After chuckling while reading the NY Times piece, Sarah Palin Electrifies Party, I surfed The Regressive Party’s posts this morning about Sarah’s speech last night at the Republican Convention. What I saw everywhere was a gaggle of shocked and flustered people who are now officially trapped in their own irony.

Having become the fascist thugs they claimed to despise for 8 years, they are now officially reaping what they have sown throughout the primary season, when Hillary was trashed at every turn, the Race Card was played daily, and the party Far Left Fascists laughed gleefully while leaving us to watch in horror.

Not only did they horrify us, but they returned as often as possible to us to shove hot pokers at us.

Now we are laughing gleefully as the Republicans turn on the fan and slop the Obama camps’ own shit right back in their faces. (more…)

Waking up this morning it is impossible to miss that the game has changed—Obama’s 15-minutes are over and the media has to have a hangover from its violent frenzy during the past week.

First, anyone who watched Governor Sarah Palin last night had to come away with at least crudging support, if not enthusiasm. Or, if an Obama supporter, a wake-up call that may have even filtered through their Kool-Aid-induced fog.

Second, and of more immediate importance, the media, if they have any decency and self-respect, have to be shocked at their behavior during the past week.

It is an understatement to say they need to apologize, but, regardless of whether they have the integrity to apologize, they do need to reflect on what they have done. (more…)

These past eight years, every time I saw George Bush on television or heard one of his idiotic sound bytes, I felt the bile rise in my throat. What horrid nonsense is this snake oil salesman spewing now? What other inanity can spring forth to pretend the economy is fine or that we can say “Mission Accomplished” about Iraq? And if he says the word ‘nuke-u-lar’ one more time, I will scream!!

At the start of 2008, I felt buoyed by a sense of hope. I took out the “Bush” countdown calendar someone had given my husband and actually started leafing through it. This was challenging in itself, because, unlike some stand-ups who use Bush-isms to provide endless fodder for their comic diatribes, I could not laugh. What he and his cabal have done to this country is too sad to be funny.

I was elated in January. Change is on the way. Hope is on the way. But hope for change did not come in the package of Mr. Hopey-Changey, Senator Obama, because it took me about ten seconds to figure out he was another snake oil salesman just like George Bush.

Hope for change was my Joan of Arc in a pantsuit, Senator Hillary Clinton. (more…)

Like many of us are not still reeling from the HORRIBLE treatment of Senator Clinton. Yep. Just yesterday, Daily Kos and “journalists” went after Palin primarily because she is a woman, plain and simple. Check out this video(H/T to Roseeriter for a link to Alegre’s Corner which had this video):

Well, golly gee - at least Mike Barnacle is trying to PRETEND like he didn’t say completely assholic things about Senator Clinton when she was running. But, hey, Mike - there’s this little thing called VIDEO!!! If someone actually DOES go back after the past 20 yrs, Mike, you’ll be in there, too. GeekLove caught what you, and others of your ilk, said in this video, which really, says it all. (more…)

This morning, former Mike Dukakis Campaign Manager Susan Estrich says she surfed the blogs and what she found written about Sarah Palin is horrific and totally inappropriate.

Referring to the fact that the sexism in America is overt, she had this to say:

Estrich was asked: “Realistically speaking” How many of Hillary Clinton’s voters are in play for John McCain. Her answer: …..”about a third….30 % I would say”.

What they’re doing to her………..and I mean friends of yours and mine….what they’re saying, second guessing her prenatal care……..with her youngest child….. even going so far as to suggest she took unnecessary risks………..maybe she was even responsible for the Down’s Syndrome………this whole business of saying maybe she was covering up for her teenage daughter’s pregnancy….they are dumping all over the daughter…..I find it Really offensive….and I think a lot of women in particular….who ended up supporting Hillary because they were so offended by the sexism may well be offended by what they see as the piling on of Sarah Palin.

You can see the video here.

Overall, I would say Ms. Estrich is darned close. (more…)

Do people have any idea how exhausting it is to have to defend women from the constant torrent of sexism and misogyny? But no matter how exhausting, it is our principles as progressives which are under assault. We have to defend women, even in 2008. McEwan makes the point clearly:

I cannot walk away from misogyny for a moment, and so I cannot for a moment walk away from feminism, either. I cannot set it aside any more than I can set aside my womanhood. No — I will not. The choice is mine, and I choose to face the world equipped at all times with the only tool of self-defense I have against inequality. Feminism is my sword and my shield, which I carry because the world is hostile to me, not the other way around.

It’s painful to write about the sexism and misogyny that poisons the very air we breathe.

When Olbermann, Matthews, Shuster, Dowd, Sullivan and the many other excretory organs of the media wagged their nasty tongues about Hillary, we learned that the networks and publishing houses believed that attacks on women were fair game, indeed good business.

And that was BEFORE John McCain selected Sarah Palin to be his VP. Since then, the Bots, the Bloggers and the Fauxgressives have gone totally batshit crazy, making the most heinous accusations and despicable comments one can imagine. (more…)

Millions of people probably agreed (albeit in silence) that someone who served less than a year in the U.S. Senate and has some ‘splainin’ to do about his long-term cronies and anti-white spiritual leaders was an unlikely contender as leader of the free world. (more…)

In 1993, feminist alt-rocker Liz Phair released Exile in Guyville, a song-to-song response to The Rolling Stones’ superb Exile on Main Street.

I’ve been thinking about Liz Phair’s response to the rockin’ but boorish Rolling Stones after reading Jacob Weisberg’s If Obama Loses: Racism is the Only Reason McCain Might Beat Him in Slate. Unlike Phair, I won’t attempt a point-by-point rebuttal; Weisberg’s piece is so riddled with distortions and hyperbole that a laundry list argument cannot summarize my feelings.

Weisberg’s article is so bad on so many levels that it’s amazing it was published at all, but it does fit with the media’s love affair with Obama. It’s a deceptive piece of writing and it relies on faulty logic, which I show below. But of course that is not an accident. A strident media partisan like Weisberg cannot rely on facts. So let’s start from the beginning:

It’s challenging to create a cartoon where the main character in simply a bright line. But please bear with me:

“Clinton supporters are spoilers and not supporting Obama just because she didn’t win” is a statement I hear a lot, and I am damn sick and tired of it. Yes, we supported Hillary, and we are very disappointed that things went as they did. And yes, we are angry. Very angry.

But for most of us a bright line clearly demarcates the two sets of feelings. It’s no longer about Hillary. She has moved on and is doing what she needs to do. That’s her business and her right, and we wish her all the best. She is a great and gracious soldier for her party.

So why are we so angry?

We are angry because misogyny raged in the media like the California wild fires I could see from my porch, and the DNC and Obama campaign just let it burn. Only after damage was done did Howard Dean weakly acknowledge that the media was sexist. In the meantime, the Clintons, who have been working for civil rights since they were kids, were derided as racist. Silence from the DNC to this day on that one. Many of us (men and women) will be putting considerable focus on this matter as we move on after November.

We are angry because the DNC has acted in biased and manipulative ways that puts mega-doubt on the appropriateness of the term “Democratic” in the party name. Florida and Michigan are given full rights, but wait…it no longer matters. Caucus fraud was ignored, and for many the totally undemocratic nature of caucuses became clear for the first time. “One man [sic] one vote,” my ass.

Many of us feel that our party has left us. And after being loyal Democrats for many years, this makes us angry.

Again, this isn’t about Hillary. So, if things don’t turn out so well for Obama and the DNC in November, all they have to do is look in the mirror for the answer as to why.
