Media Bias * Open Thread

How many times a day do we all comment to each other, and to our friends, about the biased reporting going on in this campaign?

The SAME media that sold the American people on the Iraq war is now selling us on Barack Obama. We know where the first sales job got us: In a war we didn’t need to begin (although, imho, now that we’re there, we’d better not leave it in a mess). NOW the media are telling us that Barack Obama is the “second coming” and has nothing good to say about John McCain and Sarah Palin. (And look at how the MSM are mostly handling the longtime Ayers/Obama relationship: “Nothing to see there. Move along now.” It’s infuriating.)

How dare we the people allow the MSM to do this to us again. This is the same thing they did with George W Bush. It took 5 years for the MSM to actually start asking real questions. Who suffers through this, US. I email the media over and over , in hopes that one of them will feel some guilt or remorse and actually start doing their job. At the end of the day, we must remember they have a job to do and sometimes it benefits them to have someone that is incompetent.

The SAME media that sold the American people on the Iraq war is now selling us on Barack Obama.

The question to ask is who are their masters? Who is really pulling the strings? I never thought I would see such entrenched evil in my country! The Fourth Estate is morally bankrupt and must be held accountable!

MSM sells their bias on Obama to the world!

I can read Chinese, and I read Taiwan, China and Hong Kong versions of google news everyday. The sources of their US news are NY Times, CBS, CNN and AP!!!

The MSM doesn’t have a clue

The crowd showed equal disdain for the media, fueled by comments from Palin, who encouraged the Republican supporters to take the campaign’s message around the media. “I can’t pick a fight with those who buy ink by the barrel,” she said. “It’s dangerous territory whenever I suggest the mainstream media isn’t asking all the questions.”

That message was clearly shared among the crowd. Mike Payne, who traveled from Madison, Wis., for the rally, rejected the idea that McCain’s supporters are angry, preferring to use the word “frustrated.”

“It might have something to do with you guys,” he told a reporter.

“It’s not anger at all. It’s frustration. There’s millions of people around the country that think like we do. You guys refuse to acknowledge that, and you insult our intelligence by misreporting the information. You are treating [Obama] like he’s Britney Spears and covering him like he’s Paris Hilton, instead of the next president of the United States, potentially.”

Obama is also backed by the far left such as Ted Kennedy and Tom Daschle.
It should be no suprise to see the media supporting him.

Can we stop the trope that Obama is “cool and collected” in this financial crisis? Obama is clinging to his TelePrompter and paralyzed by fear! He criticizes McCain’s suggestions without offering alternatives of his own.

McCain’s two ideas this week — 1) buying up mortgages and 2) suspend mandating selling of 401ks — they were both good ideas which could interrupt this panic and restore stability. McCain is nimble in a crisis and can lead us. Obama is brittle and stiff, just like Herbert Hoover.

Comment by scrootyfrooty | 2008-10-10 21:00:48

Yes, it is infuriating. I don’t expect that it will change before the election.

I do know this: Everybody is hearing about Ayers. They are hearing about the connections that Obama has to ACORN. They are understanding the Obama connection to Odinga. Wright hasn’t been brought up enough, but I’m hoping that it will also.

If the MSM is biased and most of the polls are conducted by those individuals, the polls are likely to be biased as well.

People are pissed off at the economy, but the economy is the fault of our entire government, as well as wall street, and lots of greedy individuals.

People WILL get tired of hearing Obama constantly try to sidestep every bad choice that he has made in his career. People WILL get tired of the lies and deception. We don’t want our friends to be people that we cannot trust. We don’t want our president to be someone that we cannot trust. If an individual doubts that the candidate has the best interest of the country in mind, he/she will not vote for that candidate.

There is still a decision to make in November and it is becoming increasingly clear to the average person that there is no honesty or integrity in Obama.

The one thing that we cannot do is think that poll numbers should cause us to stay home on election day. Polls mean nothing!

From your link here is palast:

GREG PALAST:

And why don’t the Democrats protect voters? Because they’re in on the game. As you saw in New Mexico, you had Democratic Party officials knocking off the Native American vote, which is huge in New Mexico. It’s a swing vote in New Mexico. And they’re all Democrats—Native Americans—almost to a one. But they wanted to stop a uranium mine locally, and so the local policy want their baksheesh from the uranium mine are knocking off Native American votes. We see this in Colorado, we see this in Florida, where local Democratic officials are in on the purge, in on the game, trying to block the low-income minority voters. There are so many dangers now for the new voter, for the minority voter, for the elderly voter.

I’ve been making that point for awhile now. The media is just sucking up to the next powerbase since it’s seemingly set up for a dem sweep. When McCain wins watch how fast they start sucking up to the “Maverick”.

My 86 year old mom, a staunch Southern Democrat, voted today by absentee ballot as she has a hard time getting to the polls. She voted for McCain/Palin and also a straight Republican downline, as she is disgusted with the Democratic party.

I NEVER thought I would EVER see my mom vote Republican. I can’t believe that she is the only one out there this election year. Don’t give up hope.

Guys, I’m really starting to lose hope here. I think the battle has been lost and we are going to see the impeachment of President Obama as all the shit that the MSM has carefully hidden from us this fall comes out next year. I expect we may well see President Biden by Christmas, 2009. But I no longer believe that we are going to be able to overcome the Blame McCain for the Economy And Everything Else media machine before November 4.

Comment by WasLNbutNoBamaBotsKeepStealingMyName | 2008-10-10 21:22:02

John, who knows what will happen. It’s still a ways off till Nov 4th and a lot can happen till then. There are the 18 million disaffected Hillary supporters. There are also tons of folks out there who are voting McCain and just don’t say so, for fear of being labeled racist.

So many factors…it’s definitely going to be interesting.

I do know one thing however, no matter what, nobama will NEVER be my president and I will continue to fight, as I know others here at NQ will as well, for America’s freedom

Yes, Susan, the media followed GWB blindly into Iraq without questioning anything. Later when it all started to go very badly, they were stepping all over each other trying to make excuses for what they’d done. They are doing the very same thing now. The media isn’t asking Obama any questions, blindly accepting him at face value. I wonder how they are going to square it with us if Obama wins, and it all goes badly again (and it will)?

This Media Matters blog argues that the media bias is actuallyt for McCain and, as an example, explores John McCain’s close relationship to G. Gordon Liddy—another “unrepentant terrorist” who plotted to kill one of the most respected journalists in American history, and who urged listeners to kill federal agents and advised them on how to do so:

The truth is that when John McCain says “jump,” the media still ask, “How high?” Think about this: When was the last time McCain or his campaign has wanted the news media to focus on something, and they have refused? From “lipstick on a pig” to Bill Ayers, the media have scampered after whatever mud McCain has flung, like a puppy dog chasing a stick thrown by its master. Sure, sometimes they have pointed out that McCain is lying — and that’s tremendous progress for a profession that has spent a decade flatly asserting McCain’s honesty.

Perry — as someone who lived through the Nixon/Liddy era may I point out that you and your sources exaggerate on the brink of outright lies when you say he “plotted to kill a journalist.”

The plot you talk of was a discussion over dinner with Hunt when Liddy misunderstood what Nixon mean by “get rid of” the journalist. Nixon immediately disavowed Liddy of this misunderstanding.

Liddy was an FBI agent in his early career — the idea that he would seriously tell others to kill Federal agents is ridiculous.

But since you’re making comparisons between Liddy & Ayers, let’s go item by item:

1. Ayers helped build Obama’s Chicago political career. Liddy did not do this for McCain.

2. Ayers’ various groups received government funds with Obama’s political help and influence. Liddy had no such financial connection with McCain.

3. Ayers and Obama sat on many boards together. Ayers even mentioned Obama in his own book. No such connection for Liddy-McCain.

4. Ayer’s group is repsonsible for killing and maiming bystanders. Liddy’s actions during the Watergate break-in did no such thing.

5. Ayers never served time for his crime. Liddy served time for his crime.

Barack Obama’s newly appointed Muslim outreach adviser is coming under fire for meeting with Islamic groups with extremist views, just two months after her predecessor resigned over links to a radical cleric.

Minha Husaini met with members of several Islamic organizations in Virginia on September 15 — including some that terrorism experts say have ties to Hamas and the radical Muslim Brotherhood.

Among the attendees were senior members of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which was listed by federal prosecutors as an unindicted co-conspirator in a terror-related trial.

Several people connected to CAIR have been convicted of felonies — including on terrorism-related charges

The media got mad when they found out Edwards had lied to them about his affair but Obama lies all the time and they give him a pass. They are screwing the country by doing this and they don’t give a shit about it.

I just don’t see how we can fight them. The democrats lie repeatedly on television and the people fall for it, they thrive on the lies. All this truth is out there and they don’t care. They say we are republicans making it up.

Reverend Wright-He didn’t hear it.Then says yes he heard it.
Father Pfleger-He didn’t know it until he knew it.
Ayers-He didn’t know it?
They call it the political silly season, only problem is we have been trying to get the media to report the truth for months and when they finally do, political silly season?

I am not angry because of McCain’s ads as the media says. I am angry because the media is covering up the truth. Did you notice they don’t play the guy asking Palin how do we get the media to tell the truth? Palin said I can’t go up against the people who buy ink by the barrel, we have to do it. I wish she would tell us how.

Comment by mimi | 2008-10-10 22:04:37

Frankly, I don’t think Edwards’ sordid affair was exposed in retribution to the anger the msm felt towards him about lying. I really believe that 0bama and his people dropped the dime on Edwards’ affair.

I believe Edwards had made a deal with 0bama for a Cabinet Post, probably Attorney General and 0bama never had any intention of honoring it, not wanting to be tied to Edwards in any way. So they sic’d the Nat’l Enquirer on him giving 0bama and the DNC the leverage to distance themselves from Edwards and keep him from appearing at the Convention.

0bama and the DNC did everything possible to have a closed Convention. That’s why Hillary didn’t get a roll call. As it was, 0bama had to begrudgingly share the spotlight with Hillary and Bill. He didn’t want any stubborn Edwards supporters raining on his already cloudy Convention parade.

I also think that many in the media already knew about the affair but had no specifics to report so they left it alone, especially after Edwards dropped out of the race. After all, most media budgets didn’t have the money to spare by putting a reporter on the story, especially with the Primary and the Presidential Election.

That’s why I think someone put the tabloid on Edwards’ trail. Someone made a phone call.

Furthermore, I don’t believe that the msm is naive about 0bama. They are doing their masters’ bidding. They will change only when ordered to do so.

This is what has been exposed about the 4th Estate, to my way of thinking. I have accepted that I can no longer rely on what any of them are reporting. That the real info is hidden beneath the surface, that it must be sought out through due diligence.

I think the reason we are here at noquarter is because we know this already. So I wish people would stop lamenting about what’s going on in print and on the air. We should be passed that by now.

Follow the money…..

Whoever signs the checks of the people working in media ( they no longer deserve to called journalists) are giving the orders.

It’s time we identify them and their agenda!

Comment by Angel | 2008-10-10 22:12:03

Considering that’s been his M.O. in every election he’s ever campaigned in, it isn’t a stretch at all to believe it was 0 that dropped the bomb on Edwards. It’s the ONLY way he knows how to operate.

I strongly believe that the Uhbama campaign is just trying to psych us all out. They don’t want us to vote…they want us to feel defeated. After visiting ABC.com, MSNBC.com and CNN.com tonite I was so angry at what they choose to put up at top stories.

I am done saying that I am going to do something…I am done complaining.

I am going to the GOP/McCain office on Monday. I wanted NC to go blue when Hillary was around, now I will be damned if this state is going to be anything other than red. I have always voted Dem…now I wonder what the hell I was thinking! I think I was drinking the juice all along. I vote on character and record from now on. This year though, it is straight Repub all the way!

I hope that McCain does the 1/2 hour ad like Uhbama. I hope that McCain goes on and outlines all the reasons why he should be president. Palin should be on there too talking about how she could never vote for someone with a background like Uhbama’s. McCain should start out by saying how he has been nothing but transparent and is going to give all of us some straight talk!

I had a strong desire to let it rip and tell him how pissed I am at the DNC.

But then I quickly decided …. TO LIE.

I told him I was unable to volunteer due to personal reasons but they could count on my vote.

So the guys says - “You’ll be voting democrat down the ticket then?”

“Oh yes I will!” (Lie - I’m voting against every super delegate holding elected office who voted for Obama).

Why did I lie? To mess with their expectations in my swing state of Florida.

I told her that she is the most naive person in the world if she thinks that his coverups are NOT lies and after I continued to verbally assail her with facts and figures, she finally hung up saying “Im sorry you’ve believed wrong information”.

I guess they have no brains to actually discuss those pesky facts, huh?

I’m confused and sick over this - AOL’s headline says “Panel Finds Palin Abused Her Power”, saying,

Sarah Palin unlawfully abused her power as governor by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper, the chief investigator of an Alaska legislative panel concluded Friday. The politically charged inquiry imperiled her reputation as a reformer on John McCain’s Republican ticket

I’m stunned, absolutely stunned.

The world has gone mad when a police officer can commit unlawful acts and still patrols, a Presidential candidate can be caught in lie after lie about his association with anti-American, anti-white radicals, convicted felons, unrepentant domestic terrorists, corrupt organizations that engage in fraud that threatens our election system - and this only scratches the surface of his nefarious activities - and a good, righteous woman is deemed to have abused her power.

Rezko, Wright, Ayers, ACORN - all swept under the rug with nary a murmur while pundits are calling for her to resign over this. What the hell????

I was mad before.

Stop reading the propaganda they are spewing.

Comment by Angel | 2008-10-10 22:03:34

It was one of those things that caught my eye and set me off Galt. I don’t buy into the propaganda - I knew it was coming. Knew it. But still seeing it, just really pissed me off.

I remain committed and strong in my belief that McCain & Palin will triumph over this obscene corruption. Kinda stubborn that way. :)

I don’t think they are reporting that correctly. It has been covered on tv and they found that it was her husband that abused the power and she didn’t stop him. I read the story back when, before the dems got a hold of it and the guy said she didn’t fire him over the cop. Of course he is going to change his story now, he is a dem. I don’t know a dem who does not lie, not one.

Ayers is akin to Timothy McVeigh. The last time I checked, Liddy didn’t set off car bombs in the US.

Comment by 30yrdem-not any more | 2008-10-10 21:56:01

You know this Ayers stuff has really brought back feeling about McVeigh. So many died that day. Obama was friends with a man just like him. Makes my eyes tear up to think American’s think this is ok. What has happened to my country?

Comment by beebop | 2008-10-11 07:36:25

Obama is STILL friends with him. 0bama only distances himself for the madding crowd.

No but Liddy was arrested behind the grassy knoll deressed as a hobo near some box cars that day in Dallas.

LOL.

I am a work at home employee, I am also a self-professed political junkie. I watch a little of each of the three major cable news networks, all day long. I can tell you with a degree of certainty that Democratic official guests on the networks are getting few and farther between. Yeah, we are hearing from the old regulars, but I am not seeing too many of the big names out there defending any of BO’s shenanigans. They are all busy trying to cling to their own jobs. I’m guessing by a week before the election, they will be throwing BO under the bus.

obama broke his promise to take public financing because his campaign is fueled by a dollar or two donations from grassroots supporters:

Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama Joe and Jill Biden at Obama fund raiser in Chicago.

Pool report: Michelle Obama and the Bidens at Women for Obama, DNC Women’s Leadership Forum
National Womens Leadership Issues Conf., Sheraton Hotel Chicago
About 1,000 women from around the countrying paid $2,500 to $28,500 to attend.

Oprah Winfrey spoke first - we were not admitted to that.

Or maybe not so much. Funny how oprah didn’t want reporters to hear her pitch do wealthy donors.

If troopergate is all the media has on Palin than I’m very confident and pleased.

There’s no comparison between a governor “abusing power” to protect her sister and nephew and a senator abusing power by rigging elections, buying homes he can’t afford through crooks and getting positions for unqualified cronies….and cavorting with crooks, terrorists, racists and anti-Americans.

Bring it on!

PUMA!!!!

what i can tell you is i have monitored the corpmedia worldwide for BO “progressives” in the USA for some years, but stopped about six months before this campaign began because i suddenly realised they weren’t really progressives, if you know what i mean.
;
like many of you, i also stopped reading kos, du, tpm, raw, bradblog, thinkprogress, americablog, huffpo, long before the walkout. but i cannot tell you how good it made me feel when the walkout occurred. it helped me regain my faith in thinking dems.

however, i’ve monitored all the media during the campaign and realised the fix was in early on as all the rightwing corpmedia worldwide was with BO from the very start. BBC is one of the worst offenders. if you search their archives you will find nothing positive about mccain, in fact very little reporting on his campaign at all. search BO and you will find hundreds of glowing articles and multiple endorsements by celebs, yet very little on policies.

i still cannot believe a majority of dem voters over 30 would vote for BO, so the amount of fraud necessary is huge. the polls have been faked and the corpmedia has a lot of input in calling the elections, so here’s wishing you strength and courage as you enter the final straight. get the reformers in the white house and then demand reform of the corpmedia, the elections and the financial system. good luck to you all.

Need Proof

The American voter has had lots of Whitey tapes in the guise of Ayers, Rezko, ACORN, caucus fraud, flip flops on GE financing, Iraq, Iran, Rev. Wright & Phleger, Larry Sinclair, and so on. If the public is so guillible to elect a socialist, marxist candidate, then this country deserves this Chicago thug!

Hillary Supporter for McCain

New Democratic Majority

Obama should be ahead by 10 points, but he isn’t. Why? Despite McCain’s flawed candidacy, most Americans do not trust Obama. We have the most serious economic crisis since the great Depression, and everyone is having second thoughts about America’s Castro.

McCain Debate Line?

The PUMAs seem to like this. It seems to be a three-for: 1) Knock Barack for his odious and still unexplained associations with terrorists, radicals, Chicago fixers, and PLO spokesmen, 2) Embarrass the media and also note that Hillary Clinton had these same complaints, and 3) Reach out to PUMAs and remind them of Axelrod’s and the MSM’s shabby treatment of Hillary Clinton.

“If the media had been doing it’s job in this election, the American people would be choosing between me and Hillary Clinton on November 4th.”
That’s from exDemocrat.

Obamas association with Ayers
Fri, 10/10/2008 - 17:47 — dilly (not verified)

Obamas association with Ayers should be considered an asset and not a liability. It shows he can work with terrorists. It will be useful in dealing with Iran, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

Comment by soldier4hillary | 2008-10-10 22:11:39

Our country is going to hell. Now associating with terrorists are a plus. They are losing there minds. Whats next? Rehabilitation? Do these people get these are our ENEMIES!! This is the Democrats fault for getting on television basically saying terrorists like Ayers are non issues and unimportant.
