Barack Obama: On My Faith, My Church, My Lies

“Committed Christian” Barack Obama claims he never heard controversial remarks while attending the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, Illinois, in his essay entitled “On My Faith and My Church” on 14 March 2008 at The Huffington Post.  I quote:

The statements that Rev. Wright made that are the cause of this controversy were not statements I personally heard him preach while I sat in the pews of Trinity or heard him utter in private conversation. When these statements first came to my attention, it was at the beginning of my presidential campaign. I made it clear at the time that I strongly condemned his comments. But because Rev. Wright was on the verge of retirement, and because of my strong links to the Trinity faith community, where I married my wife and where my daughters were baptized, I did not think it appropriate to leave the church.

But according to one source, Obama did in fact witness Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s espousal of divisive and racially charged rhetoric at Trinity United Church of Christ on 22 July 2007, 5 months after he announced his intention to run for the Presidency of the United States.  I quote:

Presidential candidate Barack Obama preaches on the campaign trail that America needs a new consensus based on faith and bipartisanship, yet he continues to attend a controversial Chicago church whose pastor routinely refers to “white arrogance” and “the United States of White America.”

In fact, Obama was in attendance at the church when these statements were made on July 22.

Was Obama standing and not sitting when Reverend Jeremiah Wright discussed “white arrogance” and “the United States of White America” on 22 July 2007, or is the mendacious Obama not the “committed Christian” he claims to be?

So Obama decides Wright is wrong. All the quasi-religious adoration of Obama, Michelle’s lack of pride in her country, the innuendo about Islam: the Obama campaign is just bizarre. Thanks heavens that Hillary is still in this.

I wasn’t there those days when he preached, so I didn’t hear it.

I pressed the wrong voting button.

I didn’t think Rezko would want any favors in return.

This is called lying.

Good God, I hope he’s lying. Because if he’s not lying, then he is either stupid or delusional… and I don’t know if this country can stand another 4 years of a stupid, delusional president.

Consider this, also. Look at the power GW Bush has concentrated in the Executive. Do think Obama and the Democratic Elites are going to release that hold? Imagine Jeremiah Wright as Obama’s Dick Cheney.

Comment by SandyS | 2008-03-15 12:31:26

My god, PMS. Is this possibly why the DNC is so against Clinton? Because they don’t want to give up the executive privilege that Bush has amassed? If so, our democracy is in much graver danger than I thought. Oh dear.

Comment by PMS | 2008-03-15 12:45:11

Power corrupts. No one is immune. No one gives back power when they attain it.

Like I said, do you want Jeremiah Wright on the inside as Obama’s Dick Cheney?

It would take a fool of highest order to believe that Obama or any future president would renounce the powers that Bush worked so hard to acquire. Think signing statements will disappear just because Bush leaves office? There seem to be so many naive people on the web touting Obama it makes me wonder what is wrong with the people of the USA. Apparently when it comes to politics people just check their common sense at the door or something.

Don’t forget - he voted against the cap on credit card interest because the cap was too high. One of my favorite moments in the campaign is Clinton leaning against her podium looking at him like he was out of his mind.

Don’t forget the clip of Edwards expression… laughing/exasperated. He responded with soft ridicule. I always thought the Reps would use it against Obama.

How do you buy that rationalization?

Obama can reject Wright’s statements all he wants. The fact remains he was a member for 20 years and contributed $20,000 per year to sustain the message.

This is like the Saudi kingdom sustaining the Wahabi religion with money and saying they do not subscribe to the theory.

Comment by Nellie | 2008-03-15 11:13:25

Great Analogy!

Comment by blueasthesky | 2008-03-15 11:18:58

Mr. Obama is also quite vague about which statements he’s heard. He says “The statements that Rev. Wright made that are the cause of this controversy were not statements I personally heard him preach while I sat in the pews of Trinity or heard him utter in private conversation.” So maybe he means he didn’t hear THOSE particular statements that they showed on TV. He’s not saying he didn’t hear any other statements that were similar. So maybe he heard the July 22 sermon decrying the United States of White America, but he doesn’t consider that sermon to be the “cause of the controversy.”

Comment by myiq2xu | 2008-03-15 11:20:39

Obama is between a rock and a hard place on this one. He has publically professed his faith and his membership in his church, and used it to defend against the “stealth Mulim” rumors.

Now he’s gonna have a hard time running away from the church.

Fair or unfair, this controversy is gonna leave a mark.

I though some of you over here at NO QUARTER might like to read something I just posted on Truth Dig and a letter I sent to the editors of the same blog. I know I will get at least two dozen hate responses to my post. I always do. But I have never gone so far as I did in this one. I can’t wait for the fun to begin. :)

I posted this in a story with video of KO’s shameless Special Comment on Clinton and Ferraro.

WHERE IS THE ARTICLE/HEADLINE ON REV. WRIGHT’S RESIGNATION WITH ACCOMPANYING VIDEO?????????????

Below is a letter I just sent to Truth Dig regarding the blog’s ignoring of a major story and controversy about Barak Obama’s campaign.

Plus I just did some research of other major blogs and SURPRISE !!!!! SURPRISE !!!! No headlines, and few mentions of this scandal.

HiffPo’s headline is about the rise in gas and groceries. About half way down the front page is Obama’s comments about his church.

Salon’s lead article is on global warming. However it still has at the top of its secondary headlines an article that says Ferraro needs to apologize.

Slates headline is an article on Israel and about one-third of the way down on the left hand side in Blogs is a title, “The First Rule of Obama,” which does have a section on Wright. But no headline.

Of course, as mentioned earlier there is NOTHING here at Truth Dig. I guess their philosophy is we only dig for truth if it is negative about Hillary and puts down women.

Over at Politico the headline is Obama’s admission (FINALLY) that Rezko’s role has been bigger than previously admitted. And in the seconadary headlines there is a story about Wright.

News Hounds does report that FOX covered the story.

If it isn’t apparent by now that the media is biased against Hillary’s campaign and all ga-ga about Obama’s it should be by now. And anyone who denies this is just living in denial.

MY LETTER To TRUTH DIG
Dear Sir/Madam:

I was shocked to see that Truth Dig did not have a blaring headline story this morning on Obama’s spiritual advisor’s resignation last night.

If this had been a Hillary story I am sure there would have been a blast on the Hillary campaign. You all would have burned the midnight oil to make sure your adoring Hillary hating and hate spewing attack dogs had new fodder to write more venom on Hillary today.

Why is this? The old Bamboozling and hoodwinking? Or is it just the good old double standard and standard operating procedure for the misogynist sexist attitude that appears to be so rampant at Truth Dig?

Greg Mitchell wrote a diary on exactly this type of scenario happening over at dkos last nite after Senator Obama appeared on KO’s show and made his comments about not hearing these words in the pew. Yes and true to form, Mr. Mitchell was ridiculed and called a concern troll and pooh poohed by the Obama supporters who were “yawning” and bored by howls of outrage over the umpteenth diary in a row about this controversy. Yes,because we all know that sticking their head in the sand an saying it is all better is the way to go in light of the conservative friendly framing msm that exists in our country and has been an effective swiftboater in the past.

Now personally I don’t care if Obama was in the pew or not, or if he fell asleep during the sermon and didn’t hear it. I mean he already admits he certainly was aware of the controversial type commentary from Reverend WRight before he ran for president. Having said that, he really boxed himself in with his ridiculous parsing and it came back to bite him in the arse. Seriously when will these people ever learn. He’s not going to be ready for primetime in the general (should he become the nominee) if he can’t even handle this without the hedging… And his hedging ways are what concerned me about him from the get go. He really is green.

Comment by AF | 2008-03-15 12:03:02

These clips are from the church’s website are they not? From videos of sermons for sale on the church’s website?

You would think he’d ask the pastor to take those links down while he runs for president.

There is no way Obama can dance around this one. He is done.

If only his supporters would stop pretending this is all Hillary’s fault and be realistic about 2008. There is no way Obama can beat McCain now (not that, IMHO, he ever could, except if he were on a combined ticket with Hillary).

I am sure that the Clintons have known about this bombshell since the beginning. Despite the hysterical accusations of the Obamans, they never used a lot of Obama’s obvious weaknesses against him. They didn’t bring up Reszko until he attacked her for being on the board of Wal-Mart. They NEVER brought up Wright. They didn’t jump all over Michelle when she said black people will “wake up and get it.” They didn’t hit back hard when Obama smeared them as racists time and again.

I say again, Obama should have taken Hillary’s combined ticket offer when he could. She made it clear she would even accept VP. But Obama was too full of arrogance and ambition to take her at her word. Now, he is completely screwed.

I predict he is out of the race before Pennsylvania.

Everybody who bothered to read about Obama at all…his books, his record though that’s been hard to find, or any number of other sources have known about this bombshell.

It has all been in plain view from the moment he announced for President and changed his mind about
using Wright the night before. This is not new.

What is new is the beginning…and note I said BEGINNING…of talking about it in the MSM.

Comment by bert | 2008-03-15 13:22:47

You are right. The press knew about Wright early on. Several journalists tried to get the story out there but the MSM did not engage in true INVESTIGATIVE journalism. They dismissed the stories as being negative hit pieces from Hillary’s campaign directly or her surrogates or her supporters.

Obama is DOA in the general election because of Wright IMO. The GOP will have the electorate scared shitless of a Obama presidency thanks to Wrights ravings.

However I don’t think he will drop out, he’s too ambitious and arrogant to do so.

The only way I see this not ending up as a ugly battle at the Democratic convention is for Hillary to win big in Penn. Then do well in Michigan and FLorida if the idiotic DNC allows a do-over of some sort.

And no I don’t believe that delegates from both states should be equally apportioned as some party bosses want. Given the information that has come out on Obama in the last couple of weeks, the voters of both states deserve to have a say.

quote from The New Yorker Magazine
The Other Obama
Michelle Obama and the politics of candor.
by Lauren Collins
March 10, 2008
snip:

Michelle Obama: “I want to rip his [Bill Clinton's] eyes out!”
From the latest New Yorker–a profile on Michelle Obama.

“I want to rip his eyes out!” she said, clawing at the air with her fingernails. One of her advisers gave her a nervous look. “Kidding!” Obama said. “See, this is what gets me into trouble.”

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I just want to know where Keith Olberman and Jack Cafferty, Wolf Blitzer, Chris Matthews are in reporting this?

Michelle is talking about the former president of the United States.

She is talking about the former head of the Democratic party.

She is talking about a man many of us in this country thought was possibly the best president in our lifetimes!

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

the article goes on…for people now putting space between them and their pastor…this was What Michelle Obama was saying to church goer’s in South Carolina..from the same article..

snip:

Earlier on the day that Obama visited the nursery school, she addressed a congregation at the Pee Dee Union Baptist Church, in Cheraw, a hamlet of about six thousand known as “The Prettiest Town in Dixie.” The church’s makeshift gravel parking lot, next to the Pee Dee Ice and Fuel Company and bounded by train tracks, was full. After an invocation by the Reverend Jerry Corbett and an introduction by the mayor of Cheraw, Obama came to the pulpit. “You all got up bright and early just for me?” she asked the mostly elderly, almost all-black crowd. “Yes!” they roared. Obama continued, “On behalf of my church home and my pastor, Reverend Wright, I bring greetings.”

Comment by Pedro | 2008-03-15 13:18:30

Hillary and Bill Clinton have made a significant issue about how the press is treating Hillary unfairly in their hyper-critical reporting on her and their “softball” reporting on Barack Obama. Hillary maintains she has been fully investigated by the media and Barak hasn’t!

As the Tony Rezko trial begins in Chicago, Clinton and her surrogates are linking Obama to Rezko and the media is speculating about whether Obama will be called to testify as a witness in the case. Obama has always admitted he received $85,000 in contributions from Rezko which Obama has now donated to charity rather than keep.

Yet the civil fraud trial of Bill Clinton for defrauduing Hillary’s largest donor in 2000 into giving her campaign more than $1.2 million, pending in Los Angeles courts since 2003, is now preparing for a November, 2008 trial. The discovery that is now proceeding after a February 21 hearing, and the pending trial, have NEVER been announced by the mainstream media.

Hillary was able to extricate herself as a co-defendant in the case in January, 2008 after years of appeals to be protected by the First Amendment from tort claims arising out of federal campaign solicitations she made. Her abuse of the intent of California’s anti-SLAPP law after the California Supreme Court refused to dismiss her from the case in 2004 is emblematic of her contempt for the Rule of Law.

Hillary will be called as a witness in both discovery and the trial according to the trial court Judge who so-advised Hillary’s attorney David Kendall when he dismissed Hillary as a co-defendant in 2007. A subpoena is being prepared this month and will be served personally on Hillary, along with Chelsea, Pa Gov. Ed Rendell, Al Gore and other well known political and media figures.

Yet the media has refused to report about this landmark civil fraud case- brought by Hillary’s biggest 2000 donor to her Senate race, regarding allegations that were corroborated by the Department of Justice in the criminal trial of Hillary’s finance director David Rosen in May, 2005. That indictment and trial was credited as resulting from the civil suit’s allegations by Peter Paul, the Hollywood dot com millionaire Bill Clinton convinced to donate more than $1.2 million (according to the DOJ prosecutors and the FBI) to Hillary’s Senate campaign as part of a post White House business deal with Bill.

The media - except for World Net Daily- has also suspiciously refused to report on Hillary’s last FEC report regarding her 2000 Senate campaign, filed in January 30, 2006. In a secret settlement of an FEC complaint by the plaintiff in Paul v Clinton, Peter Paul, the FEC fined Hillary’s campaign $35,000 for hiding more than $720,000 in donations from Paul, and it required Hillary’s campaign to file a 4th amended FEC report.

In that report Hillary and her campaign again hid Paul’s $1.2 million contribution to her campaign and falsely attributed $250,000 as being donated by Paul’s partner, Spider Man creator Stan Lee, who swore in a video taped deposition he never gave Hillary or her campaign any money.

Lee did testify to trading $100,000 checks with Paul to make it appear he gave $100,000 to Hillary’s campaign (admission of a felony) but none of that has been reported by the “overly critical” media!

Where is the outrage from Obama that the press is engaging in a double standard relating to his possible role in the Rezko trial and his refunding the $85,000 contributed to his campaign by Rezko- which Obama has always admitted taking. The media makes no mention of Hillary’s role as a witness in Bill’s fraud trial for defrauding Hillary’s largest donor- and Hillary’s refusal to refund the $1.2 million she illegally received from Paul, which she has denied taking from Paul ever since the Washington Post asked her about Paul and his felony convictions from the 1970’s before her first Senate election in 2000?

Let the truth be told, see the video of Hillary commiting crimes at http://www.hillcap.org

And to those that like to get brainwashed by the media, like CNN (Clinton News Network) lets be real. We know churches are not 20 years talking about the same thing, the media gathered up those few clips. Do I think the pastor is a bit racist, there’s no doubt about it. But to link Obama with the Pastor, No. First of all, people are forgetting (Maybe because of his color) that OBAMA is WHITE and BLACK! As much as people want to make Obama un-American…. he is not. Youtube videos showing him not Pledge to the flag? First of all he and the audience were the only smart people that knew the national anthem is not the pledge of allegiance, plus was the only one singing it when Clinton and the others didn’t even know the song. I friend of mines I knew for 23 years murdered two people, I hate him for doing such stupidity, but he was part of the family, and I see him like twice every year. But that doesn’t make me a murderer. It didn’t make my wife switch her mind on being with me, that because I’m my own person. People should pay attention to what Obama says and not his pastor, so as much as you want to make it look like Obama is un-American. That is such a Clinton!!! in other words such a LIE! I mean just look at her latest lie about her experience with Children health care, BUSTED!!! The Clinton were forced by the real people in SCHIP and they weren’t ready, and now they are taking all the credit that they created it.

And Wright’s venomous sermons are available for purchase and people have certainly been talking and writing about them for years, so just like when he lets his constituents freeze, the piece of shit that is Barack Obama lies to get his - mansion, job, cash.

Do you really think that running a blog that resembles M Malkin’s McCarthyite tactics will get Hillary into the White House. Please name a single thing Obama has said or done personally (other than guilt by association) that warrants your smears of him.

I’m a dem that supported any one of the 3 top dems for president. Not any more. The Clinton’s have proven recently that much of what wingnuts have said about them is true. And her supporters are no better.

Even if she gets the nomination by helping to make Obama unelectable, people like me (and there are millions of us) will sit out the election. But you say, Hillary is better than McCain. And I say no she isn’t, at least when it comes to personal integrity.

Comment by thinkagain | 2008-03-16 17:00:57

Obama said he was not sitting in the pews when his Pastor, friend and mentor of twenty years was spewing his racist and anti American hate speech. That’s because Obama may have been standing up and cheering like all the rest of Rev. Wright’s congregation when Wright was spouting his hate. If you read most of what Obama says in an attempt to deny any knowledge of his Pastor’s hate speech it sounds like Clinton when he tried to wiggle out of the Monica affair when he said “It depends on what the definition of is is.” Further, if Obama belonged to the GOP and was a member of a church whose Pastor spouted a lot of racist sermons over a twenty year period, the media would be demanding his resignation from office and it would be front news all over. The fact the media is trying to downplay this, ie. the LA Times did not even mention the controversy in their Sunday edition, shows you how in the tank the media is for Obama.
