What Rev. Martin Luther King Stood For and What Obama Hasn’t Got

Martin Luther King said he dreamed of a day when a person would be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin. That day has obviously not arrived for Obama, his campaign and those in the DNC, who think making an issue of race and using it to try and intimidate weak minded people is the way to win the election.

When I interviewed Marc Rubin recently, his comment opened a door to a truth many media blowhards would rather remain closed: that the media playing the race card now is just as baseless as their rapt musings about Obama were then, when ‘Obamania’ began at the start of this most bizarre and outrageously corrupt election year.

It is heartbreaking that ‘pols’ like Kansas Governor Sebelius would imply that people are not voting for Obama because they are racist. Senator Obama’s own running mate, Joe Biden, can’t quite seem to get on the bandwagon, grasping at straws to promote Obama, telling southern voters they need to vote for him because he is black.

What about voting for someone based on whether they are qualified to do the job? Isn’t that what the great Reverend King was asking for? Isn’t that what he lived and died for?

Senator Clinton just said she wanted to be judged on the merits: character, record, actions, behavior.

Well, how is Senator Obama stacking up on the ‘character’ front that Rev. King found so important? Frankly, character seems sorely lacking in Obama’s instruction to his supporters to ‘get in people’s faces’ and the mounting evidence that his campaign is behind the viral hatred directed at Governor Palin.

Biden let slip that even he thought Obama’s ‘email ad’ re McCain was hitting below the belt — then he got taken to the woodshed and Biden’s talking points have once again been ‘adjusted.’ Biden, surely not the most silver-tongued devil, has to run around making the most of a candidate it is evident even he does not know what to do with.

And now, in the midst of a horrible financial crisis, Obama’s response was, “Congress will call me if they need me.” I forgot – he is the ‘delegater’. So as the standard bearer for the Democratic Party, he wants no part of assisting in a bi-partisan solution to an incredibly serious problem. When exactly is he going to start showing off his consensus building skills on the Senate floor?

He criticized McCain for wanting to postpone the debate a few days – meanwhile McCain has been after Obama for MONTHS to have joint town hall meetings to debate the issues and Obama couldn’t be bothered. Now suddenly when he’d have to roll up his sleeves and do some work, he’d rather debate. What happened? Had he already memorized all his answers to foreign policy questions he thought he was going to be asked? Meanwhile the debate went forward as planned. What was all the fuss? A lot of posturing from Senator Obama, and little problem solving.

McCain, by actually showing he cared enough about the American people to suspend his campaign and get back to Congress and work across the aisle, as he has done many times in the past, made it clear that Obama, in contrast, is just about “me, me, me.”

Rev. King said:

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

There’s that pesky character question again.

The DNC was so sure that Senator Obama’s deep pockets and romantic rhetoric would sweep into the White House and usher in all the down ticket Dems with him. The media, along with the cowardly and corrupt DNC party leadership, got to exorcise their Clinton Derangement Syndrome as a perk, so they were more than happy to play along.

Despite the polling sample manipulations and gyrations, it is very clear that this race is too close for comfort. Historically, we know that Senator Obama over polls and he has a bad habit of not being able to close the deal.

So the media, and Obama’s campaign have fabricated a great cover story: race bias is keeping his numbers from breaking 50%, despite all his money and a fawning press. Senator McCain, who used to be a press favorite, is now, along with Gov. Palin, enjoying some of the disgusting one-sided treatment that Senator Clinton was ‘privileged’ to receive. Wait. I take that back. NOTHING could be as bad as the daily flogging Hillary had to put up with. But it’s close.

While I don’t doubt that there are people influenced by race bias in this country, clearly, we have discovered there are far more misogynists out there. The difference is, racism is not acceptable in polite society. Sexism is — the sky’s the limit! Obama used that to his advantage.

And how would Rev. King judge Senator Obama’s statement that he’s not the kind of candidate you are used to seeing on the face of a dollar bill? Obama has been playing the race card to his advantage, too. What is the content of Obama’s character that he would turn his ethnic background into a political parlor trick?

Just as is trying to avoid dealing with the current economic crisis, back in February Senator Obama was all talk, too, promising that he would filibuster on FISA if necessary. But on July 9th, it was Hillary who voted to protect the fourth amendment. She voted to stop telecom companies from having retroactive immunity on their warrantless wiretapping. Obama rolled over. So much for his filibuster on FISA.

Didn’t his thoughtless capitulation anger his supporters? To the contrary, they are furious with us for not falling in line and supporting him, no matter how skewed we think this contest was or how cowardly his behavior. I have been waiting for a real leader, with character, to emerge. Thus far, I have not seen one in Obama.

Looking back, what if Senator Obama had staged a filibuster on the floor of the Senate the morning FISA was to come to a vote?

Can you picture it? The great orator would stand and speak on behalf of the American people and fight for a righteous cause. He would look every Senator in the eye and make his case. Some of them might look at the clock, seeing lunchtime tick by as he spoke without a break. Late into the afternoon, he would not yield the floor. He’d talk himself hoarse.

And then, a woman would stand up – Joan of Arc in a pantsuit. “Have some water, Senator, yield the floor to me. I’ll keep going.” And he’d nod, and take a drink and she would continue the fight while he took a break.

If any of you have any doubt that this lady, no matter their differences, would have stood side by side with Barack to do this – you don’t know Hillary. You don’t know who she is or what she has stood for her entire life. She’d speak effectively and passionately until her voice caved. Maybe Senator Feingold would pick up the baton. How about Senator Patty Murray, perhaps Senator Shumer or any one of the 28 Senators who actually voted to protect our rights…

It wouldn’t matter. What would matter is the spectacle of Barack Obama – not necessarily leading the parade, but being one of a hard working team, willing to go down fighting for a principle.

Character.

Can you imagine it? Can you imagine the publicity? What if it went on for a couple of days? The Senate session heard around the world. A romantic notion perhaps: a good old fashioned filibuster. A bunch of well paid, well-heeled Senators willing to put something on the line and talk till they had no more spit and stand there and sweat for the American people. And then when Barack got his wind back – he would continue.

Would it even matter if he or they convinced enough Senators to vote their way?

Rev. King also said:

All labour that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.

Obama would have shown the American people and the world something much more important than making a fancy speech at the Siegessaule in Berlin or standing in front of 75,000 and some faux Greek columns at Invesco Field. He wouldn’t be playing President. He would be exhibiting real leadership.

And character.

That’s a ‘uniter.’ Someone who does more than pay lip service to a cause on a teleprompter, but a person who is actually willing to risk something for an ideal. For us. Despite his inexperience and every other reason I have not to vote for him, if I had just once seen THAT guy, I might have taken a second look. But we see on the economic crisis, he once again tried to avoid making a commitment.

A teacher of mine once said “character is as character does.” Obama’s character told him, ‘If I can’t win, I won’t fight.’ Remember how he took a powder on the voters of West Virginia and Kentucky, for example? That tells me he does not have what it takes to be the leader of the free world. It is precisely his go-along-to-get-along-pandering-throw-anyone-under-the-bus attitude that makes it clear he hasn’t the backbone to take care of me or this country.

In our interview, Marc Rubin also said that Obama’s race baiting:

[Was] a sign of desperation and reinforces the truth that Senator Obama has nothing to say and nothing to offer. We have many, many African Americans who have been elected to public office — mayors, governors, members of Congress, members of state legislatures, and none of them had to use race as a tactic to get elected. All were elected on their merits and won re-election or were defeated based on their performances. In the end the more Obama uses race the more he is telling people he has no game.

I think, Reverend King might have found this statement from African American candidate for Congress LTC Allan West appropriate:

My advice to Senator Obama is to run as a Man and Leader, and the American people will evaluate you as such, not as a victim. This is a Presidential race, based solely on a capacity to lead the United States of America. It is not about skin tone…however, perhaps we should come to expect these immature statements.

It also seems rather humorous that the Presidential candidate who was supposed to be such a “uniter” and transcend race is the one talking about it the most. If Senator Obama was confident in his abilities and character, he would not need to create a crutch for failure. Senator Obama has just tipped his hand, any criticism of him and his policies will be directly attributed to racism. I congratulate Senator Obama for taking race relations in America back some 30 years.

We see very clearly Obama’s unwillingness to go to the mat for anything. Not even the economy he promises to change. The Democratic Party is neck deep in this – doesn’t he want to clean up the corruption there, too?

Perhaps Senator Obama was terrified of returning to Washington because he would have to commit to a plan and take a stand. He cannot vote “present” as he did in the state legislature. No more lofty rhetoric. But a plan of action – NOW. And if he is wrong, he will finally be cornered, as he has avoided being cornered thus far in his political career, by avoiding tough votes and decisions. President Bush called Obama back to Congress. Harry Reid’s protestations were not enough to protect Obama from having to do his job.

On FISA, if Senator Obama had thought enough about the American people to risk taking a few days off from campaigning in order to roll up his sleeves and work, and fight, how much do you want to bet he’d have taken a giant step towards pulling in some of the 42% of Hillary supporters who refuse to vote for him?

As to the current crisis, perhaps it is once again easier to hide out and deflect blame. But playing the race card won’t help him this time.

Character is as character does.

Doesn’t quite match up to Reverend King’s standards, does it?

Very great piece! But I know why Obama is pissed off that he can’t debate!…Damn it people this is the first test he’s crammed for in years, and if he doesn’t get to tell somebody those Foreign Policy facts by Friday, their shelf life might expire. Life comes at you fast, and the world is ever changing, and who the heck knows what might happen in a few extra days, somebody else might set off a bomb, invade a country, Osama bin Laden might send Fox News an Endorsement tape for Obama, we need to get the foreign policy debate over so he can replace all those foreign policy facts with Wall St./Main St. facts, WTF people, don’t you know how many people have been helping me study for this damned thing? I bet he is wondering if he can have the guy he’s been practicing on all week stand in for McCain on Friday! Afterall, there never gonna miss him in Congress this week, he can send in his “present” vote, or have a proxy do it for him.

I thought his comment that Congress would call him if they needed him [for the economic mess debate] was telling. He seems to think his responsibility extends only to pushing a vote button. His main responsibility as a US Senator is to get in there, debate, mix it up, represent his constituents and be engaged in the decisions a deliberative body is supposed to make. He seems to think all he needs do is visit DC in case of a tie.

What kind of leadership is that?

Exactly his idea of “community organizing.” We’re seeing more of it in Washington. For a nonracial example, look at the Medicare bill that was passed a few years back. It started out with, “we need to help seniors afford their medications” and ended with over $600B to big pharma. This is how Obama operates only everything he does is racial because that “community” is his hook. We need to pay more taxes for medical, housing, education - all good stuff - but his actual concern is getting earmarks for “his” constituency, and I don’t mean poor black people. He doesn’t want to end corruption or reform the mismanagement of the budget. He just wants a piece of it.

The Obama camp’s playing of the race card seems less strategic than compulsive.

I wonder what the accusations and innuendo about race have really accomplished for the Obama campaign, other than poisoning the atmosphere of the nation.

Using the race card helped to create PUMA, suggesting it is not such a productive strategy. And I’ll bet countless voters, who are in no way racist, will not vote for Obama because they were accused of being racist.

So the method is obviously counterproductive. I can only conclude the Obama gang behave this way compuslively…or they have the election rigged and don’t care how they behave.

How bad does it look when George Bush has to tell you to get movin’?! Where Bobo is being affected by racism, it is largely his own fault. He’s feeding into sterotypes of laziness, uncertainty, and victimhood by refusing to act on the present crisis. He’s letting white men like Matthews, Olbermann, and Cafferty defend him with condemnations on his fellow citizens, as though he’s so perfect that no one could possibly find any other reason than racism to vote against him. This just looks like more affirmative action and will stiffen spines against him. He is the most flawed Presidential candidate in history and would have been driven from the race months ago if he were white. The polls claim he is tied or slightly above Mac, so what’s all the panic for? Apparently, he knows these polls are as phony as we do!

I think Obama has the election rigged. He’s had ACORN members registering people in every state in the union. If the election officials in your areas are not on the ball, Obama will be the next president.

I wish all states required identification but some states have passed laws that allow people to vote with no identification. I think this is a mistake but who am I who didn’t graduate from an ivy league college to say. I am so sick of the elitists running this country into the ground. We need real patriots in office to get our America back on track.

I think a picture should be taken of people who have to fill out a provisional ballot. Someone needs to be arrested for trying to corrupt the elections. We need to somehow stop voter fraud. I think voter fraud is the only way Obama wins.

Hello… a machine that can scan fingerprints. It doesn’t have to keep the voter there at the poll while it scans the print, the voter could still vote…but, if there is fraud, the print would erase ALL votes associated with the print. If we can create a genome project, we can create a voter/fingerprint bank. We give folks ayear or two to go the DMV or Voter office and submit to a thumb print that is linked to that voter. Since we do early voting, and absentee ballots, we ought to be able to allow voters who know how they want to vote, to vote early, and for those diehards who wish to wait until election day, then they could do so…and I don’t want to hear about the cost. This couldn’t be any more expensive than any of the other methods…or are current Wall St. bailout.

The biggest problem is that Acorn and other such groups have made a point of registering illegal aliens for over a decade now. They have been caught on tape telling them, ” You don’t have to show any ID other than a phone or gas/electric bill, just check the box saying you are a citizen.” At least that is the case in California, no proof of citizenship required, just check the box. Poll workers and monitors have no control over this situation you cannot require proof that the person has the legal right to vote. And how many Millions of illegal votes will be cast for Obambi? Will this election be stolen, absolutely. And it is another area where the DNC is guilty, they likes of Pelosi (who would lose millions if she had to pay real wages to citizens in her vineyards and hotels) and Reid know what is happening and with the help of their pals at the ACLU fight every bill, motion, etc. that would require a person to prove thier right to vote as a CITIZEN of this country. But that lends itself to the One World Government that the New DNC promotes with it’s puppet Obambi.

Character and Senator Obama are polar opposites. And I think at his age his character is set; molded not by the words of Reverend King but the words of Reverend Wright. And in this I think Soertoro/Obama is right to stay away from events honoring Dr. King, when he doesn’t believe in Dr. King’s ideology, because it would be a form of blasphemy.

And, although he has never been secretive about his attraction to Malcom X and Louis Farrahkan (he talks about it in his book), he has donned the traditional Christian mantle without seeming to realize how diverse the Christian religion really is.

It’s hard to be a successful pretender.

Black Liberation Theology is just that: Black Liberation Theology. It is not Christianity. Christianity was started after Christ’s death, and it is the Teachings of Jesus Christ. As a Christian, I am tired of hearing that Obama is a Christian. He is a Black liberation Theologist. If I admire Bono from U2, and buid a church where I supplant his words into my sermons, and advertise myself as a follower of Bono-based Christianity, I am no longer following the Bible- because it clearly instructs us that we are to add nothing to, nor take away from God’s word, nor Christ’s words. I would, in fact be a follower of Bono.
MLK would not be one of Obama’s mentors, because he has cleary limited his mentors list to include only terrorists, communists, socialists, and marxists…I don’t understand why they don’t get why mainstream Americans don’t support him!

Liz, you’re perpetrating a falsehood about Christianity and the Bible. The Bible does NOT instruct us “to add nothing to, nor take away from God’s word, nor Christ’s words”. The reason the Bible doesn’t say this is because the Bible as it currently exists is the product of a meeting roughly 300 years after Christ’s crucifixion. That meeting most assuredly “took away from” God’s word and Christ’s words and added much as well. NONE of the Gospels were written within Christ’s lifetime (the earliest, in fact, is dated to no earlier than 3 decades after the Crucifixion) and there’s no certainty among Bible scholars that ANY of the Gospels were written by people who ever met Christ personally. The books of the Old Testament were not formally written down until roughly the fifth century BCE and, it should be pointed out, there were several writers responsible for producing the works–check out the Book of Genesis, chapters 1 and 2 to see the first obvious contradiction in the telling of the Creation story. Another glaring problem lies in the story of Noah and the Ark–the first reference includes the standard “gather animals, two by two” account, while the second notes that the “clean animals” must be taken in groups of seven while the “unclean animals” are to be brought in by the standard pairing (the problem here lies in the fact that the whole matter of “clean” and “unclean” animals is not mentioned until the Book of Exodus which took place centuries after the events of Noah’s Ark). Then, of course, how is it that Moses is able to recount his death AND burial in the Book of Deuteronomy if Moses is accepted as the author of the first five books of the Bible (as tradition holds)? There are plenty of other such gaps in logic that would doom a writer of contemporary fiction, to say nothing of non-fiction (well, aside from the collected writings and ramblings of Ann Coulter.
Furthermore, Christians themselves do not agree on what IS and ISN’T part of the Bible. Catholics accept a large number of books that Protestants do not (these books are collectively known as the Apocrypha by Protestants) and, it’s worth noting too that the very order of the various books of the Christian Bible do not match the order of the original Hebrew text. (Hell, even the Ten Commandments as presented in Exodus are structured differently in Catholic Bibles than they are in Protestant Bibles. And Jews, of course, would note that the very existence of a New Testament proves the failure of Christians to adhere to the concept of not adding to God’s word since they went and added a whole new section.)
Then, of course, we have the matter of the various translations. Many evangelicals refuse to accept any version other than the KJV (which itself was not used by the Puritans who used an earlier version, commonly known as the Geneva Bible–the Puritans, both in England and the Americas, regarded the KJV as a form of heresy). Even Thomas Jefferson created his own version of the Bible, eliminating anything in the New Testament that was not directly spoken by (perhaps more accurately, attributed to) Jesus (Jefferson also excised virtually any reference to Jesus’s alleged supernatural abilities–the raising of Lazarus, the miracle of the loaves and fishes–as those conflicted with Jefferson’s preference to the scientific method and rational thinking).
The simple truth is that it’s not the Bible which instructs us not to add to or take away from God’s or Christ’s words. Those instructions come from mortal fallible men who seek to impose their will and their interpretation on the rest of the world. (Example: When it comes to the issue of homosexuality, the Bible actually says nothing about it. NOT ONE WORD. The very term “homosexuality” was only invented less than 150 years ago. The sin of Sodom had nothing to do with sexual behavior–the city was quite simply evil. You might want to recall that Lot offered his virgin daughters to the mob yet Lot was spared the city’s destruction. If the mob were there to sexually assault the “visitors”, surely they would have accepted the offer of a pair of virgin women; otherwise, the city didn’t need the wrath of God to destroy it, the city would have simply died out from the inevitable decline in population. Then, there’s the Book of Leviticus with its “abomination” declaration. The trouble with that is that God never speaks on the matter Himself. All those laws regarding abominations are pronouncements made by MEN who dare to state what God wants. As to the New Testament comments by Paul, the actual Greek term used refers to a type of prostitution that was common in the Near East around temples dedicated to pagan deities, especially fertility gods and goddesses. The cults of Ishtar/Astarte typically required their “beautiful” adherents, both male and female, provide sexual services to anyone who requested such service at least once a year in order to prove their loyalty and devotion to the Goddess. It was this type of promiscuous behavior that Paul feared would corrupt the young Jewish sect* especially when trying to increase its followers among Gentile populations; Paul believed that many of the new believers would fall back to their old ways if such behaviors were allowed to take place near the new churches.)

Barack Hussein Obama is an embarrasment to America.

When I think that this man, who has no authentic qualifications nor accomplishments for the position of the CEO of a company, let alone the President of the United States of America, is the Democratic Nominee, it literally makes me feel ashamed for our country.

John F. Kennedy, who Barack Hussein Obama so fondly likes to compare himself with, would be shocked to find that this pseudo “leader”, this make-believe nominee is this close to being the leader of the Free World.

I’m sure that the John F. Kennedy who loved his country and hated communism, would be appalled to discover that a communist like Obama was mascarading around as a presidential nominee.

No Experience. No qualifications.
No character. No loyalty or love for this country. No Obama. No way. No how.

Sarah Heath Palin is EVERYTHING Barack Hussein Obama wishes he was and pretends to be.

MLK had a number of good things to say besides “I have a dream…” It looks like a lot of people’s minds stopped right there and didn’t go on to the character part. By all means bring up more of his ideas.

As to OJ–he also has nothing but the race card and has been caught in plenty of sleaze since he got away with murder to spite white people. One of the witnesses against him who has already copped a plea is AA, too.

Since we first saw this post, we’ve had the O. jugend singing, the boys in their stepping routine, the great VP debate, and OJ’s jury is out atm with the latest rumor being that the witness I mentioned was setting OJ up.

Can we get back to MLK and some character examples? Gee, I remember how Hoover and others hated him, as virulently as we have seen Hillary and Palin hated, people wanted to nail him for communism and other things, but no one ever called him a quitter or motivated by money or power, or hatred.

Not only have Obama and his minions strayed from Dr. King’s vision of judging by content of character and not by skin color but Opampers has used race to divide peoples for personal gain like Adolph Hitler did. This race dividing is obviously a disservice to all peoples and has already succeeded in helping Obama to steal the nomination. Obama continues to divide us so if he goes any further and gets the presidency America will have in essence our first dictator. He would be “elected” but under the worst circumstances imaginable: coat-tailing off of MLK who I am certain is rolling over in his grave over what Obama is doing!

Adding salt to our open wounds Obama likens himself to MLK and JFK. My comment factors in what Obama’s surrogates and supports are doing since he will either not speak out against these nefarious tactics or at best issue a lukewarm request the activities stop all the while with a nod and a wink for his evildoers to carry on full steam ahead.

There will be fallout to what Obama has done. Will it set back the dream of MLK irreparably? I hope not but most assuredly Obama has damaged the dream at its core.

I think it’s quite sad that the majority of the black community has forgotten what MLK stood for. And it isn’t Obama. Playing the victim gets you sympathy for awhile but people soon get tired of it and expect you to get off your ass, bite the bullet and get on with your business. Everyone has a sad story they could tell whether it’s racism, sexism or some other “ism”. So fucking what?? GET OVER IT. Do something constructive w all that hateful energy and do something positive to change things. Sitting around pissing and moaning about something that happened decades ago is not going to change that it happened. It’s useless and pointless. And people are damn sick and tired of hearing about it.

MLK would be ashamed.

Ani, this is a great post. The reference to Benjamin Franklin in France is especially poignant. What a contrast to the European tour of “The One”. Of course the crowds came out. They were offered free food and a rock concert. How many do you think would have come out for just Obama and no refreshment or entertainment?

Dr. Martin Luther King,JR. didn’t need free food and rock stars to gain the following of so many white people. His words meant something. Not like Obama’s empty blathering.

I am so glad that the president ordered Obama baack to Washington. He so arrogantly told John McCain NO I will not interrupt my coaching session for the debate to help settle a crisis situation that could send the financial markets into a further tailspin.

Who is the statesman here? Who’s decision was presidential? Obama thinks he can call the shots in any situation because if he is crossed he shouts RACISM. Come on back to work, Bambi, and if you lose your train of thought for the debate, I am sure you will have plenty of help during the debate, as per George Stephanopolis helping you over the freudian slip of “my muslim faith”.

Thank you, President Bush, for reminding Obamaa that the taxpayers are paying him to sit in the senate and not cram for a debate. No one had to tell John McCcain that his job wasa to be in Washington during this trying period.

I am sorry Missippi and the University but if the debate has to be postponed, isn’t the country a little more important than your planned event?

This is the way I see it at this very moment. We will have to go into a depression. No other way out. For many reasons. The bailout is too onerous to accept.

The only way out of going through a depression right now is that McCain can work out legislation that breaks down the 700 billion into a few proportional packages where the money can be put to work efficiently for the banking industry. What we need to save is the banking industry. I think the security derivatives will have to take their fate that they are almost worthless because they are too complicated to rescue.

Unless McCain works out a compromise legislative balance, a depression is almost certain.

Actually, I saw Newt Gingrich last night on Fox, and he has an excellent alternative, and it would not bottom us out in the process. Mike Huckabee, and several others are on board.

OMG, I am listening to Oblahblah on Fox at the CGI, and his telepromptor is not rolling fast enough, he has had to pause to wait for it several times, and it is hysterical. I just wish the damn thing would shut off, or start reading something totally obscure. Too funny, yet too sad. Folks wake up! this jerk off might be our President in 40 days. Who would have thought George W. staying for a third term would seem like a better alternative, that even I would embrace with enthusiasm, and I can’t stand that dumbass.

I know why he has been pausing…he has been waiting for applause that has not followed his talking points. The applause must have been anticipated, but it didn’t happen.

I hope I’m not the only one who thinks that one of the main reasons Obama won’t go to Washington and get to work (besides the fact that he has no clue about working across the aisle an trying to fashion a deal with the opposing party) is that he really counted on these next two days (Thursday and Friday) to bone up for the debate - he can’t afford to stop preparing - and, of course, winning for him is more important than a financial meltdown of the country.

Following the death of his father, Tim Russert, with all the accolades bestowed on him (Tim Russert), all I could see was his sneering face and gleeful expression while he was dissing Hillary Clinton in the debate. Up until that time I was a great fan of Mr. Russert, and never missed “Meet The Press”. After that debate I despised him and never watched his program again. He was unnecessarily vicious that night and I saw a side of him that scared me. That a person who was so well respected could be so vindictive. But then, I guess there are two sides to everything and everybody.

As for you, Luke, do you mean to say that all of us who are not voting for Obama are not smart? I understand that you just graduated from college. Does thaat make you smarter than those of us who graduated a while ago, or not at all? A lot of people who couldn’t afford to go to college have had life experiences that make them a lot smarter than you ever will be, unless you change your attitude. You may be riding on your father’s coat tails now, but sooner or later you are going to have to prove yourself. As is Obama.

I just heard/saw a bit of a new Obama ad on CNN re: McCain doesn’t believe in equal pay for women. What caught my attention was the really thick West VA (code white trash)accent on the white lady making the pitch. Honestly, I could barely understand her. Is this Os way of reaching out to us ingnorant white women who just dont “get it” yet? Very sensitive. And yes, I remenmber a recent NQ article about how McCain, Obama & Biden pay their female staff members.

The difference in income for males and females is the strongest argument against Obama and Biden.

Years ago when I did my MA thesis on Sex role Stereotyping — we used various arguments to get students to understand how gender role stereotyping is harmful.

Wage disparity was the one argument that the students could understand — the bottom line of sexism in America is still the wage disparity between men and women workers.

I hope that McCain or another group does an ad about the difference in staff wages of McCain — & Obama and Biden. The Dems say one thing and do another.

I am white. A friend of mine forwarded to me an email with the following comment.

But there is a gnawing suspicion that I cannot shake, that if Obama loses, it will be due primarily to his race.

I responded with the following:

I am quite sick of being accused of not voting for this man simply because he is black. In this campaign his blackness has become a huge issue to me simply because his supporters are using it to race-bait voters into choosing him out of some sense of race related guilt.

I was born in Hawaii, just as Obama. When I was a year old my parents moved from Hawaii and settled in Richmond, CA where we were the only white family in an entirely black neighborhood. I grew up thinking it was no big deal at all to be where we were; our friends were black — parents and kids all associated with one another and we enjoyed our life in Richmond for years. The first girl I ever had a crush on as a child was black. Later, after my parents divorced when I was 11 years old, my mother remarried and my stepfather was an Hispanic from Mexico. As kids we learned a lot of Spanish from him and spent a great deal of time with his entirely Hispanic family who also lived in the same area. As an adult I have, and still do, financially and vocally support racial tolerance and anti-racist hate organizations to make sure that our nation does not stand one minute for racism. The Obama folks that use race-baiting in this campaign infuriate me to no end because not supporting Obama has nothing to do with his race and has everything to do with his lack of character judgment on who he spent all his time with in politics as well as his lack of experience in getting anything done.

To dismiss Obama’s past — his perpetual social climbing activities that had him sleeping with the slimballs of Chicago — simply because he can shoot his mouth off as if he were God himself is blatant blind adoration of words without foundation. Obviously people are not looking into Obama’s life or they would find a whole heap of shit far beyond just his nasty associations that continue to this day. I find it amusing that so many democrats are terrified of Sarah Palin. And I find it completely disgusting that democrats did not come to Hillary Clinton’s defense throughout the perpetual sexism that was coming out of the Obama campaign. I will re-register as an Independent after this election because the Democratic Party has lost me due to their blatantly insane pick of Obama over Clinton. But the most damning thing to Obama at this point as far as I am concerned is this insane race-baiting crap. Now I will never vote for him simply because I will not allow anyone to force me to vote for a man to be president simply because he is black. Race-baiting has become rampant in the pro-Obama democratic party and it will result in a big loss for him. Tell your friend to keep it up if he wants to see race become the major issue that he and others are making of it. I don’t care how many people accuse me of being racist; I know who I am and I could care less who thinks what of me.

Everyone has a right to vote for whomever they like but they do not have a right to race-bait. Shame on anyone who does it.

And so on. The lynch mobs could be a thing of past in USA, but the police murdering Blacks and mass powerty are STILL here. MLK would fight it . You would condemn him. Fair enough. But Obama is NOT MLK, he would NOT fight it. But still, he is not good enough for you. I wonder, why :)

I long ago resigned myself to the annual gaggle of fools who deign to use King’s “content of their character” line from the 1963 March on Washington so as to attack affirmative action, ostensibly because King preferred simple “color-blindness.”

That King actually supported the efforts that we now call affirmative action–and even billions in reparations for slavery and segregation–… matters not to these folks. They’ve never read King’s work, and they’ve only paid attention to one news clip from one speech, so what more can we expect from such precious simpletons as these?
