has been accused of being a Republican, then Obama can’t be surprised when I do in fact vote Republican.
Thanks, Anon. This is helpful in trying to dispute attempts by the msm (local newspaper comes to mind) to put out obvious skewed information on Sarah Palin. Today alone, she was misquoted as a war-mongering, unqualified, Christian wacko. Infuriating.
Everyday, Obama endorsing Monterey County Herald, publishes 4 out of 5 letters in favor of Obama and includes sometimes 2 political cartoons ridiculing the opposition along with pro-Dem Op Eds. Makes for some frustrating mornings. Yesterday there were 3 letters complaining of their bias…followed by more Obama huggies…
No longer can it be said that Obama lacks accomplishments. The man has inspired millions of lifelong Democrats to vote Republican for the first time ever—right after the Republicans just got done putting us through the most miserable Presidency in history.
That’s more than an accomplishment. It’s practically a miracle. Maybe he really is The One.

HAHAHA.. this so reminds me of when Bush stole the White house and how he divided the country..red and blue..
now we are being divided inside our party..but it goes even deeper than that..we are being divided ..mothers and their kids..moms are now ..the grinch who stole xmas….women against other women..senior citizens are now evil..lifelong democratic friends..beating up on each other..those of us not supporting Obama because we have done the homework nessesary to know what he is all about..keep getting attacked by less knowledgable democrats..because most of those supporting him haven’t given a shit enough to find out about the guy..
This is all part and parcel of the reason the Dem Party and the media have not vetted legitimately Obama..so people can say whatever they fucking want to with little to no knowledge and who is going to prove them wrong..
So a bunch of assholes can lamblast those who did care enough to do the homework our Constitution demands of us.
Does anyone recognise this tactic????????
( clue for the trolls..Bush/Cheney and Rove tactic)
And who is team Obama using to achieve this tactic..yep you got it..the youth..that have no knowledge of the history behind it!!
Who in their eyes are the bad guys?????? Those of us who have the knowledge and experience and wisdom to know shit when we see it!
The moms and dads..the seniors..the grandparents..the people who have served this nation..
thats who!!
wtf do we know???????
I remember seeing a bumper sticker when my kids were teens..it said..
” I had to raise a teenager to find out how utterly stupid I am ! “
I think it is fitting in this case!!
But I have a clue for this youth,..mommy and daddy are coming home early…with grandma and grandpa in tow..with the way you have behaved and disrespected wisdom and experience and with the nastiness you have shown grandma and grandpa….we will be cutting you off!
You want a new Ipod, blackberry, PC..or car..or college paid for..
Get a job..
There is a new attitude you will be seeing around here..we are in charge.
You will not be playing beer bong with our country!!
AnnieCarmel–it’s the same here in Marin County with our papers. I occasionally get a letter published in the Marin Independent Journal expressing my outrage and the SF Chronicle is just as bad.
I shocked an acquaintance (boomer female) yesterday, who told me how much she detested Hillary during the primary, when I said I’d still never vote for BO and that I like Sarah Palin. She said she’s one of the women insulted by McCain’s pick. Oh, please.
I don’t even dare to put a sticker on my car or a sign in my yard–I had a Hillary sign for months in my yard that kept getting thrown in the street (those Obama supporters are so nice….)
Rev Amy, I forgot to say–thanks for all that typing!
Great piece. There are MANY of us who will surprise the pollsters when we don’t vote BO. My husband and I are staying registered as Dems and voting McCranky. Probably won’t matter here in CA but ya’ never know!
Amy,
Stand your ground! I have faith in you…and I know you don’t wish to be in this position.
As a Tennesseean, I grieved when native son Gore was cheated. Now I have witnessed Hillary being cheated. Three strikes and you’re out…so I will do anything I can to defeat BO!
Thanks Bay Area and Sassy!
I, too, was horrified when Gore was cheated out of the presidency. The NY Times actually DID the recount, and found he had won. Of course, they buried the story. One would think it was their DUTY to make that loud and clear so the RIGHTFUL winner could take his place in the WH, but no. The MSM were in the tank for Bush the same way they are now for Obama. Grrrr.
Thanks for the comments, everyone!
Perry Logan; That is hysterical. lmao Obama The Miracle Worker/swings more Republican votes than there are voters. Maybe the Republicans should pay off his campaign debt for him.

transcript of Pualins ABC interview.
I’m sure this has been posted before but might be a worthy post for any new readers or anyone who hasn’t received this through e-mail. Snopes.com confirms this to be true:
Editorial by Dr. Jack Wheeler
The O-man, Barack Hussein Obama, is an eloquently tailored empty suit. No resume, no accomplishments, no experience, no original ideas, no understanding of how the economy works, no understanding of how the world works, nothing but abstract empty rhetoric devoid of real substance.
He has no real identity. He is half-white, which he rejects. The rest of him is mostly Arab, which he hides but is disclosed by his non-African Arabic surname and his Arabic first and middle names as a way to triply proclaim his Arabic parentage to people in Kenya. Only a small part of him is African Black from his Luo grandmother, which he pretends he is exclusively.
What he isn’t, not a genetic drop of, is ‘African-American,’ the descendan
