Impending Electoral Disaster: NY, NJ, MN, PA, OH, MI

New York New Jersey Minnesota Pennsylvania Ohio
McCain-Palin 41 45 45 47 48
Obama-Biden 46 48 45 47 45

Barack Obama is not the “map changer” CNN and all the discredited Democratic blogs claimed he would be; he is a supercilious underachiever who promises to color the entire nation red, not blue. He is tied with McCain in Minnesota and Pennsylvania; he is trailing McCain in Ohio AND MICHIGAN; he is CLINGING to a lead in New Jersey; and women in New York state are abandoning the Democratic ticket, thereby catapulting McCain-Palin within striking distance of Obama-Biden in a state Gore and Kerry won by 25 and 17 points respectively: portentous numbers, these, but the Democratic Party refused to listen when we warned them about this during the primary season. Democrats, I guess, want to lose. Indeed, they seem to enjoy it.

So now Obama must invest precious and finite resources in states such as New Jersey and New York. And instead of campaigning in Arkansas, Nevada, Florida or Louisiana, he will hold events in Minnesota, a state that should be solidly Democratic in the current political climate. He may even have to campaign in New York now that McCain is within five points of the underperforming Obama. A Democratic strategist quoted in the New York Post article I cite above summarizes this state of affairs succinctly. I quote:

“If it winds up being tight in New York, that means McCain wins the election nationally,” said a prominent Democrat familiar with some of the polling data.

I hope Nancy Pelosi, Howard Dean, Donna Brazile and all the venal bloggers and operatives who manufactured support for Obama online are satisfied. For once McCain wins, and he will win, it will be time for real Democrats who enjoy winning elections to reform OUR presently defunct Party apparatus from within and from without. We have worked too hard for this Party to allow them to squander opportunity after opportunity in order to satisfy the warped desires of a small band of elitist mediocrities who again and again take those of us who comprise the Democratic base for granted.

I’m a huge McKinney fan, but the idea of turning NY red in a protest vote sounds awesome. Don’t think the repubs could pull it off, though, too many upstaters have fled south for jobs/retirement.

They’re still in the denial stage of their grief…from the Obamabots I know, they’re saying that Obama’s supporters are all young and have cellphones, THAT’S why they’re not included in the polls. You wait come November, Obama’s gonna win!

And I think a pig just flew by my window…with lipstick on.

There’s a smile on mine too! :-)
I always felt that there is a large conservative base outside of New York City. Even New York City is not just Democrats. Remember, Pataki ran the state for 12 years until 2006. His Successor Eliot Spitzer… well, what can you say about a democratic reform candidate who pledged “to change the ethics of Albany” and then turned out to be just another dirty politician.

His successor started his time as Governor admitting to extramarital affairs.

And some of you people would be surprised if voters in NY would not flock to a reform candidate who promises the world and pledges “to change the ethics of Washington”???

That’s certainly true. If this trend holds for the next six weeks, then Hillary will be in the catbird’s seat for 2012. Just imagine the waves of recrimination that will ripple throughout the Democratic Party after a McCain win.

“Oh Hillary! We’re SO sorry. We let ourselves get taken in by this shameless shill and treated you like dirt. PLEASE come put this party back together!”

You guys need to move away from the Howard Deans and Nancy Pelosis of the world, and losing the election will give moderate Democrats all the excuse they need to clean house.

Comment by mcpalin hill | 2008-09-15 20:33:51

dan — I think Hillary will be the new majority leader of the Senate if the Dems hold the Senate - heads are gonna roll in the party and anyone who was not involved in this debacle will be rewarded.

Comment by Dan | 2008-09-15 21:39:04

You may very well be right. I would definitely love to see Hillary replace that scum-sucking dickhead Harry Reid as majority leader.

Comment by JozefAL | 2008-09-16 01:42:56

As I noted on another blog entry a few days ago, Hillary will be in a very tough bind even if she’s offered the post of Senate Democratic leader. First off, she will have to make a BIG decision regarding 2012. Her current Senate term ends Jan 3, 2013. If she decides to run for President and wins the nomination, she’ll likely have to resign from the Senate. Bob Dole did just that in 1996 after clinching the GOP nomination and many Democrats were concerned that Dole might be tempted to use his position for political gain. Given that precedent and the standard overriding fear that Hillary’s “too ambitious”, there’s little chance that Hillary would remain in a Senate leadership post. (There is, of course, the possibility that New York allows a candidate to run for two positions at the same time, but I don’t think Hillary would want to face the problem of running 2 campaigns against 2 different candidates for 2 different jobs.)
The second problem as I see it is that no Senate leader (either from the majority or the minority) has sought to run for the White House, so soon after assuming a leadership post (much less when he would be in a position whether to keep the Senate seat or go for the White House). If her fellow Democrats are certain that Hillary intends to run for the White House again in 2012 (presuming that Obama loses this year), they would most likely NOT want her as their leader–nothing against Hillary per se, but they’d likely want someone who’d be more willing to stay in the Senate for many more years; most of those who ascend to a Senate leadership role tend to have been in the Senate for well over a decade.

Don’t forget the Kucinich people they flocked to the Obamamites party in droves because they would NEVA and I say Neva vote for a HAWK like Hillary.

fuckers!

I love McCain/Palin more and more everyday!

If Tina Fey will do regular appearances on SNL that’s worth a vote for McCain/Palin right there. Don’t you think?

Comment by Clinton Fan | 2008-09-15 21:20:26

The brutal irony is that, if the ticket were CLINTON-OBAMA, every single one of those states would be won in a walk by the Democrats, and we’d be looking forward to sixteen years of Democratic executive leadership.

Instead, the Democrats, my former party, are so hell-bent on being RIGHT that they’ve separated from the constituents that gave them power in the first place. Instead of a victory, they’ll be lucky to hang on to the legislature and make a few small gains there.

Comment by Leisa | 2008-09-15 21:59:57

That is just what Hillary proposed in March… Obama and his surrogates just laughed at her then.

I want to know when Slate will put up an Obama campaign death watch similar to the one they had for Hillary… I don’t think it will ever happen… I wonder why?

Comment by Danny | 2008-09-15 22:36:10

Comment by lusitania | 2008-09-15 22:20:06

Well, while I do believe that a Clinton-Obama ticket would have won hands down in a landslide, I still believe that Obama is a loser. I would like to see a better AA candidate win the presidency or vice presidency some day. Someone the whole country can point to with pride. Someone with an actual record of accomplishment, someone who earned the job for him/herself through hard work and hard knocks. Someone with character and integrity. Unfortunately, Barry is not the one.

Also, I don’t think Hillary is actually :loving this shit!!” I believe she must be very, very sad…and depressed…more for our country than for herself at the moment.

But there are enough Upstate New Yorkers left who wont vote for Obama.

Most of the over 40 crowd I talk to whether at work or personal friends are NOT voting for Obama. Their main reason: his inexperiance scares the bejesus out of them. They think the top of the ticket should have more experiance than the bottom.

Yep we are hicks, but we know Obama is not the one to lead this country.

Lived in NY for 47 years and have been saying since April if they continue to screw Hillary and Bill they just might lose in NY.

D’Amato, Pataki, Guiliani and other reps have won repeatedly. Same with California - Arnie got the Gov job there, business as usual, may the best candidate prevail. American Independent voters are all the rage in this age of cynicism towards candidates and party line, it is the new norm.

In a close race like this we aren’t married to our party affiliation, there are too many factors, many of which involve our national safety and our wallets, to just blindly vote Dem.

NY’ers are high information voters, they also love their senator and that guy she married.

In the next few weeks we should pummel the swing state newspaper editorials and blogs with our messages. The obots are paid to, we do it FREE.

How about Hillary as Senate Majority Leader? That would crush Obama like a tissue. Not only would he have to deal with a crushing presidential defeat, but now has to serve his last year in the senate under Hillary’s leadership thumb. I think Obama would resign before having to face that.

Lefties Entering Stage 2 of Dealing with Loss: Anger

And threats. Oh, the threats.

Stage one was denial.

Now we’re at anger.

Did I mention: Threats?

Maybe it’s a transitional thing between stage 2 and stage 3: Deal making/bargaining.

I disagree with many of his sub-points, but Russ Smith touches on an emerging storyline: the certain combination of acute anger, despair and bitterness on the left if McCain’s late comeback snatches victory away from Obama in the homestretch of this incredibly long and intense campaign. The response to Kerry’s defeat was muted by the fact that few liberals were especially smitten with him to begin with. But the fallout this time could be pretty raw stuff.
Plus: Dark hints that an Obama loss can only be explained by prejudice. And what implications does that have for society? Better to not find out, I’d say.

Barack Obama for President

Or else there will be “raw stuff,” if you know what I’m saying, and I think you do.
