Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter and Pennslvania governor Ed Rendell spoke before Barack Obama, and said, Lynn Sweet reports:

“I gave Sen. Clinton $1,500 in the primary so I thought just for old-time sake I’d give Sen. Obama $1,499,” Rendell said, sparking scattered boos from the crowd. The governor calmed them by saying “that was before I drank the Kool-Aide.” He said that he has a check for $2,300 to give the Obama campaign.

Sweet then reports that this is what Barack Obama said immediately afterwards:

“We’re going to make sure this doesn’t bounce,” Obama said as he took the podium.

This is such a rude, classless remark, I am nearly left speechless. (more…)

I was reading an article this morning about how one of Obama’s advisors had to resign because of his connections to Hamas. Pretty serious stuff, wouldn’t you think? I mean, considering his other Middle Eastern affiliations of dubious intent and criminal status, you would think that an Obama supporter would at least be somewhat alarmed. Nope. Here was an Obama supporter’s comment:

All I have to say is keep crying like broads on a rag. You all lost face it…Cowards…..

Let’s assume Hillary wins tomorrow in Pennsylvania. Regardless of her margin of victory, superdelegates are still tasked with picking the Democratic nominee. A post by Jeralyn on TalkLeft argues convincingly that Obama would face almost insurmountable odds against McCain. Jeralyn uses William Arnone’s analysis of the electoral landscape. Jeralyn says:

First, we need to figure out which of the 20 states are vulnerable to McCain and decide whether Hillary or Obama has a better chance of carrying them. Mr. Arnone says those states are: Pennsylvania, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Oregon and Wisconsin, which have a total of 68 electoral votes.

As I’ve written before, Kerry won Pennsylvania by only 2% in 2004. Obama’s inability to carry large states besides his home state does not bode well for his candidacy.

Hillary didn’t set the tone of that debate by determining the questions - the moderators did.  To claim that she “went on the attack” is just complete and utter bullshit and it’s time someone pointed that out. She had no more control over the tone of that debate than he did.  The only thing they could control as candidates and participants is how well things turned out for each of them by the answers they gave.

There’s a reason people say Hillary won the debate - she handled the tough questions better than he did.  There was one question in particular that was designed to elicit one of Russert’s signature gotcha moments from Hillary, and she answered it the only way she could.

Now folks have been declaring Hillary dead in the water since the Iowa results rolled in and she’s proved them wrong time and time again.  New Hampshire, Nevada, Super Tuesday states and then Ohio and Texas - all of the millions of voters in those states told us this thing’s not even close to being over.

And then comes Joe Klein…

ABC IS MEAN!

Well, yeah.  ABC was mean to Obama.  They treated him like, dare I say it, the frontrunner.  They treated him like they are going to treat him every day from now until November.  You saw him, FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, get the same sort of treatment Clinton has been getting from day one, and your feelings are hurt.  Why?  Because it’s not fair?  Hell no.  Not a darned one of you cared a whit about “fair” when the shoe was on the other foot.  No.  You’re offended because you thought, for what reason I can not even imagine, that the media would continue to give Obama the same ride they always give McCain.  And under it all, in the backs of your heads, you are finally acknowledging the echoes of what Clinton supporters have told you all along - that the media would turn on Obama once Clinton was out of the way, and the free ride would be over.

I cannot recall hearing such whining in my life from the mouth of a major candidate. This man is incapable of withstanding criticism or handling difficult questions. He is not only defensive and inept in his excuses, but he is also petulant — and then he delivers “below the belt” attacks on Hillary Clinton, while condemning such tactics. Which is it, Barack? Are you for or against attack tactics? Or does it only work one way? And is that because YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH, mister (to quote Jack Nicholson, a Hillary Clinton supporter).

See, this is the problem I’ve always had with Barack Obama compared to Hillary Clinton or John Edwards. Obama is not a “buck stops here” kind of leader (whereas Clinton and Edwards clearly are). Obama can’t take the heat, and he can’t take the jabs. He wimps out and then he whines. It was plain, last night in the Philadelphia debate, that he can’t take the pressure of bruising questions. And it’s even worse in his rally speech here today, where he tries to pin the blame on everyone, from the debate moderators to Hillary, rather than on his own pathetic performance last night.

Further — as you’ll see below in a short clip, just below this longer video — he flipped off Hillary in a “street” sort of way. But it is undeniable — I have asked several people to confirm — that he indeed did give Hillary the finger, and it’s clear from the audience reaction that he did so.
