This is the acknowledgement that Larry C. Johnson received for contributing, at the Founding Member level, to the Martin Luther King Foundation. It was a very large image, and tough to reduce without distorting the text. I hope it is readable.

It is important for me to tell you, because he rarely ever mentions it, that Larry is one of the most generous contributors to charity and to people in need that I have ever met. He donates to innumerable charities, including many that help the families of soldiers injured or killed in war. He has taken in both relatives and friends who needed a place to live for a while. (More about Larry’s generosity is below.)

The “Dream” statement is below, enlarged:

Then there’s this blog. Not only does Larry make NO money from this blog — let alone any of the writers — it runs in the red all the time. It’d blow your minds to know how much the servers and software assistance cost monthly. We get very few ads; we make a pittance off the Amazon ads (but so appreciate your clicking on Amazon here so we get those small amounts, which do help!). We would have had to shut down a long time ago except for your donations and Larry’s own generosity.- Susan

I’m afraid this isn’t very clear either. I trust you can read it though:

Quotes:

***

“We need a President who is experienced, who is tested, who has the ability to work with both sides, and that’s John McCain, not Barack Obama.”

***

“I think John [McCain] understands from his years in the Senate and the House that you have to reach bipartisan solutions, and that is so necessary right now. You can’t govern from the left or right, you have to govern from consensus, from the middle.”

***

“I think there is a big difference between the rhetoric and the actions of Barack Obama and his campaign. It is true that he tries to talk a sort of post-partisan rhetoric, but the reality is he’s one of the most partisan members of the Senate, with a left-wing voting record, and very much the product of Chicago machine politics.”

****

(On “spreading the wealth”:)

“It is one thing to have a progressive income tax, and to say, well, in pursuit of getting the necessary revenues for the government, we’re going to have some division between people making a lot of money and people not making a lot of money. That’s one thing. It’s another thing to say, however, that you’re going to use the income tax system, not necessarily just to get revenues for the government, but to redistribute money from one class to another…The reason we have taxes is to raise revenues for the government. If we want to have some division in rates because of wealth or whatever, then fine. But when we don’t need revenues anymore, we don’t raise taxes, we lower them. But he [Obama] wants to raise taxes so he can transfer wealth, so he can transfer income.”

****

“People who truly believe in reform, like campaign finance reform, have got to be enormously offended at what he [Obama] has done. He promised to abide by campaign finance reform, and as soon as he realized that it might advantage him not to, he broke his promise. Which is a pretty good indication of what he’s going to do if he ever becomes President.”

****

(On Biden’s statement that Barack Obama will be tested:)

“That was an extraordinary statement. Now Biden is trying to get out of it by saying well, every President is tested. Not correct. First of all, John F. Kennedy had far more experience than Barack Obama. No comparison. John Kennedy had traveled the world; Barack Obama has never been south of the border. John Kennedy had written on American history and American policy; Barack Obama has written about himself. And John Kennedy had been in the Senate more than twice as long as Barack Obama and held hearings to reform our labor laws; Barack Obama hasn’t done anything like that. So the comparison is a terrible one to start with.

“But the reality is, when we elect a President who has been tested, we don’t get tested. Nobody tested Dwight Eisenhower, and nobody tested Ronald Reagan. And nobody’s going to test John McCain. Because they know he’s ready for it. That doesn’t mean we don’t face risk under John McCain; of course we do. We’ve got terrorists out there who have terrible intentions toward us. But Joe Biden is telling us that we risk some kind of incident or attack with Barack Obama being elected. Now why the heck do we want to take that risk?”

***

(On why McCain is gaining now in the polls:)

“He [John McCain] now feels to most people like a much sounder choice. Whether they’re Republicans, Democrats, independents, or nothing at all, he just seems like a much more sensible choice.”

“Maybe this all comes down to, ultimately, Americans prefer authenticity and someone who’s genuine. And I think that they increasingly have gotten the sense that Barack Obama is very very scripted and John McCain is very much for real.”

***

“John McCain spent more time in the Hanoi Hilton than Barack Obama has spent in the United States Senate.”

***

“We’ve got a chance to elect not a Republican or a Democrat. We’ve got a chance to elect a great American. We shouldn’t lose that chance.”

***

“I find Governor Palin to be very bright, very energetic, really a terrific person…I like the idea that she has executive experience. She brings something to this that you really need. After all, she has more executive experience than Barack Obama and Joe Biden combined. They’ve never run a city, a state, a business, or a military unit. She’s done three out of four, and John McCain’s done the other. And she right now is the governor of a state where she’s one of the most effective governors in the country and one of the most popular governors in the country, and that’s where we usually look for our presidential candidates. So I think when people raise her qualifications, my answer is, gosh, if you’re worried about her qualifications, then you sure as heck can’t be voting for Barack Obama. He has less experience than she has.”

This is ALL to the good ultimately, and our services will improve dramatically soon, but it has certainly been quite the weekend, hasn’t it.

What a wonderful group of readers you are. Your e-mails of genuine concern have been VERY heartening to all of us, and I hope we responded to each of you.

GOOD NEWS: We are publishing stories at our regular pace again, unless there are the occasional hiccups through tomorrow afternoon.

THANK YOU ALL! These are not easy times for any of us, and we need to be here for each other — spurring each other on. And No Quarter and all of its writers wish to be a big part of disclosing what is REALLY going on in the presidential campaign, and beyond.

Your insights in your comments add great depth and insight to our stories, which are really, after all, just springboards for you to jump off!

(And special thanks to our WordPress expert who has put in QUITE a weekend.)

(bumped up by SusanUnPC from its morning spot because this is yet another of Bud White’s great investigative articles that you’ll want to read and share with everyone)

The lines of evidence now converge: the founder of ACORN is Wade Rathke, who, like William Ayers, was a member of the Students for a Democratic Society. The Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), the student organization founded in 1960 as part of the New Left, was the gateway drug to the Weather Underground. In the early sixties, the SDS was idealistic and many reluctantly supported Lyndon Johnson for president in 1964, and grainy black-and-white pictures show clean-cut men and women registering southern blacks to vote. Tom Hayden was amongst this group. But that was then.

By 1969, their Great Society liberalism had been co-opted by Marxists, Maoists, Spartacists, and other assorted revolutionary groups. They were no longer interested in change, but overthrowing the government. It was during this time that Wade Rathke first came into contact with Bill Ayers.

Much has been made of Obama’s questionable judgment in befriending and working closely with unrepentant terrorist William Ayers. Regardless of what Obama says, his political career was launched in Ayers’ home, Ayers served with him on Woods Fund, and promoted him to head the Chicago Annenberg Challenge.

The founder of ACORN, Wade Rathke, like Ayers, is a disciple of Saul Alinsky. Working for ACORN was an important step in Obama’s political career.

An article by Professor David Walls directly connects Rathke’s ACORN to Alinsky, ACORN’s mission of pressuring banks to issue risky mortgages, and the alliance between ACORN and unions:

ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, began in 1970 as a spin-off from the National Welfare Rights Organization, founded by George Wiley, who enlisted civil rights workers and trained them in an Alinsky-influenced program at Syracuse University. From a base in Arkansas, Wade Rathke and Gary Delgado developed a replicable model of forming membership organizations and developing leaders in low-income neighborhoods — relying substantially on young middle-class staff working for subsistence wages. ACORN has established local housing corporations to rehabilitate homes, and has successfully pressured banks to provide mortgages and home improvement loans in low-income communities. ACORN has led “living wage” campaigns in many cities, and has forged alliances with labor unions.

But ACORN isn’t just Alinsky-inspired. It’s a direct off-shoot of his revolutionary agenda:

Around 1970 several national networks began to coalesce and develop systematic and distinctive approaches to community organizing. These include the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF), ACORN, Citizen Action, National People’s Action, PICO, DART, and the Gamaliel Foundation. Each was indebted, in greater or lesser degree, to Alinsky and his early organizing programs in Chicago through IAF.

Citizen Action, mentioned above, is not “officially” connected to ACORN. But Citizen Action, like Rathke’s ACORN and Ayers’ radical education projects, was founded by another member of the Alinsky-SDS milieu, Heather Booth. But it’s not just SDS and the City of Chicago that binds this group. As the screen capture below shows, Heather Booth’s husband was both a member of the SDS and Alinski’s [sic] Industrial Areas Foundation.

Of equal significance, Citizen Action reported paying Citizen Services, Inc., the shadowy ACORN group first exposed at No Quarter, over half a million dollars for campaign work. This is the Citizen Services, Inc. who has received nearly a million dollars from the Obama campaign:

(Expenditure reports also show an October 18 payment to Citizen Services (ACORN) of $590,526.10 for “Campaign consulting.” This is not enough information to determine whether this payment was also for signature gathering, which would make the per-signature cost ludicrously high, or for get-out-the-vote activities, or something else.)

According to the Associated Press, the FBI is now investigating allegations of voter fraud committed by ACORN. It should come as no surprise that ACORN is steeped in a culture of corruption, and the manipulative actions of ACORN dovetail perfectly with Alinsky’s Rules. Wade Rathke, founder of ACORN, was forced out the organization after his brother, Dale Rathke, embezzled more than $948,000 from ACORN and Wade Rathke covered it up. His brother was running one of the 294 ACORN groups which Larry Johnson discovered are all linked through the same address:

139. CITIZENS CONSULTING INC.
1024 ELYSIAN FIELDS AVE
NEW ORLEANS, LA 70117-8402 NON-PROFIT FOREIGN CORPORATION Name Type:LEGAL
Indiana Secretary of State

The New York Times reports:

The amount Dale Rathke embezzled, $948,607.50, was carried as a loan on the books of Citizens Consulting Inc., which provides bookkeeping, accounting and other financial management services to Acorn and many of its affiliated entities.

Wade Rathke, prior to Obama’s rapid ascent, was formulating ways to converge the Alinsky Left and take control of the power of the state. This was written in January 2003. He begins his essay with the classic exhortations of a Bolshevik pamphleteer, and his words could not be any clearer:

The oldest cliché of our vast peoples’ movement over the last generation or more has got to be that there are so, so many tasks to be done, that there is a job for everyone – and that means, you, too, brothers and sisters!

~snip~

So, you sit here reading this on the fly between one job and another, home and school, heaven and hell, and you say, “hey, bullshit, no way:” every ad for an “activist” is just looking for a canvasser; all of these groups are just gangs with their own cliques – another secret handshake high school behind a storefront window; and, so, you say, what does it matter what I have to say, what I think, or whatever – I’ll just do my thing, my way, and live my life out of the mainstream

Here’s my plea – let’s build a bridge in the sky that links our worlds together, while allowing us to stay autonomous and anonymous.

First, why, and then, how.

The power of the state is in fact fairly awesome.

Larry Johnson loves hosting this blog, and every one of our writers has enjoyed, so much, getting to know all of you.

Our blog has enjoyed an amazing boost in readership, thanks to all of you.

Along with a major increase in daily reader visits comes the need to add servers so that we can handle the higher levels of traffic. That costs a lot of money that our advertising doesn’t cover. We also pay for programming services, every month, and some months it’s quite expensive. None of us is paid for this effort, by anyone (despite the various false charges made). Considering the hours we put in, we wish we made those big consultant bucks!

We need to ask you to help fund this blog by clicking on the donation button at the top of the right column, just above “Recent Comments.”

With your help, we can keep the blog on the number of servers that are required to keep the blog chugging along. It also helps us, when we get incidents of peak traffic, to add servers on short notice — which is quite expensive, but keeps the blog up so you can access it. (We are already concerned about having to add servers, and pay sysadmin staff, for the last debate and before and on November 4th, Election Day.)

And, just so you know, whatever happens on November 4th will not stop Larry Johnson, me, and to our great gang of writers. We are going to continue to investigate, to question, and to write commentaries. Along with all of you!

If any of you prefer to mail a check via “snail mail,” please e-mail me at susanunpc at gmail dot com — along with the username you post under at No Quarter — and I will send you a “land” address to which you can send a check.

Thank you so very much, all of you!

:::::

P.S. If you order from Amazon, please click on any of our ads first, and then go to Amazon. That way, our blog’s “code” is kept along the way as you look for items and place your orders. We receive a tiny percentage from your purchase. Although it’s not much per order, it does add up.

I forgot myself to do that once — i.e., I ordered something from Amazon but hadn’t first used NoQuarter’s search engine to “capture” the NoQuarter Amazon affiliate code. But, usually, when I order from Amazon — mainly pet food because it’s cheaper and they carry the brands I like — I try to remember to open No Quarter, use the search engine feature in our right column or click on one of the Amazon ads, and then go to the items I want to purchase. The NoQuarterUSA.net affiliate code will be maintained during that “single session” at Amazon. But, each time you return to Amazon, you’ll want to pop into NoQuarter and click on an Amazon ad so that we get that percentage of the purchase. Thank you!

(Image from Audacity of Hypocrisy)

Before ACORN became a household name, Larry Johnson and Eastan McNeal reported that the Obama campaign has been funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars to a shady ACORN shell corporation called Citizens Services, Inc. New information, including the photo above, proves that Obama’s past denials of his relationship with ACORN are not the truth.

According to the Leftist Dissent Magazine, the nebulous term, “community organizing,” has shaped Barack Obama:

Although he didn’t make community organizing a lifetime career—he left Chicago to attend Harvard Law School—Obama often says that his organizing experience has shaped his approach to politics.

~snip~

Since embarking on a political career, Obama hasn’t forgotten the lessons that he learned on the streets of Chicago.

Although Obama claims to never have been associated with ACORN, except when he was retained as their attorney, his community organizing experience is indistinguishable from ACORN’s mission:

In 1985, at age 23, Obama was hired by the Developing Communities Project, a coalition of churches on Chicago’s South Side, to help empower residents to win improved playgrounds, after-school programs, job training, housing, and other concerns affecting a neighborhood hurt by large-scale layoffs from the nearby steel mills and neglect by banks, retail stores, and the local government.

ACORN’s mission is to force governments and businesses, by threat of lawsuits and harassment, to support their agenda of obtaining the maximum services from government, coercing corporations to finance their projects, and forcing banks to approve high-risk loans. Additionally, ACORN works on voter registration issues and is suspected in mass voter fraud. This should be of special concern to the supporters of Hillary Clinton, many of whom witnessed caucus fraud during the primary season.

Stanley Kurtz details that ACORN may be at fault for much of the housing crisis we are now experiencing. Kurtz writes:

While the 1977 Community Reinvestment Act did call on banks to increase lending in poor and minority neighborhoods, its exact requirements were vague, and therefore open to a good deal of regulatory interpretation. Banks merger or expansion plans were rarely held up under CRA until the late 1980s, when ACORN perfected its technique of filing CRA complaints in tandem with the sort of intimidation tactics perfected by that original “community organizer” (and Obama idol), Saul Alinsky.

Kurtz states that Obama, in his position on the board of the Woods Fund and the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC) — both with domestic terrorist and Obama benefactor Bill Ayers — funneled large sums of money to ACORN:

as a director at Chicago’s Woods Fund, Obama was successfully pushing for a major expansion of assistance to Acorn, and sending still more money Acorn’s way from his post as board chair of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. Through both funding and personal-leadership training, Obama supported Acorn. And Acorn, far more than we’ve recognized up to now, had a major role in precipitating the subprime crisis.

It’s become apparent that ACORN is serving as Obama’s red-shirted shock troops for voter “outreach,” a euphemism for the mass voter registration fraud witnessed up to this point in the election. ACORN will do for voting integrity what they did for mortgage lending.

According to Obama’s “Fight the Smears” Web Site, he was never an organizer for ACORN:

Regardless of what the Web site says, Obama’s ties to ACORN go much further than simply writing the group large checks from CAC in his role as Bill Ayers’ toady. Although “Fight the Smears” says that Obama was not an organizer for ACORN, he was an attorney for an ACORN’s voter registration project.

However, in May of this year, Stanley Kurtz discovered that Obama and ACORN have a much closer connection:

While most press accounts imply that Obama just happened to be at the sort of public-interest law firm that would take Acorn’s “motor voter” case, Foulkes claims that Acorn specifically sought out Obama’s representation in the motor voter case, remembering Obama from the days when he worked with Talbot. And while many reports speak of Obama’s post-law school role organizing “Project VOTE” in 1992, Foulkes makes it clear that this project was undertaken in direct partnership with Acorn. Foulkes then stresses Obama’s yearly service as a key figure in Acorn’s leadership-training seminars.

Further, John Fund of the Wall Street Journal, elaborates that Obama was an attorney for ACORN, trained ACORN activists, and dispensed funds to ACORN:

In 1995, then GOP Gov. Jim Edgar refused to implement the federal “Motor Voter” law. Allowing voters to register using only a postcard and blocking the state from culling voter rolls, he argued, could invite fraud. Mr. Obama sued on behalf of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, and won. Acorn later invited Mr. Obama to help train its staff; Mr. Obama would also sit on the board of the Woods Fund for Chicago, which frequently gave this group grants.

Kurtz lays the collapse of the mortgage giants squarely at the feet of ACORN:

Up to now, conventional wisdom on the financial meltdown has relegated ACORN and the CRA to bit parts. The real problem, we’ve been told, lay with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. In fact, however, ACORN is at the base of the whole mess. ACORN used CRA and Democratic sympathizers to entangle Fannie and Freddie and the entire financial system in a disastrous disregard of the most basic financial standards. And Barack Obama cut his teeth as an organizer and politician backing up ACORN’s economic madness every step of the way.

In a prescient article from 1998, entitled Capitalist Wealth Underwrites Assaults on Middle America’s Values, Robert Holland reports that ACORN received funding from Fannie Mae and other banks and that ACORN then pressured the federal government to force banks to make high-risk loans:

Corporate leaders may be dispensing this aid in the belief it will curry favor with radical groups, or they may calculate that regulation will favor their business’ interests over competitors. Some of the giving, however, just seems spectacularly misguided: For example, Bank America, Chase Manhattan, and Fannie Mae contributed $315,000 to ACORN (the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now), an outfit that threatens financial institutions with federal sanctions if they fail to issue high-risk loans at bargain rates to borrowers of ACORN’s choosing.

Matthew Weaver originally uncovered this photograph of Obama and The Rev. Michael L. Pfleger protesting payday loans in January 2000.

The caption from NBC 5 photograph does not detail who sponsored the protest. It’s striking, however, that one of ACORN’s primary missions is protesting payday loans. And the yellow signs are ubiquitous in nearly all photographs of ACORN from this period:

The caption reads: “ACORN members demand fair lending, not predatory lending! This march was part of ACORN’s National Convention in Philadelphia, Summer 2000.”

The protest in Chicago attended by Obama and The Rev. Pfleger was likely an ACORN-related event, and significant enough for Pfleger to list the protest on his Curriculum Vitae:

What’s interesting about Pfleger’s CV, in addition to the prominence placed on the lending protest, are the other two actions. In a period of one month, Pfleger was actively attempting to ban Indian bidis cigarettes (with Obama) and coordinating efforts with Rev. Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam.

But Obama’s ties with Pfleger did not end with fighting payday loans and exotic cigarettes, Pfleger is close to Farrakhan and Obama attended Farrakhan’s Million Man March:

Obama was apparently at Farrakhan’s Million Man March, although his precise attitude toward the march is in dispute

Regardless of Obama’s proximity to Farrakhan, he continues to embrace the resurgent far-Left.

Dissent reports that Obama employs Marshall Ganz of Harvard to lead “Camp Obama,” a Saul Alinsky-inspired, ACORN-like retreat for the training of Obama organizers:

Obama enlisted Marshall Ganz, a Harvard professor who is one of the country’s leading organizing theorists and practitioners, to help train organizers and volunteers as a key component of his presidential campaign. Ganz was instrumental in shaping the volunteer training experience.

Many Obama campaign volunteers went through several days of intense training sessions called “Camp Obama.” The sessions were led by Ganz and other experienced organizers

Ganz is a respected organizer and academic with long-term associations with ACORN. He was also a member of the Howard Dean campaign.

In an article last year on Talking Points Memo, Ganz notes that recent elections have been remarkably close and that organizing will decide this year’s election. Using Alinsky as his model, he proposes a grass-roots campaign to win in 2008.

Barack Obama, a man we know little truth about, was forced onto the Democratic Party by far-Left activists and obsequious Party elders. ACORN is engaged in fraudulent voter registration on behalf of Obama, and the leader of “Camp Obama” tells us clearly that this election will be about organizing. Obama’s close relationship with ACORN, as documented by Kurtz,

a bit of digging into Obama’s years in the Illinois State Senate indicates strong concern with Acorn’s signature issues, as well as meetings with Acorn and the introduction by Obama of Acorn-friendly legislation on the living wage and banking practices. You begin to wonder whether, in his Springfield days, Obama might have best been characterized as “the Senator from Acorn.”

This is a frightening thought when you consider that ACORN is much to blame for the housing crisis we’re now experiencing. And it’s not surprising that the Obama campaign’s strong-arm tactics, inspired by Alinsky and perfected by ACORN, have made the Democratic Party foreign to so many of its loyal base.
